the "good guy with a gun" vs "the bad guy with a gun" line is a talking point put out there by mr nra, wayne lapierre himself. glad people are using it, just like trained dogs."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

Sad. From what I've read, a really kind soul taken away with no reason.
Good news is there was a good guy with a gun right around the corner. Surely saved many lives as the coward had to turn his gun on himself because an officer was en route within a minute.
The deputy was yelling for people to get down and identified himself as a county deputy sheriff, Robinson said. "We know for a fact that the shooter knew that the deputy was in the immediate area and, while the deputy was containing the shooter, the shooter took his own life."
He praised the deputy's response as "a critical element to the shooter's decision" to kill himself, and lauded his response to hearing gunshots. "He went to the thunder," he said. "He heard the noise of gunshot and, when many would run away from it, he ran toward it to make other people safe."
http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/14/us/colora ... ?c=&page=3
so what did he say/post to warrent such a backlash ? this was the second post that mentioned gun's the first being from Last12exits and after that it was harsh attack of words.

The good guy with a gun comment left a lot for interpretation- especially given your outspoken views on gun ownership in every other thread. In other words, the way you worded had me wondering if you meant the hero was the deputy or the gun.
If you had left that little nugget out of your post, I would have been right there with you. The deputy was brave in the line of duty.
I think this post answered your question, Godfather.
There was one comment made about gun control- the very last one prior to the initial post. From a timing element, it at least seems as if the other comments- lamenting on the loss of life- were unworthy of responding to. It was the moment someone made mention of the gun problem that he chose to chime in.
Further, let's not forget the history of said poster: an outspoken advocate for guns. The message was implied whether some choose to hide behind it or not."My brain's a good brain!"0 -
It's just sad that shit like this will keep happening & happening and all that comes out of it is the same old debate , nothing will ever change except more innocent people will be killed every yr with out as much as 1 new law being considered by the Pro gun folks up in Capitol Hill ......Fuck you & your guns enjoy your holidays all snuggled up to your riflle .....jesus greets me looks just like me ....0

Just a thought from a Coloradan here....
The drinking age in the US was raised partly to help keep alcohol out of high schools. Isn't it a concern that it's easier to buy a shotgun in our country than it is a beer? The Arapahoe HS shooter legally bought a gun as an 18 year old, no parental consent or knowledge of the purchase needed. Wouldn't it be common sense to either: 1) raise the purchase age to 21, or 2) if kept at 18, at least require parental consent? This is for purchase (a hunting dad can give a younger kid a hunting rifle). So about 1/2 of high school seniors (those that are 18 years of age) can legally go buy a rifle (not a handgun thank god) without anyone knowing about it. The Columbine shooters bought their guns illegally - but at least that MIGHT slow down a manic or depressed or angry or just impulsive adolescent - at least then they have to ask around. All this Arapahoe HS shooter had to do was walk in a store. Boom! Another one joins the parade - an innocent girl. I just don't get it.0 -
how many responsible gun owners are there in America ? ...so this backasswords way of thinking we should take guns away from everybody is the answer ? NOT !

hmmmm.... I don't recall mentioning anything about taking guns away from anyone.... just thinking it might make sense to have some restrictions on high school kids buying them.... (wow, what a radical, radical thought)0

It's time to come home from the fair. In all the gun debates I have read and been part of... nobody has ever said abolish all guns.
I know that you rest on the incredibly weak side of the argument, so I know why you must resort to such extreme exaggerations in an effort to try and establish credibility- if people actually were talking about abolishing all guns... then there would actually be a debate (and one where I would side with you).
Again... military grade weapons, high capacity magazines, and stricter licensing are primarily the topics I see supported by 'the crazies' who seek gun reform.

unsung I stopped by on March 7 2024. First time in many years, had to update payment info. Hope all is well. Politicians suck. Bye. Posts: 9,487So, those advocating for bans on AR-15's and 30 rd magazines, what is your answer to those that already have these in their possession? This is the most common sporting rifle in the country and the magazine has had MILLIONS made. Some politicians are suggesting creating laws that make it a felony to own these. So I'd be turned into a criminal even though I haven't had a speeding ticket in 15 years? Are you prepared to potentially charge millions of people with felonies? What will you do when they refuse to comply?
The solutions offered only punish the law abiding and do nothing to address those that are intent on committing mayhem no matter how many laws are written.0 -
well...there are some on here that want to abolish guns all together,if you go thru the verious gun topics and posts you will see some that state just thatThirty Bills Unpaid said:

so stating nobody on here wants to abolish guns is a straight up untruth my friend and banning all so called assult guns or limiting magizines is not the answer to the problem
and as I have said before mental health records should be part of the back ground check but that will or would turn into a nightmere also, where will the government stop when going thru your personal back ground files,we have already seen what the NSA and obama are doing, did you know that there some motorcycle clubs and thier members that can not travel internationally fellon or not just because of their afelliation with a M/C ? so I have to wonder that with all this info and abuse of power by our government they can't keep weapons out of the hands of mentally ill (on paper) people ? this is all a shell game by the government and the responsible people/gun owners are stuck with bull crap, so banning these weapons will not fix or help anything.

I call bullshit that anyone has called for an 'all out ban' on every gun. This has not happened- I have been active in or have at least read every thread on gun ownership in the last 4-5 years. I've never seen one comment suggesting what you have said.
As far as assault rifles, high capacity magazines, handguns... honestly... I don't give a shit anymore. If I lived in the US... I'd be outraged, but I don't. Your country is fooked. It would take a hell of a lot of effort to make it safe by getting rid of your guns-designed-to-efficiently-kill-humans... and you have so many out-of-their-focking-mind-gun-loving-kooks... that there likely isn't the political will to do so (well... obviously there isn't).
It's safe to say that the inmates run the asylum. 12,000 gun homicides per year and people deny the correlation between these deaths and your gun ownership statistics. No other 1st world country comes into the same stratosphere as the US with regards to gun homicide rates and the only difference is the fact that they don't sell guns at service stations.
