Got into Pittsburgh to be met with some weird traffic jam that wrapped only around our hotel to get into the parking garage. It took 3.5 hours to get to pittsburgh, 1 hour to get around our hotel.

Anyways. I had won seats on Global Citizen and was pleased to see them land right next to the corner of the stage on Stone's side, 6th row. Pretty much perfect. Best seats I ever had for Pearl Jam.

Pendulum was amazing as an opener. A song in hearing it on the album I was lukewarm on... but in a live show, opening, it is in its element and is bone chilling.
Then Of the Girl and Nothingman made for a great start.
Was very happy to get the double-play of RVM and Porch.
Speed of Sound is a nice treat.
    Love Whipping,
and I would be remiss if I didnt mention the star attraction: Footsteps

I liked the Jason Grilli thing. We saw him by our seats before the show and people were lining up to harass him for photos and such. He was totally cool with it and accommodated everyone. I thought his "speech" and "dancing" were spontaneous and funny and adds a nice memorable footnote to the show.

its also funny, I brought a couple 1st timers down and was bragging to them how Pearl Jam never really cheaply panders to the home city by using the sports teams. Low and behold they had Grilli on stage and also brought on all those Pirates hats and helmets at the end.

Overall, very solid start to the tour.

Was wearing my Made In America shirt, and was in front of/a bit to the right of Mike for the majority of the show, ended up more to the right, nearer to Jeff, as people shuffled around during the show.

ah, didn`t see you, too bad, but glad you had an awesome show

the people reacting to shit thrown from the band into the pit are ridiculous

at one point, 5 people dropped and lunged like a linebacker at pics or stickers that Mike through into the crowd and one almost took out my knees with his shoulder like a football tackle

never thought there was a possibility my ACL will be blown out from someone grasping for a pic or sticker

  • Sound quality at Consol was one of the best I've heard! Or maybe it was the band just being a little more wound up than usual. Does anyone know if there will be bootlegs?

They played 4 of my top 10 songs in one show, almost unheard of. Of the Girl, Let the Records Play, FOOTSTEPS! And Ledbetter.

Nothing about this show possibly could have went better the set list was pretty much made for me, I got front row, GOT A TAMBOURINE and rocked out with Boom like 5 times. Perfect night, perfect show.

    THANK YOU PEARL JAM!!!

Congrats on the tambourine! I was about 10 people behind you in line and ended up a little to your left in the second row for the show. My girlfriend and I loved the spiderman hoodie and I'm glad Ed appreciated it too. You were most definitely rocking the fuck out during the show and deserved the attention. Safe travels man!

oh fuck, I totally got lost in Pittsburgh :fp: :fp:

I figured since I have driven in major cities like Toronto, Montreal, Chicago, Detroit, Boston that Pittsburgh shouldn`t be that difficult.

50 minutes to get to my hotel

    fuck me I was wrong

    :fp:

Lol! I know what you mean. I left Columbus, Ohio around 3:30, which, under normal circumstances would have put me in Pittsburgh around 6:30, 6:45. I hit some major traffic on I-79 :x , missed a turn downtown :fp: , & walked into Consol around 8:10 thinking about how much I missed. Luckily, I was fine :o . In my seat 10 minutes before the guys hit the stage :corn: . Leaving was a whole different animal. I waited in the parking lot with my brother & tried to let the traffic die down. We finally pulled onto 5th Ave. around midnight, hit a Denny's down the road & back home by 4:00a. Worth every fucked up moment to see this show. :D

Wow what a great show and long day. Left my home at 6:00am, met fellow 10C smarchee just outside Hamilton and we made the trek all the way to Pitts.
I thought the show was just amazing  Hearing them open with Pendulum was great, really like it as an opener. Then getting to hear Of a Girl next...I was wow..really enjoy this tune.
As far as the new tunes go....liked hearing Sirens, Let The Records Play was a surprize, really like how this sounded live, MYM was cool to see again....crowd definitely gets into it and liked Yellow Moon :)
Was super stoked to hear Footsteps....finally got to see this live. Didn't know if it was ever going to happen, thanks PJ :D

great show in PGH. when i saw mike with the bow, i was a bit puzzled and thought the only song it could be was Pendulum....bone chilling....the song is a perfect opener....then hearing the first noodling on OF THE GIRL, me and my nephew nearly blacked out..we both wanted of the girl so bad..what a great start to the tour. we were about 20 yards back in front of mike in the PIT, sounded great under the PA, as it got louder, it was a bit muddy at times, but overall, the sound was killer. ed sounded great all night.

the slow roll opener (3-4 slow paced songs) and then the same in encore 1, makes perfect sense as the shows are going to average 2:35 min (both pgh and buffalo where exactly that length) - makes sense to pace them...plus, we are basically getting multiple openers....love it. the build up is great...

highlights where Pendulum, of the girl, Footsteps, the mini YIELD set....INFALLIBLE <--- you have to hear this live to appreciate how incredible this song is....same with PENDULUM. overall, the new songs sound so much better live...even Sirens live is so powerfull a song, the band is really tight on that one...

the crowd in the pit was great, no pushing at all, very high energy, great experience......

gotta enjoy these shows when you can, they are not getting any younger.....rock on.

What a memorable night....2nd row in front of Mike.

Was glad to see/hear that the woman who passed out next to me just before PJ started was ok. I saw her afterwards and it sounded like she was still able to enjoy the show albeit not from the pit.

