Also, not to be a bummer, but didn't realize, that, yeah, these festival shows are different being outside:

"Firing up the whole Pearl Jam organization for just two shows can’t be easy. Are there plans for any other touring this year?

I don’t think there’s any way we’re going into arenas before the end of the year. I think we’ll wait to see how everything shakes out."

God I loved that team. Those clowns, the 89-90 Sixers, and the late 80's early 90's Eagles Forever!

Combined all of those teams won like 10 playoff games. Still love them. lol
Could you imagine Cunningham in today’s NFL? He was born 30 years too early.

While I have been thinking they’d do more than they currently have on the schedule, I have thought indoors was probably a stretch.

then there’s whore bag foo fighters and a MSG show in a week

Yeah loved all those teams but gimme the 86-87 Flyers with their incredulous 26 game playoff run full of minor league call-ups and a crazy rookie goalie who almost took down the greatest dynasty in sports history.

I would go Process, Barkley, and then AI eras. They are all real close though.

The AI era was a ton of fun but they only had that one run and I never felt they had a legit chance to win it all with the way the team was constructed.

I also never thought those Barkley teams had a legit chance, but I just absolutely loved that smash mouth version of basketball they played. Probably some 12 year old Juggler bias built in here too, I guess.

This year's team would crush both of those teams though. I also feel more invested in this one just because I believed in the Process and to see the fruits of it's labor play out is pretty awesome.

A little nervous about tonight though. Seems like a Hawks line...

Nah.  I was a player fan and Barkley was my dude.  He retired from Rockets a few years before that and I can't recall who I was going for at that point.  The last time I fell for a team was that Sixers group.  Followed Chuck out the door, though.

They said the Phillies are the only team in the majors with an all-time winning record vs. the Yankees. I wish the winning record was in the post-season instead.

Long day yesterday, good times. Our 20-month-old Covid Kid got to see his first game at the ballpark, though not gonna lie - at the same time it did feel a bit overwhelming when we first walked the concourse through a sea of people.

That is great, glad you got to go and enjoy that.
Was talking with our nearly 7 year old yesterday about his first game.  It was meant to be last year -- and given our situation I don't think it will be this year.  I look forward to next year.  Until then we can watch on the tube, some.
He has a tough time sitting through baseball on TV for long but he wants to learn more about the rules and the best way (I think) is to be at a game and talk through what/why/positioning/etc.
He had no interest in going/being around all of those people a few years ago but I think he is ready to go, now.  Sports are not his thing but I 100% want to encourage any and all sports interest.   [NASCAR, the kid loves NASCAR, which neither of us watched prior to his interest.]

Went to our local seafood shop to get some crabs and clams to make for dinner on Saturday and only saw one other person with a mask.
Gloves are off in South Jersey.
What is it like in Philly?
At the game, were some still wearing masks?

Yeah, best way is definitely either to take in the game while at the ballpark or playing it. We took my wife's Irish family to a game back in 2019. I tried explaining to her cousin the rules and everything as we went. As best I could he still looked at me like I had seven heads.

Yeah, for the most part people aren't wearing masks outside. But when it comes to protocol in stores it's now up to the business owner's discretion, which is still the case in some places. In either case, I still wear a mask inside for the most part. Though some places are still slow on the curve, which is fine, but open up to patrons (looking at you, Fountain Porter).

I went to get a hair cut on Passyunk on Saturday. I haven't been up there in months and things just keep changing (for the better). Though, at some point they have to reign in these streetery parklets jawns. Not because I give a shit about parking (take all the cars away), but because businesses think they can have both a streetery and take up the entire sidewalk. Plus, some are just plain scary on a busy street. Cars have now crashed into people. Plus, who wants exhaust DIRECTLY in their face?

After the haircut for the first time since probably 2019 I sat in a dark and empty bar. It made me so happy.

At the game I'd say 98% of people weren't wearing them. I wore one anytime we were inside and it was a bit crowded. My wife, unfortunately, had a panic attack because she just wasn't completely ready as she thought she'd be for all of it. So I helped her with that by buying her some cranberry vodkas. Also, seemed like the concession lines were out of control. Another plus of the High and Inside Pub - no lines, right up to the bar. Additionally, somehow the beer choices have gotten worse. For a park that started off priding itself on Yards, Victory, and the such, it's now all Anheuser Busch (with Goose Island in disguise). The Bank is far behind on craft brew choices.

Essentially 0 masks at the Phillies. Even workers.

Different story in my neighborhood. Still see plenty.

  • Interesting, thanks for the recap.  Sorry that your wife had that reaction but it sounds like you knew how to help!  :)

streetery parklets jawns -- this made me smile.  That is fucking Philly Talk, right there.

A ways back we took my mother-in-law to a Phillies game and she was staring at the big scoreboard and asked us where was the graphic that shows which bases are occupied by baserunners. We laughed for years and years.

  • I took two of my nephews and my sister (the mom to one of the boys) to a Phillies game 3-4 years ago.
My sister was in awe of the non-stop beer pandering and at one point her son (maybe 12 at that point?) started harassing her about being on her 3rd beer in what I think was the 4th inning.
"My mom is getting wasted at the ballgame!"
"Hey mom, are you going to buy a beer every time the guy walks by?"
"Uncle B, do you think  you can carry my mom if she falls over from 3 beers?"

Don't think she ever drank beer in front of him before...it was hot as fuck out, and I was driving.  I had to tell him to chill out about 5 times.  Unfortunately, that stopped what likely could have been 7 or 8 beers down and no doubt some funny stuff happening.

This is one of the things I find most different from other parks -- most places I have to get up to get a beer.  If I am at a Phillies game I need to leave to take a leak, but that is it.  Grab some great food prior to the game, bring down to the seats and start the beer machine going.
It almost makes me sad when I am the driver and have waters flowing.
Just something great about being at a ballgame and having beers constantly handed to you.

It does make me leery when I head to the parking lot, though.  Guessing a whole lot of those mofos are getting behind the wheel after playing beer-an-inning for hours.

    Yes, this.
You only have to be able to sit through a bit of traffic and get on one of the highways...and then you are safe from cops until you exit, provided you can stay in your lane and not smash into someone on the highway.

I say it all of the time -- most people have little to zero interest in keeping drunk people off from the roads.
