I'm actually glad to hear that there was some pushing and shoving in GA, looked pretty much idle in the LTRP vid. Dance people! Get sweaty! It's a rock show!!

  • Amazing show!!! Pendulum as the opener was perfect. Mike was on another level. The band seemed to be having a great time with each other all night. the 2nd encore seemed to go on and on and on. every time a song ended I thought it was the end, and then another one just kept playing.

Highlights: pendulum, infallible, footsteps, rearviewmirror, unthought known, black (we belong together tag), sirens, speed of sound, and catching a pick from Mike.

the energy at the front of the floor was awesome. and yes there was some bumping and pushing, nothing malicious, just people having fun; and, it is general admission main floor so if you didn't want to be bumped into you could always move to the back.

the only thing that brought it down a bit was all the pylons on the main floor. if you are going to stand there all night with your arms folded not moving, how about you just get seats, preferably behind the stage, or even just stay home and watch a live dvd. also, no opening band is fine, but if you say 7:30 and don't go on until 8:20, then why not just have the opening band. let me say i don't care what time they go on, just don't say 7:30

the baseball player guy coming out was fine. he was super stoked to be on the stage, and i think he was just really excited.

by far the best show i've been to since 2006 in grand rapids.

Very good show. Pendellum was a cool opener with mike using a bow. I was super stoked they played of the girl as I had not seen it yet and it was at the top of my wish list. The only other song they played not counting LB songs I had not heard before was speed of sound so that was cool as well. After 14 shows for me and 10 albums for the band it is truly at a point where you have no idea what they might play and so many choices may totally surprise or not be ones you ever even thought about leading up to the show. For me those were songs like Unemployable, speed of sound, footsteps, and untitled. This band never disappoints and this was just another show I am very happy I made the trip for.
words seem so out of place.

    Early birthday present from mike.

    So awesome! Congrats!
I've been fortunate enough to see Pearl Jam live.

We all called it; Pendulum makes a great opener. This show blew Wrigley out of the water. As my only 2 shows so far (Buffalo tonight), I was blown away at the sound, the energy, the crowd, everything was awesome. 7 songs from LB, and all sounded great live. Although, I must say that Infallible is a better album song right now.

I had 10c reserved seats and ended up with Floor 3 row L, near center aisle, but slightly on Mike's side. My ears were ringing all night. Giovanni's pizza afterwards was crucial! Is that east coast style pizza? Because we sure don't have anything like that in Michigan.

Being a Detroit Tiger's and Red Wings fan, the Grilli thing and seeing Cindy Crosbey everywhere, I was rolling my eyes. But Grilli was having fun, and if I was a Pirates fan I would have liked that.

All-in-all, fucking love this band, and I can't wait to do it all again tonight. Now for some Primanti Bros before hitting the road!

The whole Jason Grilli thing was terrible. I thought I was at a wwf event.

seems he should've had a cue to exit the stage before the song started!

BEST FUCKING NIGHT EVER!!! Got in line for GA at 11 or so, got rail on Stones side! I lost it when they played of the girl, all the new songs sounded so fucking awesome.

During RITFW I zipped up my spiderman hoodie over my head like a mask and Ed came over and handed me and another girl a tambourine, I couldn't believe it!

They played 4 of my top 10 songs in one show, almost unheard of. Of the Girl, Let the Records Play, FOOTSTEPS! And Ledbetter.

Nothing about this show possibly could have went better the set list was pretty much made for me, I got front row, GOT A TAMBOURINE and rocked out with Boom like 5 times. Perfect night, perfect show.

    THANK YOU PEARL JAM!!!

I thought he would have joined in for the chorus, don't need much talent to say Whipping over and over. But he just jumped around and played air guitar. He was a lot bigger than I thought he was; he towered over Ed

Footsteps was definitely a highlight for me too. My wife asked me what the name of that song was, so she was digging it as well.

