Wow, that's stupid of them. Seriously, I would do some research, especially if I was using it as my wedding song.

Being Vitalogy my fav PJ album of all times, and even though I like Better Man, I don't know why people, especially women, are so crazy about that song... what is it about? I mean, woman: can you be so damn fool?

Oh, it’s a fragile thing, this life we lead, if I think too much, I can’t get over
When by the graces, by which we live our lives with death over our shoulders
Want you to know, that should I go, I always loved you, held you high above too
I studied your face, the fear goes away.

I was there when my best friend passed 3 days ago...thank you, PJ

Great song. I know everyone is entitled to their opinion but I swear if PJ released Black now some people on here would say it was shit.

Really looking forward to LB now :D:D

Neither Black nor Ten is great to me, in fact, my first PJ show, I took a piss break during black, it was a long and hot day, I drank a lot, not only booze...

Took me a while to figure out how I feel about this song, but I think I've got it figured out.

This song sounds insanely mainstream, and I find it confusing that PJ would release a song like this. It's like they decided to switch genres completely. I didn't even know that any of them would ever listen to music like this, much less write it themselves.

I think what is kind of saving me from hating this song is EV's voice. It sounds great. If it weren't for that amazing voice, I'm pretty sure I'd think that song sucks. But it is his voice, so the song doesn't suck IMO. But I feel like it's more the 12 year old girl in me - the one that still sings along to "Running Just As Fast As We Can" when it comes on, and then one who thought "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" was a glorious movie because of that Brian Adam's single on the soundtrack. The adult Pearl Jam fan in me is confused. The 12 year old girl, though, thinks it's uplifting, and she will probably want to flounce around the room singing it into an invisible microphone at some point. But I'm not going to let her. :|

Thank you pjsoul! I'm mostly in agreement with you; not really about the "mainstream" comment necessarily, but this song surprised me me as well:) I unfortunately read a comment under the youtube video that said "It's like listening to Bon Jovi" I think it skewed my opinion!! PLEASE NOTE THAT I AM NOT COMPARING THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD TO BON JOVI. It's just that reading that comment and then listening to the song, I was taken aback by the sheer mellowness of it all. Eddie's voice is amazing, as well as Matt's harmonies, and I am in agreement that this saves it. The suddenness of Mike's waytoshort solo (as someone describing it as a siren which fits very well) makes more sense when you see him quickly exchange his acoustic guitar for the electric. I hope to see a kick ass solo live.

Now I have that Brian Adams song stuck in my head, pjsoul!! (I DO IT FOOOR YOU) Wow, Bon jobi, brian adams, I need to duck and cover as some may not read my entire post and just start sending daggers my way!

Love to Pearl Jam, can't wait for the new album, the tour, oh my!!!

I listened a whole lotta times & then got a whole new buzz seeing it with the video. Hard to say before hearing it in context of the album but I like. :)

I'm quite the opposite. While the 17 year old PJ fan in me loved MYM, the 39 year old PJ fan in me appreciates the thoughtfulness and emotion of Sirens. As I listened to it while reading the lyrics, I connected with the song instantly. The trouble with this song is that a few reviewers went online a couple weeks ago and dared to mention Black in the same sentence as Sirens. Alot of people are listening to Sirens with those sorts of expectations.

This...My older self really loves it and my younger self totally digs MYM!

    Awesome!!!!

    Shows a maturing band, evolving.

I starting reading the comments to get a sense of what we are thinking as a community and Veddernarian (on page 2 of 8) nailed it for me. There is something very profound about this song. Maturity. Depth. Patience. Emotion. It really does illustrate that this band is, as Stone said..."Wrapping up the first 20 so we can kick off the next 20". If this is the first we are getting of PJ20+ then we are in for an amazing ride.

This song NAILS it. I can't wait to hear the rest of the record.

PS - Thank you SO much for making this downloadable to those who pre-ordered. Classy move and not one that would technically be required.

    Cheers!

Exactly. Not that it's a bad song or anything because it's not but if I heard this song on the radio and didn't know it was Pearl Jam I probably would have changed the station  I'm sure it will grow on me but after getting MYM as the first single it's quite a change to get a slow song like this. Looking forward to hearing the rest of the album.

I'm not gonna sugar coat it...I hate the arrangement, I may possibly hate the whole dang song. I'm keeping in mind many other songs I hated but then loved so I'm going to give it a few more listens.

Listened to it 3 times back to back already and I think each time I hated it more...(I don't remember ever hating a PJ song on the first listen this much) Reminds of like Meatloaf or something, I dunno it's wimpy sounding perhaps. I mean betterman has spikey balls compared to this. This just doesn't sound like a "PJ" song. Maybe I'll like it better live but I'm secretly hoping I don't get to hear it live now after hearing the video. I was excited when I heard the the title "sirens" sounded interestingly cool. I was imagining something like Lukin hahahha whoa was I off base...lol

Not a real big sinful thing to not like one song, they have hundreds of other greats so please don't hate on me for giving my opinion...I do think I like the lyrics and I know I like the Mc Creadsters solo in it so there are a few "bright spots" lol. I know I do however hate the piano part bigtime not the actual playing but it's insertion into this song.

Go ahead and tell me how crazy I am..I can take a beat down!

Don't be surprised if I love this song someday though, because that does happen with PJ cause I know live they could flip this thing into something totally different. It's gonna have to be a big flip!

Don't people understand that the band has grown up? They're not in their 20s anymore. It's called evolving. If a band doesn't evolve and they keep putting out the same type of song I'd be bored as hell. I really like this one.

It's not evolving. It's devolving into warm vanilla pudding.

Been listening to it multiple times to give it a fair shake but with each listen I get more annoyed.
This is officially my least favorite PJ song ever.

I think a lot of the initial negative responses is just how produced this song/recording is. Were all used to PJ surprising us with different sounds and new writing directions, but I think the production in this song is really throwing people for a loop. Mutliple harmonies high in the mix, lots of piano, multiple guitars all over each channel. PJs recordings have always been very raw sounding, almost like someone just put up a microphone and they played it live. This song sounds very much like a big studio production, which in effect makes it sound very mainstream. Interesting that they would take that direction, definitly not their norm. However that doesnt in and of itself say anything about the song, which I think is very good. As a matter of fact without the up front harmonies, piano, etc. it would probably sound just like what I'm used to hearing from them, but yeah the production quality is making people say it sounds like "Meatloaf" or "November Rain" because it just has that big production sound to it. Ive spent a good deal of time in studios recording and its always interesting to me just how much the way things are mixed can change a song. Anyway, I would have preferred it if this were mixed a little more raw sounding and not so 80's ballad style, but I stll think the song is VERY good. Amazing lyrics, and really impressive singing even by EV standards.

    Yep right on!

Sometimes a band will evolve and put out songs you don't like. Everyone has their own taste in music. Many may love this song and many may not.

Just because you were a huge fan of PJ's music before 2013 doesn't mean you HAVE to be a huge fan of everything they release.

This one is quite a shocker is all. I don't like Bon Jovi or stuff like this.
