Personally, i love KOL. Unfortunately for them, they may have suffered the same fate as countless bands before them that apparently stopped being "hip" and "cool" when more than 10 people heard and appreciated their music.
"i walk a mile in your shoes. Now i'm a mile away, and i've got your shoes." good stuff.
"When all your friends and sedatives mean well but make it worse... better find yourself a place to level out."
Saw them last night in San Jose. Solid show. Great song selection. But MAN did the crowd suck! The only time you knew people were alive was when they played "Use Somebody" and "Sex on Fire." The rest of the time it seemed like everyone was just sitting and playing on their phone. I would love to see these guys in a smaller venue.

I saw they were coming to toronto on Monday, but I won't go as I just simply have too many shows to go already. I did try to win tickets, but no luck.

Backtrack in their catalog. First three albums are better, but I did think OBTN was solid and had some good tunes

The mansfield show was mind blowing ! And I can compare it to the last time they were there in 2009!
Caleb is STILL one of the most amazing baratone vocalists , the rest of the band cranks ! "Black thumbnail" is a barn burner and the new special effects on the screens really add a trippy experience without overshadowing the music! Big thumbs up ! Seems the drummer broke his ribs in a bus accident right after my show!

Not sure what I'm hoping for on this album. The last album I loved of theirs was Because of the Times ( one of my fav albums by anyone), and I loved the first 2 as well. OBTN was good for the most part, but Come Around and Mechanical Bull only had 3-4 songs that I loved, with the rest being a bit BLAH.
Still love Caleb's voice, but they need to put together a good ALBUM, and not just a few decent songs

I would give Cone Around more spins. It's solid. Mechanical Bull I listen to the least by far
The End, Radioactive, The Immortals Back Down South, Mi Amigo, Pickup Truck all worthy songs to the catalogue
Im one of those mainstream fucks who love their later albums - even though it feel like they want to repeat the success of Only By the Night with the sound of every album.

I really like The End and The Immortals, don't mind Radioactive, The Face, Pyro and No Money, but the rest are a bit blah for me and Mary and Birthday are dreadfull IMO. This album for me is so laid back it's almost asleep. Even the uptempo songs have no urgency or push about them. Mechanical Bull is similar for me, although Beautiful War is one of my favourite songs of theirs from any era.

I agree Mechanical Bull is weakest but Beautiful War is awesome
I like Mechanical Bull better than Come Around Sundown. While there are solid tracks on it, I think the weaker ones are far weaker. Their biggest issue, for me, is that 95% of their tracks are midtempo blah and I get bored of it too quickly. Excited to see them work with a new producer on this one though.

.... Riot Act?
No - I love Riot Act!! I can see the similarities, but Riot Act has meaning and soul to it IMO, where as Come Around is just a collection of Blah songs

I am one of those people that true KOL fans hate. I love Only By The Night and really couldn't get into their older stuff. Too folky and slow for me. I was hoping Come Around Sundown was more like OBTN, but it wasn't and I've since given up on KOL.

Someone with too much time on their hands pointed out that all of KOL's albums so far have 5 syllables in the title. I'd never noticed that (who would really?), but it raised the question - is the album called Walls, or is that an acronym for another 5 syllable title? Like I said, too much time on their hands!
I'm in the 'fan since YAYM' camp. I saw them a couple of times on their first few UK tours, and a couple of times with PJ in 06. They're one of those bands that I forget how much I like. I can go ages without listening to them, then binge on all the albums in a row in one morning.

Too me... Come Around Sundown was trying to do OBTN all over again. Same smooth sound and production (to my ears). Enjoy both albums. Have a harder time getting through their earlier stuff.

I'm with you - I loved their sound as soon as a friend played me YAYM. Saw them at a Festival when Aha Shake was released, then with PJ in 06 in Australia and then on the Because of the Times Tour (GREAT SHOW). I then saw them on the OBTN tour and was far from impressed. They seem to hate that they now had 13 year olds as fans, due to the success of their stadium friendly new sound (which is what they wanted). Caleb even made a few comments about only half the crowd knowing their first 3 albums. His attitude really put me off them for a while. I haven't been back to see them since, although I think they've only toured Oz 1-2 times since then. I liked OBTN a lot, not as much as their first 3 albums, but still played the hell out of it. Come Around was their first album that did nothing for me. It really sounded like a band that was having issues, no chemistry or spark in the sound. They got a bit back on Mechanical Bull, so I'm keen to hear where they have gone on Walls

@doctorfollowill: Boston, best crowd of the tour. Gonna be tough to beat. Thanks for the love. Can't wait to come back.

Still love Caleb's voice, but they need to put together a good ALBUM, and not just a few decent songs

I'm in the 'fan since YAYM' camp. I saw them a couple of times on their first few UK tours, and a couple of times with PJ in 06. They're one of those bands that I forget how much I like. I can go ages without listening to them, then binge on all the albums in a row in one morning.

“Put yer good money on the sunrise”
(Tim Rogers)
