Didn't see one, so I thought I'd make one. (searched for about a good half an hour so don't kill me if there is one somewhere haha)

Anyways, I've just recently started getting into these guys in the past several months once my friend told me they were coming out with a new record. I'm pretty into their older stuff and a few of their newer songs. I just got their new album too and love it!

Anyone else?

The New album is great. It's like a return to their older material. It's great.

They are a fantastic band. They have this simplicity in their music and lyrics... but between Caleb's super soulful voice, and the band's uncanny knack for melody and placement of licks/effects. Almost TOTALLY different music, but they have a Beach Boys, Pet Sounds- knack for that shit if you ask me.

Anyways... check out Because of the Times... shit is unreal. I picture driving through a desert at night or something. Knocked Up.. what a song.

All their albums are great though. I actually loved Come Around Sundown.
New album continues to grow on me.

Does anyone else think that their single from MB, "Wait for Me" is just a phenomenally beautiful song? I'm falling in love with it. I love the really hard KOL songs, but man this song is really something else...

  • Cannot get enough of the first three albums. The next three not as much. Only by the Night had several good songs. Come Around Sundown was highly disappointing with only a couple decent songs. The new album is awful. Am I really the only one that thinks that? There were three or four songs that after the first listen I would never want to listen to again. Nothing was memorable or made me want to listen again. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if I never put it on again. This is not normal for me either. I tend to give albums multiple listens before giving up. Best example is Radiohead. I really tried but just can't do it. Same with Arcade Fire.

I think their first couple are ok, but really think they came into their own with BotT and OBtN. I feel the exact same as you about the last one and this latest one. Just devoid of any musical evolution and full of songs that blend together too much. I'll probably give it more listens but I don't anticipate my stance changing.

I'm really liking the new album. After really liking their first three - Youth and Young Manhood is my favorite - the next two didn't do much for me. I had very low expectations for this album, but I like 7 or 8 of the 11 songs on it. After listening the new Pearl Jam album once through, I'd say Mechanical Bull is probably better overall.

    They are amazing live.
Caleb has an old school bluesman type voice that is just as solid live.
Having followed this band for some years , I am shocked to announce that yes... The new Cd is the best music the have every produced.
    Tops everything beforehand.
Insanely additive with not a weak song in the entire tracklist.
Most of which will be KOL classics for years.
    That good!!!

I've seen them live and do agree about that but as for the new album...did you get an alternate version than the one I heard? I didn't hear one song that would be considered a classic at all. Very little direction as a whole and almost sounded like a parady of themselves, in my opinion.

While I don't love the album as a whole, there are some pretty awesome songs on it. Temple, Don't Matter, Rock City, Coming Back Again, and oh my god....Wait for Me....is so beautiful....

Well like Ed said in the latest interview with Judd Apatow, sometimes a song means something a little stronger because of where you were or what you were doing when you heard it. For me my fiance was just about to leave across country after only having been home for a couple weeks. Her job is in Arizona and we only get to see each other a few times a year (excluding things like Skype). Maybe that's why I love it so much.

    -DUCKS-

So I got drunk last night and posted on facebook that of the three new albums that I've bought and listened to over the past couple of weeks from bands I love (Placebo, KOL, Pearl Jam) I actually think Placebo's is the best. My husband made a really valid point though, that being that because I love Pearl Jam and KOL SO SO much, I had much higher expectations about those two albums than Placebo's and so therefore Placebo is better in my mind because there were no expectations for it to live up to. I thought that made sense.

Having said that, I love love Mechanical Bull, but my favourite is Because of the Times - and yep, Knocked up is an awesome song! My all time favourite Kings of Leon song is Revelry though. I just love it - takes me to a whole other place when I listen to it.

Now that I have listened to Lightning Bolt several more times, I like it more than I did on my first and second listens - but I honestly don't think it's as good of an album as Mechanical Bull (or Loud Like Love). So I'll join you in ducking for the bullets now!

Hoping they return to Great Woods in Mansfield for a summer show.

I won't likely have the cash for their February date after three PJ shows and the holidays .

I last saw them their on 09/11/09.

    Wow! What a show!

  • I'm actually pleasantly surprised at the setlist they played last night. 27 songs, and a good mix of new old. True Love Way played for the first time in six years. Probably not enough for me to go and see them this month, but if they come back around this summer, maybe. Be anxious to see if they stick to the same set every night, or if they mix it up. They certainly have the catalog to do it.