  • The Grilli thing was nice for the hometown Faithful. They just went through 21 years of irrelevance, so there's a lot of pent up celebration in those folks. Funny to read the WWE reference, though, because I thought he was channeling his best Hulk Hogan during his 'Whipping' dance.

Unreal show, though. The heavy singalongs were coldchill-inducing. I was actually impressed by the several people who had clearly done their Lightning Bolt homework on the iTunes stream as well. While the vast majority were sort of intensely watching and consuming the songs, there were several people who already knew the words to a lot of those tunes. PJ fans, man. What can you say?

Let's go again soon, lads. :D

“The waiting drove me mad” was the theme for me… waiting to pick up 10 Club tix… waiting in merch line… waiting in GA line… waiting for band to come on… But as they say – it was well worth the wait!

I got to the arena around 2:00 and the GA line was about 50-60 people deep. Had some light rain that made the wait a little soggy – but was around the most awesome group of 10 Clubbers ever! Everyone agreed that the 4+ hour wait flew by because we all had a great time sharing stories (and pizza). Everyone was a bit on edge since GA was new for this tour – it went pretty good – until like others said security fell back on their promise to let our line in 20 minutes early. Luckily, I was still able to get right behind the folks on the rail in front of Jeff – with an awesome view of Ed and Mike.

After first seeing the band live in 1998, going to 25ish shows (which I know is not a lot around here) and being a fan since first hearing Alive – I finally had my life long wish granted of seeing this amazing band up close and personal. For me it was the best Pearl Jam experience ever – but not necessarily the best show I’ve been to - if that makes sense. Being so close it was hard to judge the overall vibe in the building because it was so awesome up front – but the house was packed and the group I was around did not stop bopping their heads and waving their arms until the last note of Ledbetter. Once again I was very lucky to get around another group of awesome 10 Clubbers which always makes it more enjoyable.

Being up front I was waiting for a mad surge when the band came out but it didn’t happen – the slow opener and aging crowd (myself included) helped I’m sure. There was a bit of a surge towards the center during Alive and when Ed came down with the wine bottle – but nothing dangerous. I hope GA is here to stay – I loved the experience!

It was odd not being familiar with a lot of the new material – besides MYM and Sirens (Oh, it will choke you up live if you “get” this song). I did listen to the LB stream once so the other new songs were somewhat familiar. I really loved, I mean LOVED Lightning Bolt live – it’s a rocker! Other personal highlights for me were Of the Girl and Untitled into MFC – and lots of Yield love is always good in my book!

I’m not sure how many more tours these guys have in them (by the looks of them tonight I’d say many more!) But I really went in trying to soak up everything because sadly I know that someday these massive tours will have to end. I went away a fully satisfied fan – PJ just knows how to deliver the goods.

Oh, and as a Pittsburgher it was fun (be it a bit awkward) to see Pirates reliever Jason Grilli pump up the crowd and jump around on stage. That team really had lifted this town spirits the last few months and he is a big fan of the band (did you hear his interview on PJ Radio?). With that said you could see Jeff and Matt laughing at him, not with him because he was so animated and over the top. But if that’s the worst part about a Pearl Jam concert – I’ll take it!

    Enjoy some pics!

I love when people try to dictate how others should enjoy a concert. How standing there with your arms folded, minding your own business and watching the show is a nuisance to others is beyond me. That said, glad to hear it was a great show. I'll probably be a mix between a pylon and a chicken for my two upcoming ga shows. Cant wait.

Seeing as how I got shut out of fan club seats I was in the back lower bowl, and that was honestly one of the loudest yet least into it crowds I have ever seen at a show. Maybe it's because a lot of fan club members are in the pit now? And the outside merch booths screw up the inside supply. The stupid lady at the top of the steps redirected people to other booths and I didn't get a Pittsburgh shirt because of it, not too happy about that. The show blew Wrigley away though. I was surprised how heavy it was on the new material. And it was the best Eddie has sounded in years. I was shocked how much better he sounded last night. The arena also told people they were going on at 7:30 but didn't come on until 8:30. It was billed as "an evening with..." but really it was just as long if not a little shorter than a normal show. So the "evening with" thing isn't as big of a deal as it normally is for anyone else going to any of those shows.

