Our president just threw the citizens of his own country, congress, and the nations of the world under the bus by saying this decision to act against Syria is our responsibility, not his.
Plus, he said he doesn't need congressional approval. He legally didn't have to get permission to start a war.

If he starts lobbing cruise missles without congressional authorization, I say impeach. He is out of control.

we should have impeached a few scandles ago......I didn't vote for him I'm happy to say

Clinton gets a blow job (big deal)
Nixon gets busted on a few recorded phone calls...
and obama is implicated in the IRS and binghazi mess and then says syria is our responsibility not his, the guy is paving his way to dick-tator-ship.

and the world will hear this false statement...and believe it.

the world holds the views of our elected leaders - as extensions of ourselves.

    rightly so.

  • Soooo, for those unaware, the President CAN do airstrikes w/o Congress declaring an act of war.

The War Powers Resolution requires the President to notify Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces to military action and forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days, with a further 30 day withdrawal period.

Assad Unable To Convince Putin That He Used Chemical Weapons On Syrians
    News • Syria • World • politicians • world leaders • News • ISSUE 49•36 • Sep 4, 2013

MOSCOW—Despite Syrian president Bashar al-Assad’s flat-out admission to the Russian leader that he was responsible for an August 21 chemical weapons attack on a suburban Damascus neighborhood, Russian president Vladimir Putin confirmed Wednesday that al-Assad has yet to provide a convincing case that he carried out the assault. “Given the information I’ve seen at this point, President Assad failed to show me clear, substantiated evidence that he used chemical weapons against the Syrian people, regardless of how many times he says ‘I, Bashar al-Assad, President of Syria, am the one who did this’ while showing me videos of people dying of Sarin poisoning,” said Putin, adding that he remains extremely skeptical despite phone conversations in which a reportedly frustrated Assad repeats, over and over again, the step-by-step account of how he authorized the use of nerve gas to kill over 1,400 people. “We need to know all the facts before we act. I don’t care how many autopsy reports, laboratory tests, or pictures of Assad pressing a button labeled ‘chemical weapons launcher’ he sends me—before we have conclusive proof that he and not the opposition forces did this, we cannot say that Syria is in violation of international law.” Putin went on to confirm that until Assad proves beyond a doubt that he carried out the alleged attack, Russia will continue delivering components of a surface-to-air missile defense system to the Syrian government.

If people actually read the Constitution, they'd understand this.
The last war declared by Congress... World War 2 when they declared War on Japan (German declared War on the U.S. a few days later). Since the Korean War, the Executive Office has been enforcing foriegn policy. The War Powers Resolution came in 1973 so we wouldn't end up with another Viet Nam on our hands.
And even if the President does not receive Congressional approval, he can still use military action to enforce foriegn policy by declaring the action is needed to provide National Security Interests.
    ...
In this case, those National Security Interests are the big investments on Wall Street.

I'm not disagreeing with you one bit. I've been a staunch President Obama supporter since his days in the Illinois Senate, but I do not agree with getting involved in Syria. I do not believe Syria will be another Grenada,Nicaragua, Kosovo, Afghanistan or either Iraq wars, but I'm failing to see how this helps the investments of Wall Street.

apparently, this administration thought chemical weapons would be enough to sway public opinion ... clearly - someone needs to connect syria to 9/11 ... that worked wonders for Iraq ...

not likely ... all one has to do is consider this:

what do the wealthy of the wealthiest want? ... obviously, more wealth and more power ... but at what point does their strategy of fake wars and scheming actually upset their end game? ... WW3 does not benefit these guys ... they wouldn't be able to fly to monaco on weekends ...

no ... it will always be just the way it needs to be ... that is until the people finally wake up but i don't see that happening any time soon ...

It will be contained to the middle east and Africa. It will be interesting if Syria attacks Israel in response to a missile attack.

Actually, I'm confirming what you are saying about the War Powers Resolution. We all hear people saying stuff about stomping on the Constitution, but all of the actions you've pointed out were legal actions... including this current situation regarding Syria.
Personally, I strongly oppose any unilateral military action against Syria. I don't see what the difference is between Assad killing 1,400 peole with Sarin gas or killing 99,000 people with bullets and bombs. This shit has been going on for what... 2 years plus? No one gave a shit about Syria til now.
But, how I feel doesn't matter... neither does your opinion. Our voices don't mean shit... even when we are in the majority.
The voices that matter are the ones who have the money... the big money. Those fewer voices matter more in this world than the combined voices of ours... because, we don't matter. Those rich voices will make the call, not us 99%ers.

I know it's Russia but, here you have it. At least 1 side of it. Lets see what our response is:

  • I cant believe we are going down this path again. I feel bad for the innocent victims in Syria who have been caught in the cross fire, especially the children. But I don't think we should do anything. Don't you think its time America takes care of Americans. How can we lead the world, when the only thing the world sees in us is greed, corruption, war, etc...Individuals losing their jobs and their jobs being sent overseas. Countless of homes in neighborhoods sit empty and abandoned because Americans cant find a decent job. Don't get me wrong, I love my country and served her but what we have been doing since 9/11 is wrong. Its going to be 11 years since we have been in Afghanistan. Went to Iraq for no reason and now its seems we will be headed to Syria. We spent $2 trillion dollars in Iraq...wouldn't that money have been spent better here in education, jobs, infrastructure. And more importantly...the countless of families that will never see their son, brother, sister, mother, father...War has to be the most useless use of human energy.

Once we all heard of the attack, i pointed out on here that it was probably the rebels because it wouldn't surprise me since some (all?) the rebels are linked to al Queda.

However, this is a Russian source, of course they'd say this and of course the US says the gov't did this. We're just gonna have to wait until the UN states their findings.

    I agree.

But imagine if we were the opposite. We were all somewhat-rich, not helping others, not getting in wars, etc; the whole world would see us as lazy, inhumane, and selfish (although some could say we are selfish now).

The world will always try to find something to blame on us and put us down.

I hope we can be war-free, rich, and not aiding everyone. America needs to worry about America, but help those who truly need it.

this is the crux ... your logic makes sense but yet it's not the case ... so, then you have to ask yourself WHY? ... at some point sooner or later ... that myth that america is some beacon of freedom and democracy and the good guy in this world has to be shattered ... i know its hard ... it's like finding out your brother is a serial killer ... but people need to take a step back and see the whole picture ... it should be blatantly obvious now ... your gov't serves corporations ... that's it ... the decisions made historically in panama, guatemala, chile, vietnam, iraq and now syria are all based on economic interests ... it has never been about saving people ...

you could take the money that would be spent on air strikes in syria and build 5 hospitals and schools in africa and you would save 100 x the people ... the images of war are very real and very frightening but don't let it cloud your thoughts ...
