Police in Washington state are searching for two young suspects after a World War II veteran died after being severely beaten in a parking lot Wednesday night.

The Spokane Police Department says in a press release officers responded to reports of an assault Wednesday and found the victim in his car with serious head injuries. He later died in the hospital.

Authorities on Thursday released surveillance photos of the two suspects, who they describe as African-American males between the ages of 16 and 19.

One of two teens charged with beating a World War II veteran to death in a Washington parking lot allegedly claimed he and his pal pummeled the elderly man because of a drug deal gone bad.

Investigators said there was no evidence to support the wild allegation they say Kenan Adams-Kinard, 16, made in a note found when he was arrested in a Spokane basement apartment on Monday after a four-day manhunt.

The teen contended in the handwritten letter that he and Demetrius Glenn, 16, attacked 88-year-old Delbert (Shorty) Belton on Aug. 21, after the man ripped them off during a crack cocaine sale, prosecutors said.

I've never believed in evil. It seems like people use it as an easy way to make sense of disturbing behavior.