I would also dictate people shouldnt talk in movir theaters. would you diagree? not likely because it is a nusiamce and takes away enjoyment. in fact you would probably wonder if thay wanted to talk why did they come to a movie.

People obviously do whatever they want but It is energy draining to have statues around you and for a ga main floor, I am sorry to say, but it is lame. And a lame crowd can make for a lame show. The band feeds on the energy of the crowd and the crowd feeds on the band's, and their own, energy.

I got MY song finally played in MY city (Given to Fly!). Ed said something to me during Daughter although I have no idea what it was during the "the shades go down" part. I can't speak much for the crowd as I was front row and couldn't see any of the action.

Highlights: Given to Fly, Sirens, Of the Girl, Footsteps.
Lowlights: Rockin' in the Free World (can we retire that one yet?!), Stone Gossard (the guy NEVER looked at the crowd and threw out ZERO picks. YAWN)

In summary: Awesome show! 2nd best show for me of this year, but quite frankly #1 couldn't be topped (Paul McCartney in Brazil? Impossible to beat)

Was it a smoking crowd? I've only seen vids for the new LB songs, but in each one the crowd seemed pretty lame. Was that only during the new songs? If so, I'm hoping the reaction gets better as the tour goes along and people know the new album better.

was a great show!!! flat out a really great show!! the sound mix was amazing. ed sounded in top form.
the new tunes translate well live.

was weird to go into bars and people smoking. been so long since i have been in a bar here in cleveland with smokers. really was like going back in time to the early pearl jam years between that and how rev'd and good sounding the band was.

for what it's worth. who cares how people are enjoying a show. rocking out or taking it in as a religious experience. maybe they are standing and staring in disbelieve at what they are witnessing. maybe they have a bad leg and cant' bounce like a spaz..... what ever. they are there to support the band and keep it a financially viable job for the band.

. what ever..... how ever....... so long as they are not punching me in the eye. who cares. let people enjoy things in what ever way they feel comfortable doing it.

People are going to behave the way they're going to behave... But I care. The level of energy in the crowd has a direct impact on the quality of the entire show. Sometimes they've got it and sometimes they don't, but I always hope that they will because it equals more fun for me!

I can't believe you can still smoke in bars in Pittsburgh. Yuck! I smoke, and I still can't stand to be in a smoky room anymore. Once it's banned, you get used to it so fast, and then allowing it seems kind of appalling.

    yeah
it's crazy how fast you get used to not having the smoke in the bars etc.
still didn't make it a bad time though.

i hear what you are saying about energy. But....... to each their own. a great band will perform great regardless of the crowd, regardless off the size of crowd. that is what separates these guys from the rest

realistically i doubt they see us much or hear all that much of us. they hear their monitors mostly i suspect . also they see us more or less when the lights are not in heir faces and on us.
at least that is how it is most times i am on stage. so the " statues" during songs prolly are not ruining anyones show.

What can I say about the Pittsburgh opener!?! They came out around 8:20-8:30- didn't watch closely. They opened with a new song - every song sounded fking incredible, stunning, unbelievable! Great dedications, request fulfilled, and a great guest! We got to hear unemployable, whipping!!, pendulum, of the girl, infallible, let the records play, speed of sound, and footsteps!!!!! It can't be said enough what a fking night!!! Because I didn't pay attention I'm estimating a 2 1/2 hour show.

