Exactly! What does he do every time he goes to a Pearl Jam show .. stand there rubbernecking at the crowd all night?

I don't know what he means about Sydney 1 either. It was PJ's first show for the Australia tour and I still remember the tension and suspense in the air as the crowd were waiting for them to come on. My heart was beating hard in my chest and then when the boys walked out the crowds screams were piercing my ear drums. As for the rest of the night, I was oblivious to what the crowd were doing.. I was too excited at seeing my favourite band again after nearly 4 years to even notice.

I totally disagree with you. A great crowd can add alot to a show. Especially when it relates to a band like PJ. Listen to San Diego boot or Toronto night 1 or a small town like St. John's NFLD night 1 and you will see what a great crowd can do. None of the OZ shows can hold a flame to any of those shows. The band totally feeds off the energy of the crowd. They always have. And if you are saying that if i were to see an amazing band play and amazing set and there was no or poor crowd response that i would not be or you would not be influenced by it. I thinks thats a crock of shit "MATE".

I think the point I wanna make is regardless of whether or not the original poster enjoyed the shows I know the rest of the crowd did very much. My brother who isnt a big pj fan anymore thought the 2 adelaide shows were awesome and were hes fav shows of the year.

Want to make that clear. These shows just rank lower on my scale from other shows i have seen and the main reason was because of the crowds. The only real exception for me is the Perth show that ranks up there in my top 10 maybe even 5. Maybe I should be more clearer. Western Aussies know how to rock.

    mate
I said bad form about ticket issues not your opinion. Did you or not have an agreement with the guy. and did you or him break it. you were skeptical so you bought others. but he did show and you were not there, letting him down and you cant accept that. thats bad form in my book. you should have let him know beforehand.
    re the shows
I was at syd 1 and I had a ball, fantastic show, many highlights and the crowd well most of em were behind me and the band was in front so the crowd didnt mean much to me. what did was the band and they rocked and seemed to have a great time.
    same at newcastle

numericaly you are going to get more hard core pj fans in place that have millions more people. in OZ we dont have that so the numbers are made up with sometime fans. WHO DONT KNOW THE WORDS TO BABA etc.

The ticket situation surely could have been handled better. I got defensive from all the abuse i was taking for it on the Aussie boards. Some of it very unwarranted. It was just and all round bad situation. But i know i am not the only one to blame in it. That said. What's done is done now.

How big of you to come on Synergy now to bag Australian crowds, just as you did over at lifewasted.net. Sadly, we can't ban your ass from here.

Yeah I wasn't there to see what happened with your ticket situation, but I was at 10/12 of the Oz shows, doing my best to get people motivated. And while on occasion there was a lot of room for improvement, I thought overall the crowds were great. Were you even at Sydney 3?! Ed makes a few references to how impressed the band was. And Brisbane 1 from all reports was absolutely ON.

As for your Melbourne 2 comment, you've got to be kidding me. Ed saying something along the lines of "This is the best Australian crowd so far.." must mean something.

We don't have that big a 10c contingent here, so in the hands of casual fans, naturally we're not going to have the best audience participation in the world. And there's a bit of a cultural difference in terms of big crowds between us and Europe, and even the US. But like I said, I was impressed, and it was a HUGE improvement on 2003.

I just wanna know - was it you who jumped in our row (2nd row, middle) uninvited during the Perth gig? And were those wankers next to you your friends? I had a look at your photo over at LW which is why I'm askin. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I'm right, that's worse crowd behaviour than being a little bit quiet.

You acknowledge you sucked in 2003 and this time you did'nt suck as much. But you still sucked.

Good to see you've picked out some positives here. I'll agree about Perth....I was so proud of our crowd....BUT I didn't see any of the other shows to compare. I knew we'd done well though coz the boys (PJ) really fed off us and the look of awe on Ed's face at times (I was lucky enough to be seated right in front of him), almost brought me to tears.
I understand that you have only come on here stating your opinion, but you must know by now, that bringing any negative opinions to this board is always going to make people defensive....and rightfully so. Us Aussies are a breed unto ourselves. We're a cruisy, laid-back race, who do things a little differently and we're proud of it....having said that.....if you critisize our ways, we're going to defend ourselves. Not many people from other nations understand us, but I feel confident in saying, that from many comments that Ed made during the Aust; leg of the tour, they love our island and our people and so do I :D
You're entitled to your opinion and all I can say is that you should take your experiences in Australia as a life lesson and you'll save money on the next PJ tour, by skipping Australia ;)

You will be lucky if you get another Australian tour and i don't say that to be mean, it just may be highley unlikely. As for people from other nations not understanding you. What a crock. I had a great time in OZ and met some great Aussies and i have nothing bad to say about the places i visited or the people i met. As a Pearl Jam fan i was dissapointed by the crowds at the shows. I have never been to any kind of concert where people sit during the encores in my life. Never been to an opera, but i doubt that even happens there. The fact that you tell me to skip the next OZ tour if there is one only motivates me to come more. I'll be sure to come on the boards and say how crappy most of the crowds were during the 2006 tour in an effort to get you all to prove me wrong. It is actually what i want. Once again please note that Adelaide 1 and Perth were the exceptions for me. And its to bad others don't have the balls to say it because i heard many a people complain about the crowds when i was there.

