I posted the following in philly 2 review. Appreciate pj while they still tour. Been a fan since 94.

Spoiled Pearl jam fans! I was at 3 shows bklyn 1 philly 1 and 2 and loved all 3 . How many groups do you know that give 2 and a half to 3 hr of music and give 100% effort EVERY TIME. I savor every minute of shows I go to . How long do you think they will keep going like this?. Thank you pearl jam for all the pleasure over the last 23 years!

99 different songs played 8 shows in.

    So I have to disagree!

I think that stat speaks for it self.

It seems like everyone feels the same as me but maybe I have been going to too many. I have only been going to shows for 5 years but when I look back at old tours, it seems different? Is it just me?

Now, I only wish there was a way to donate 10c tix to someone who could use them. There is no way to get my tix into the wishlist foundation or something right?

Thanks guys for the responses and advice.
Yeah, it would be really great if they would figure out a system for giving 10C ticket ownership to other 10C members. It wouldn't be that hard, so I don't get why they don't allow it (although I don't think it would work for wishlist foundation pre-party raffles, if that's what you were thinking, because that would be too short notice for 10C to transfer ownership to another specific person...).

  • I've seen them 24 times and I use to listen to bootlegs all the time. So a lot of the songs don't have the same feel like they use to.

I think it all depends on you. No shows are 'necessary' per se, but have you ever been to a show that was not enjoyable? Looking at a show's setlist on paper doesn't always do it justice, in my opinion there are several contributing factors to make or break a great show experience. If you have shitty seats, or you are stuck next to unpleasant people for the duration of the show, or if you were stuck in traffic/stuck on a merch line, had someone spill something on you, etc. can ruin the experience for you even if the setlist was ideal.

I was a little bit worried about PJ overload because I was at Wrigley, both Brooklyn shows, I'm going to Hartford, and then 4 of the BDO dates in January. That's 8 shows in 7 months, but I am still distracted as fuck with excitement for Hartford on Friday, because each experience is different. There are some really interesting setlists so far and there is obviously an emphasis on the songs from the new album but there's some really good rarities and sing-along favorites getting mixed in as well.

If you are burnt out on shows maybe just wait for the boots to come out? :)

I've actually begun rethinking my own concert attending habits. Over the past three or four years, whenever I've seen multiple shows in a week, it seems like the first one rules, but I'm not as into the second one. I attended all four Spectrum shows in 2009 and it was like a sensory overload. Way too much. In 2010, I caught Virginia on May 10th and then MSG on May 21st and the 11 days between shows was awesome. MSG seemed like I hadn't seen them in a while...like it was a whole new tour. But Brooklyn on Saturday and Philly on Tuesday this year....I dunno...I just wasn't too into Philly for some reason. Maybe at this point, being older and having seen them a bunch of times, less can be more for me. I saw five shows in 2003, 4 in 2006, and four in 2008.....and it didn't seem like enough. This year, two seemed like plenty.
totally agree. I had to bail on monday's night show and was actually glad I did. four shows in 5 nights was just too much. i think it would have been better if I would have gone to both brooklyn then hartford. next tour I'll definitely try and spread it out more.
I'll ride the wave where it takes me......

and in Brooklyn as pointed out earlier had 66 songs played 56 unique songs.

very strange when peoples perceptions are so far from reality.

Yep. It does. If this was a non-album tour their back to back shows in a city would have only about 4-5 repeats like usual. Think of how many shows this year Better Man or Even Flow have not been played. A lot more than usual.

So this is the "I got 99 songs but Getaway ain't one" tour? (Sorry.)

I've gone to six shows this year and have another 9 scheduled.

I've really, really enjoyed four of them, and then had an okay time at the other two. The okay shows I had seats by myself or I was stressed out from work that day and couldn't get into the shows. For me, if I'm with some buddies or just relaxed and ready to have some fun I'll enjoy every show. If I'm tired or wore out, then it probably won't be a show I'll have a lot of fun at.

    i just did some stats

ive been to 7 shows before this tour, im going to 6 total i have been to 4 so far and here is what it looks like for me

In the 4 shows we have been to so far we have seen 135 songs total, 82 of which were not repeated, and including the new album we have seen 32 songs we have not seen live before!

Was at both Worcester shows. Saw 53 unique songs. Don't think any other bands would or can do that. Going to Hartford and I am sure I will see some more unique songs.

It might seem that way with the new album. My wife isn't as big a fan as me but has seen them 10+ times and she stated to me that the 2 Worcester shows were by far the best overall concert experience so far.

I think people are way overreacting to this.

I wonder what it'll be like when PJ quits touring all together?
    1 year
    2 years
    5 years
    15 years later.....

Will you still be glad you only saw those 3-4 shows 15 years ago?

    Or

Will you be upset that you can never experience a live show by the greatest Rock and Roll band ever again?

Perhaps some introspective thought is in order for all who have grown weary of these types of shows?

Maybe it is just me... But the lamest crowd at the greatest of greatest hits shows is better then trying to remember what they use to sound like.

Enjoy it while you can, nothing lasts forever.

The numbers don't lie. I went to BK1,2 and Philly 1,2 and I was blown away with the setlists and diversity. These are some of the best setlists I've ever seen. I thought this thread was meant to be sarcastic at first.