Everyone in the band has actually commented extensively on how it's the crowd that really makes a show, and that they feed off of that energy... They certainly try their best at every show, but they readily admit that an energized crowd makes a difference to them, how much they're feelin' it, and to the show overall. I of course take it as it comes (I'm not there screaming at people to get with the program or anything  ), but the more energy a crowd has, the better the show is. I think this is true for every concert in the world, no matter what band it is, but PJ definitely feels that energy and feeds off of it.

Anyway, i've read reports of good crowd moments last night, but not during the new stuff, which is probably to be expected when a tour starts even before the album is officially released.

Also, It was an really awesome set list last night!

  • Fucking great.

Came over from Chicago with a buddy who hadn't seen the band since 1998. He loved it too.

    Show highlights for me:

Untitled/MFC (I had dreams of seeing that combo but didn't think it would happen)
    Whipping
    Porch
    Do the Evolution
    Alive
THE SOUND (so tight, sounded spectacular)
    So many new songs

    Lowlights (there weren't many):
Speed of Sound (not sure why, just kinda killed some momentum)
    Let the Records Play
Rockin in the Free World (I would have correctly predicted the encore if it wasn't played, plus I was digging the 'no covers' setlist.

Loved it, wish I was goin to more shows this fall.
Hey, hey. My, my. Rock and roll can never die.

  • I thought the setlist was awesome. I thought it blew away Wrigley. I felt that even though they played 7 new LB songs, they spaced it out enough that they didn't lose the audience. I think LB sounds awesome and I love Mind Your Manners. ..it gets the adrenaline pumping. Other highlights for me were Footsteps (was on my PJ bucket list), Of the Girl, RVM, and Black. I agree with other posts that if they never play RITFW again I won't shed a tear. They have so much better original music they can play. I also could take or leave Yellow Leadbetter. I would love to have them mix up their final song more.

As for the Jason Grilli thing. . .I predicted to me wife that it would happen and as a Pittsburgher I thought it was pretty awesome. I understand non Pittsburghers probably didn't get it. I felt the same way when they started with the Ernie Banks tribute (All the Way) at Wrigley after the 3 hour weather delay.

Also, the smoking law in Pgh is as follows: it is not allowed unless less than 20% of a restaurant/bar revenues is from food. So if you are a bar that doesn't serve food smoking is permitted. The majority of bars/restaurants in Pgh do not allow smoking.

I feel lucky to have seen PJ last night and I hope they stay healthy and I have many more opportunities to see the greatest band of all time!

As mentioned in a previous post, Footsteps was played before whipping but excluded from the main page.

This was my 18th show and my home town show as well. Thought the crowd was great, high energy and very vocal, except for the new songs. Seemed like the majority of the crowd had never heard any of the new ones before which kind of killed the momentum at times. Energy really picked up in the encore starting with Footsteps.

The new songs sounded great, it's funny that Pendelum was one of the 2-3 songs that just didn't stick out for me off LB but my whole opinion changed after hearing it live. It's a perfect opener and I think it's a better live song than off the album. Let the records play sounded surprisingly good live as well.

As a whole the band was on fire. This seriously might be the best they've ever sounded to me. It was said they were in Pittsburgh for several days rehearsing and you could tell, very few screw ups at all. Pretty flawless performance.

If this show is any indication, I think we are in for a kick ass tour. As the new songs become more popular to the majority of the crowd it will only get better.
  • I loved the show last night! The energy was great (I still have no Voice) and I thought Eddie never sounded better.

And agree with everyone about the late start time. Personally, I loved the idea of no opening band, but if your not going on until 8:20 why not have one?

The highlight for me was FOOTSTEPS and I just got chills thinking about how great that song was!

As a Pittsburger, I LOVED the Jason Grillie part of the show! I thought it was great having him on stage while they played WHIPPPING which is the song that is played when he takes the mound during a game. During the summer, I heard a locker room radio interview where he talked about his love of Pearl Jam and his "dream " to meet them. So I thought it was cool that he finally did. Great moment!

Loved the new songs, ecspecially Lightening Bolt.

    Just a great concert!!