Kudos to the mom who brought her 7 yr old to the pit and then held him the whole show so that he could see....she must have had some tired-ass arms by the end of the night. The boy looked like he had an awesome time...and kudos to the security guard in front of us, as he gave one of Mike's pics that hadn't made it to the crowd to the boy.

Also, in case you were wondering...the Franco Harris (or his alter ego Irishman Frank O'Harris) wine that Ed was drinking TASTED PRETTY DAMN GOOD! He came down and poured a glass to a guy to my left and then looked around and no one else had any cups...so I did what I had to do. I reached down to the floor, found a cup....threw out whatever was in it...and held it up and Ed proceeded to pour me a half glass of wine which I then shared with a few people before saving the rest to put on display at home, original cup and all

Ok, so that last part is a complete lie....while I DID get the wine...I really didn't SAVE any of it...I drank it...and so did about a half-dozen others! I wonder what was in that cup beforehand? :o :fp:

The highlight for me was being so close and being able to hear 10 of the 12 new songs from LB over the course of these first 2 shows (Buffalo on Sat)....the first to hear those songs LIVE. Now I only wish I had more shows upcoming....

Great show in Pittsburgh. I was with a pair of just very casual fans and they absolutely loved it. I think when you blow away casual fans, that's the sign of a great performance. as good as the show was, I'm even more impressed by what the band does for a local economy. Just about the only people walking around on Friday and Saturday were all Pearl Jam related. Hotels were full, restaurants were booming, license plates from all over the place. Ontario, Indiana, Nerw Jersey, Ohio, New York. Love that we all travel and get to share in a common experience. The only thing better than seeing Pearl Jam at home is seeing Pearl Jam on the road. Hoping to see all of you in NYC next weekend. I'll be at The Kitano.
  • I don't understand all the positive reviews, but everyone is definitely entitled to their own opinions. I'm not a big fan of Pendulum, although it's kind of cool as an opener. After that the crowd was just waiting for the band to kick it up a notch with something heavy and it took a while. Overall, it seemed like the band had a hard time getting in a groove with the fans and balancing out the new material. After almost every song there would be waves of people heading for the concourse like I've never seen before. This definitely ranks low in the list of shows I've seen.

The good thing is I knew they would bounce back the next night and deliver. They certainly did as Buffalo was an incredible show.

I thought it was a great show. Though I do agree it seems like there was some hesitancy from the band as they figured their way through a new album/tour, that's to be expected and I thought they brought a lot of energy. During the middle of the set, a lot of people around me (I was in section 203) were sitting down, and that was disappointing. I heard that from some other friends around the Consol...their loss, I figure.

BTW, just because of your name, I was real excited to see Umphreys in Charlottesville a couple years ago, and I got bored early on and couldn't come out of it. During their jams, half of the crowd stopped paying attention to them and started talking amongst themselves, like it was an encore break; is that normal or did I see a bad show?

Enjoyed our trip to Pittsburgh and the show. Traffic was awful, so it was good that we walked everywhere.

I thought the crowd energy level was good. The band sounded great. From where we sat, the energy in the pit looked good, but not crazy! We had lower level TM seats, and we were surrounded by some very nice PJ fans. Cant wait for Dallas!

Didn't love the late start, but that's my only complaint! If you want to start at 8, just put that on the ticket! :)

By the way, a huge thank you to whoever threw their Penguins hat on stage to Ed. Towards the end of the show he took it off his head and threw it out towards the crowd on Stone's side. It is old, worn, faded, too huge for my head and now the most prized hat in my collection. :)

    Thank you!!

Yeah you're exactly right about new album/first show of a tour, and I still think the band brought it. I was in the lower bowl area and there was a lot of people sitting. That could've added to the lack of energy from my perspective.

As far as Umphrey's, they usually do a good job of keeping that crowd into it, so that is a rare occurrence. But sometimes their jams can go a little bit long, and that's probably what happened in that case. Sounds like you didn't get the best show, but I'd recommend giving them another shot if they come back around.

At the top left is my arm up in the air cheering for you with the blue Wrigley wristband on. Congrats again!

Thanks! That's like the best possible pic ever, thanks also to samjam she sent me the pic as well.

    I see you! Haha
  • My first show and i was amazed at just how good the band sounded. Loved the setlist just wished they played another 31 tunes more.

  • My first show, and it was truly amazing to finally have my own memories of PJ and not just read or hear about them. Got to hear all of my favorite songs, and despite being up in 208 with people sitting, I have every reason now to look forward to my 10c GA tickets in Baltimore. Even my casual fan husband and sister who went along loved the show, so I couldn't have asked for more!

My 7th show and the luckiest so far. Had GA tix and was running somewhat late but still made it to the front on Mike's side. I thought the setlist was great. They mixed it up more than I've seen em do before. I thought the band was into it from the start too. I've been hoarse for 5 days and can't wait til the 30th in Charlotte. Overall I'd say this show was top 2 out of 7

People do realize there are more than one Merch Booths at the shows right? I Showed up at 6:30 after I went back to my brother's after we picked up our 10C Tickets at 2pm. Merch booth outside was out of posters, walked to the first Merch booth inside on the main level and saw huge line. Headed to restroom and found another Merch Booth, was in line 10 minutes and got my poster. Took it and my Sister's poster up to the Suite that my brother and friends had then headed to GA Pit. Enjoyed the show right near Jason Grilli, who later went onstage. I waited probably 25-30 minutes total combined in lines. Awesome show and they played Footsteps my favorite fucking song!