Agree to disagree then. I hope one day you make it over to Europe, North America or South America to take in a show. If you ever in Toronto, Canada and they play, doubt your interested, but i will take you on me. Anyways do you think ED would actually say "Boy this crowd sucks"? "Damm we wish we were in Seattle"? I mean cmon. Ed has been know to tell may crowds for example that the crowd the night before was better or that tonight's crowd kills last night's crowd. Anyways for all the abuse i am taking. Where is the Aussie pride when it comes to ED cutting up John Howard? He clearly was not joking.....

LMFAO!!!! Of course they'll be back! Especially seeing as though they ended the Aust; leg on such a high. Looks like I'm good at fishing, too. I can throw the line in and get a bite as well :D (to quote you -"The fact that you tell me to skip the next OZ tour if there is one only motivates me to come more.") Hope you do come back next tour, but at least you won't be shocked if we don't fullfill your crowd expectations. Like I said before, you can't come on here with a negative opinion and not expect everyone to get their heckles up.....but I think that's really what you were aiming for. I can't believe I'm actually watching this thread..... I have 3 children that I have to put up with squabbling like this every day and they are the same....they have their own oppinions that the other one isn't willing to accept.
At the risk of copping it myself....I can see both sides....I hated the 2003 crowd at Burswood, but it didn't worry me so much that I came on here stirring them up about it, coz I still ran as much of a muck as I did with the great crowd at Subiaco Oval 2006. That's why this thread is so funny....if you know that you had a great time and screamed, sung, jumped, danced etc; etc; this thread isn't having a dig at you....it's at the one's that didn't go and enjoy themselves....and well....that's their loss anyhoo.

MM Mate! I don't know any Aussies who like John Howard....no pride for that little wanker....IMO!

I wasn't there but Ed DID have a jibe at the Sydney 2 crowd referring to it as like being in church. He then kind of apologised saying Hey I realise you have a lot of other acts in your country apart from us this month (referring to U2, Kylie Minogue, Bill Joel etc). And yes, I heard the John Howard jokes he made down in Melbourne (it's on the boots) and thought they were hilarious .. especially the crotch grab by Ed. :)

Yeah....he had a go at John Howard in 2003 as well....at least half the crowd didn't get up and leave though!!!:D

Eddie Vedder can have a go at John Howard any time he likes and I would agree with him. I was expecting him to say some stuff about him at the Sydney shows I went to but unfortunately he didn't. If you listen to the Melbourne boot (the banana incident) carefully you can hear a few people in the crowd booing him.. which makes it even more funnier. :)

Well Ed's very good mates with Mark Richards by the sounds of things, so I am predicting if he were going to get a beach shack in Australia it would be in the Newcastle or maybe Sydney area... So you'll have to come over to NSW instead. :)

Yeah and when he says at Sydney 7/11/2006 "I don't think we've ever met an Australian we didn't like, but I'm sure there's some real fucking assholes out there"etc; etc - you can hear some guy in the audience yell out "JOHN HOWARD!!"

No.. none of my family is from Perth .. we're all from Victoria actually. It's just that my sister and I have had turns living in Perth. Apparently my sis and her husband made a nice little profit on the house they built there and have moved back to Victoria.

  • some points to ponder for O_G_D:

    1) to come on here and parade around as if no-one knew that europe and US crowds were better than australian crowds is pretty pointless. it is well known that they are better crowds - they have more 'diehard' fans there and have a different culture which is reflected in the crowds. having said that, i don't think i spoke to an australian attendee at any of the shows that didn't rate it as one of the best shows they'd seen. the band really enjoyed the shows, and mike said that they love coming here to play shows because of "laid back feel of the whole place". so you have intense shows in some parts, and chilled shows in others. big deal. because we aren't as 'loud' as some of the europe crowds is nothing new... and, to be honest, the crowds at some of the europe shows were - from all accounts - far too 'over the top' and detracted from the show.

    2) you have mentioned many times that you met a lot of great aussie folks who were very warm and welcoming on the tour. keep up this garbage and you will find yourself a few friends less the next time they come to our country and rock the fuck out of us. in fact, don't come back - we'll all be 2 seats closer next time.

    peace.

I was truly and utterly dissapointed in the crowds down under which actually led to me seeing less shows than i planned on seeing. I mean they really really sucked and there is no way of trying to be nice about saying that.

What a load of f'ing bullshit. Aussies crowds have always been fantastic just because people sit down does not mean that are less of a fan. I went to all three Melbourne shows as I have always done and the shows were brilliant. The band were on fire and the crowds were right into it. Next time Pearl Jam tour Australia (and they will because they love our crowds) you can fucking stay away wanker. "Sorry there is no way of trying to be nice about saying that"
Ben, the two of us need look no more

    Nothing changes...torture then reward
