This thread is a fun read :)

I saw them in 93 with Blind Melon and Neil Young at GM place.
vs wasn't out yet, so we got to hear a lot of new stuff....they played Animal on mtv a few nights before, but other than that, people hadn't heard any of it...the show was right at the pinnacle of their hype, really.....
Eddie drank wine from a a Chuck Taylor that was thrown onstage.
lots of vivid little memories from that road trip and show. good times :)

Just went back and checked and I saw them 8 times up through 1995. The best set list was probably Soldier Field, Chicago in '95 which was a phenomenal show (Animal, I Got Shit) - longest show until State College '03, I think, but Constitution Hall sticks out in my mind for some reason - maybe cause they played Satan's Bed, Glorified G, Breath, Go, Lukin, Blood and songs I'd rarely heard live before. For what it's worth, here they are in chrono order: 1) AJ Palumbo Ctr - Pittsburgh 10/25/91 2) Star Lake Ampitheatre, Pittsburgh, PA 8/16/92 3) Jones Beach Music Theatre, Wantaugh, NY 8/9/92 4) Cleveland State Univ, Cleveland, OH 3/22/94 5) Patriot Center, Fairfax, VA 4/8/94 6) Constitution Hall, Washington DC 1/14/95 7) Constitution Hall, Washington DC 1/15/95 8) Soldier Field, Chicago,IL 7/11/95. This would be about 1/4 of the shows I've seen. Good thread, Whitepants. It's nice to read the trip the fans have taken with this band. :D

My first time was Brixton in 93, I had listened to (and taped!) the Finsbury park gig on radio one and was so excited to be going. Me and my sis got to Brixton really early and were near front in the queue. It was a really hot day but also raining and once inside we ran to the front but the heat and the overwhelming smell of wet people made me faint even before the support band were on! (Two Tribes I think). Woke up on the floor with faces looking down at me asking if I was ok. I can remember people kindly parting for me to get through the crowd. I got a pint of water and by the time the support band had finished I was ready to go down the front again but I never managed to find my sister until the end of the gig. They played Black and I cried my eyes out!
Those were the days! I was going to Brixton nearly every other week to see gigs.

My first show was at Murphy Center in Murfreesboro, TN in March of 94. It was two days before my 17th birthday they opened up two side sections like the week before the show and put extra tickets on sale so I sat side stage on like the 12th row. None of my friends could go with me though, so I went by myself and my dad drove me out there and dropped me off and waited outside for me during the show. It was an amazing concert. The energy that they had on the stage was incredible. At most live shows, you always worry that the band may not sound as good live, but they sounded even better. Probably the highlight of the show was when Steve Cropper came out and they played Dock of the Bay. It was a great version and an all around incredible night that I'll never forget.

    Boston Garden
Coming back from for the first encore, Eddie broght out some geen basketball hightops and holds them up "look what i found..." This being the old Boston Garden, the place goes batshit crazy, "YYYYEEEEAAAHH!!! Woo Woo!!!" Then Eddie goes, "I picked them up up in Chicago... CHEAP!" All those cheers turned into "BBBBBBBBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO's" in a half second! Then eddie said like he was just kidding and he loved Boston and was gonna rock this town. Place was super pumped up after that.

Anyway, what I also remember is that me and my friends had an extra ticket because one of the group bailed at the very last second. Everyone was trying to get a ticket, scalpers, biz types. I sold the extra at face value to some dude who looked he like would enjoy the show.

Tonight, 15 years later, I'm on my way to Shepherd's Bush without a ticket hoping that karma comes around and I'm able to get a ticket.

Mesa Amphitheatre - May 1992. Paid 9.98 (Local Radio Station 98 KUPD Promo) Was a Junior in High School and drunk on Boones Farm Wine... Strawberry Hill if I remember correctly. First Time in a mosh pit, got laid out by some big guy but pulled back up just as fast. Eddie jumped into the crowd and someone ripped off his baseball hat, got back on stage and was not happy. Asked nicely to get it back, wonder if he did. Amazing night.

I first saw them at Lollapaloza 1992 at Great Woods in Mansfield, MA. I was a casual fan when I went in.

They came out and played almost all of Ten. 45 minutes of the most blistering rock and roll I have ever heard. The greatest live performance I have ever seen. After they played Jermey, Eddie said "That was for all the Jeremys out there"- INSTANT CONNECTION! If I could relive one day of my life, it may very well be August 8, 1992. The Red Hot Chillis, Soundgarden, Ministry, Ice Cube, and Pearl Jam.

08/11/93 - Max Bell Arena: Calgary, Alberta

    attendance: 4,700

support act: Cadillac Tramps (who were fucking awesome!!!)

notes: A terribly hot venue, totally packed. Despite a hammered Ed and a very poor sound system, making the bass lines and bass drum often indistinguishable, PJ delivers a magical performance, the most memorable part of the night being when Ed improved a song called 'Canadians Rule' after talking about how much he loved Canadians. This show is a mix of Ten songs and newer Vs. songs.

(They played almost all of Ten and about 6 or 7 songs from Vs. Closed the night with Indifference. Stage was almost completely dark except for some dark blue lights and candles. The image is burnt into my memory.)

Hi all. I'm new to the forum but a long time fan. I first saw Pearl Jam at Lollapalooza '92 in Phoenix. It was at Desert Sky Pavilion and we had lawn seats. When the band was scheduled to perform, you could just feel the energy of the crowd bump up several notches. We all moved up to the barriers separating the lawn seats from the "premium" seats. Once Pearl Jam began performing, we all jumped the barricade and spilled into the aisle down to the front. Eddie was urging us on and security was like "f*ck it, let em go". Aisles were packed and I the rest of the show in the pit. My husband was at the same show but we were not a couple at the time and we are finally seeing them again at Outside Lands on 8/28, almost 17 years later!

My first show was Mudfest, Gimli Manitoba 08/14/1993. I'm sure a lot of you have seen this on a DVD boot that exists. It was an amazing show that started it all for me. My biggest memory of the show was trying so hard to jump up and down but the mud was so deep. At the time this was the best live show I had ever seen. I have been to a few more since then and for me they get better each show. Looking forward to many more.

I was there too darlin', and I have that show on VHS. I really should transfer it to DVD sometime soon. It was f**king amazing seeing them live that early on. The only problem was, as with many festival shows, the sound wasn't the greatest for hearing multiple unheard songs, as VS wouldn't be released for another few weeks. But it was cool, nonetheless. My boss at the time was catering the event, and said he met them in a trailer, and that every one of them was stoned out of their minds. I'm guessing he just thought they were.......as I picture Eddie sitting in a corner with a hood over his head.

And the Mud was brutal. The amount of sneakers (and probably Doc's) left behind after that show was tremendous.

One of my favorite musicians of all time........Shannon Hoon died in October of 1995.

Oops, I had my shows screwed up because I was late and missed Blind Melon. It was suicidal tendencies, and metallica, and Alice in chains. Candlebox took AIC's place at the last minute. Fuck that was a long time ago.

First show march of 94 at the Murphy center in Nashville! I was 16. They opened with rearviewmirror playing the first half of it with the lights off. They closed with indifference. Life hasn't been the same since!

1991 - Off Ramp Cafe when they were still going by Mookie Blaylock. They opened for Alice in Chains. Then a few times at the RKCNDY in 91. At one of the RKCNDY shows Ed invited Chris Cornell up on the stage and they did 3 songs from Temple of the Dog - awesome. From Temple they played "Reach Down," "All Night Thing" and I think "Hunger Strike." Ed was climbing all around on the pipes hanging down from the ceiling. At one point he traversed over the mosh pit (on a hanging pipe about 10-15 feet above us) and jumped to the railing of the second level - crazy. Also in 91 at the Mural Amphitheater - outdoor show in Seattle Center. Then the free show at Magnuson Park - Drop in the Park. Oh yeah, and also 1992 Lollapalooza at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds. On a side note - I saw Mother Love Bone at Legends in Tacoma sometime in early 1990 right before Andrew died and Apple was released.

i was 14. $85 a piece for a floor ticket (parents bought me 2, one for a now ex gf). it was more than unbelievable for me and less than 10min from my house!

some one posted earlier about this show and they were WAY off. Mudhoney opened this show. another highlight for me. and ed never threw a chair leg or anything off the stage. i think spin the black circle was played for the first time this night. one of the first times not for you was played as well, i think.
in two days it will have been 14 years. crazy.

This was my first show as well and yeah, Mudhoney definitely opened. Went with a bunch of friends but we all sat separately because you could only buy two tix at a time from Tickemaster for whatever reason. We were seated towards the back in the first bowl of the Springfield Civic Center (which was small anyway) and as soon as the lights went low what looked like hundreds of kids rushed the floor. My friend Josh wanted to do the same, but I just wanted to hang back and listen (mostly because we also had floor seats in Boston the next week and I figured we'd be going ballistic there - before I realized The Garden wouldn't do general admission). In retrospect, we shoulda hit the floor. When we caught up with all of our friends later on in the parking garage we found out that everyone else hit the floor and my friend Matt actually walked out with Eddie's guitar stand (I've posted that story before). So I'm not sure if he was throwing stuff off the stage, but at the very least he gave a couple of souvenirs to the crowd.

I think it was Boston the next week when Dave threw his snare into the crowd, but I guess that coulda been this show. 90% sure it was Boston on 4/11/94 though.
I suggest you step out on your porch...run away my son...see it all...oh see the world // I wait on the porch...hoping someday I'll be let in

Not sure about that. He definitely did the shoe schtick on 4/11/94, but I don't remember the Chicago joke. I do remember him saying something like "I haven't had white sneakers since I was fucking 10 years old" so I think he pulled out the Bird home sneakers on 4/11. I have an extremely crappy boot of that show, I'll have to check it out and try to jog my memory.

It was my first PJ show, I was 12 years old. Vs. had just come out. They opened with Release in complete darkness, and closed with RITFW with the house lights on, and they played everything in the middle. They even played brand new songs Corduroy and Not For You. I vividly remember them playing footsteps, you could hear a pin drop in the arena. But the reason I will remember this show forever is because it was the day that the body of KC was found. I did not know. EV talked about the incident and dedicated a song to him. I was confused, and the person next to me told me he died that day. I believe the song that was dedicated was "Go," but I am not 100% sure. If anyone knows which song was dedicated, please let me know.

This was also my first show. As I was getting ready to leave my house in Frederick, it was announced on TV that they had found Kurt. There was a great deal of speculation in the parking lot before we went in whether the show would be cancelled. Those were the days when Eddie rarely looked out past his hair and they all jumped around like the young men they were. Phenomenal event, I still have the t-shirt with the Freak on it. I've been hooked ever since.
