Definate NAY here. I really thought they sucked the big one pretty bad. Sitting down during encores, crossing there legs barley making any noise.

  • i dont know what show or shows u went to, i dont think the bootlegs do the crowds justice, i went to all 3 Melbourne shows and apart from a slow start at Melb 1 i thought the crowds were good and the band took to heart that many times during the shows.

there were ppl sittin down but thats the nature of Australians, some ppl feel more comfortable sittin, doesnt mean they arent makin noise, however havin said that Aussie's like their hit songs and many ppl were there just to hear them and knowing PJ is a great live band.

i have no problem with how people want to enjoy their music... i went to melb 1 and besides a few quiet ones it didn't affect my concert experience and i surely don't feel less pumped listening to the boot

tim... adelaide 1 is the shiznite :D

i see you're from toronto... may 10 is one of my fave boots

The band really fed of the crowd that night. There were a few exceptions in OZ where the crowds were a little bit more loud, but still overall they compare nothing to a North American Crowd, European or South American Crowd. I was truly and utterly dissapointed in the crowds down under which actually led to me seeing less shows than i planned on seeing. I mean they really really sucked and there is no way of trying to be nice about saying that.

Aussies love going to festivals or seeing bands .We got 12 concerts which was great and the fans loved it.Not everyone were diehard fans but from all the shows i went to everyone were going off.In general the music tastes of the broad australian population is much more rockin' than most places in the world -so i say yay!

Just stating my opinion that as far as "PEARL JAM SHOWS" go, the Aussie Crowds are the worst i have seen anwhere. In fact i met many Aussies that agreed with that fact. So stick that in your didgeridoo and smoke it.

Look how you treat your aboriginals? We in Canada are not perfect when it comes to this either, but were miles ahead of you.

And can't state how many Aussies and locals treated me like shit because they thought i was American. When i stated i was Canadian i was treated much differently. I became quite defensive of my neighbours to the South whom i don't see eye to eye with all the time, but it made me sick to see how they were treated down under as if they were all in bed with Bush. Pearl Jam are clearly anti bush, but they are not anti american. And i think if they knew how poorly you treat Americans they would not be so obliged to visit your country.

It sounds like you are coming to these boards just to stir up trouble. I don't care what country you're from actually ... that's not the issue here. I read some stories about you ripping people off, and don't like how you generalise about the Australian audiences.. .

Im just back home yesterday and first time on any of these boards in a while and i see myself getting ripped by one guy that says i ripped him off. Well the story is not as black and white as he would have it seem. That board been goin on for a while and he is the only one i did commit to buying a ticket off of for the first show. We were to meet before the day of the show and then i got a message saying he would not be there until just before the show and may be running a little late even because of his flight. People were selling excellent seats well before face value so i became skeptical. And if you read that dude's story it was his own friend that stiffed him out first so it should be he's responsibiltiy. I don't see him ripping his friend.

    I say Australian audiences yay.

We are laid back people, we enjoy things in different ways. Sometimes, we like to pay money to hear the band play, not hear the audience sing etc.. Of course i am generalising here. But that kinda seems to be the trend with us aussie's ...

and at least people in australia don't seem to get crushed to death for the love of their band.. sometimes it's good to be a laid back crowd.

But yes, i have never been to a show overseas, would love to though!

I have seen shows in America and Australia.. and ofocurse the shows in America had better crowds thats just how things are. All I can say is Adelaide 1 was a sensational crowd compared to the other shows in Aust I have seen. I do agree that Aussies crowds are the worse but this is the case with all bands.

Adelaide 1 was a very good crowd I thought still...

  • They don't suck. It's not a case of there being complete silence during the chorus of Baba O'Riley, but they're not constantly singing. Not bad, but not a patch on Milan, Madrid, Berlin, Bern or Dublin. Must be down to the seated thing.
  • the stories i have heard about OGD seem to reflected in the idiotic nature of his post.

  • Couldn't afford the time or money to head over East for any shows, but can honestly say the crowd in the 10c section where I was sitting at Subiaco Oval, was UNBELIEVABLE!!!! And you could see that Ed thought the same.
And.... to quote the quote in E.K.'s signature..."I don't think we've ever met an Australian we didn't like" - EV - Sydney, 7/11/2006

Forfucks sake, this is so aggravating.
Look, O_G_D just expressed an opinion, ok? An opinion. The guy didn't say "All Austrailians are horrible people". If you disagree, say that, then say why, if you really feel the need, question the poster's statement, don't attack them just because you disagree. Discourse, look it up.

There's more to it though. There's an Australian PJ Board he has been posting on as well.. and the comments there are not nice.

As far as sitting down during encores.. what's wrong with that? I had to at Sydney 1, because I had 14th row on the floor and after 1 1/2 hours of jumping around like nutter had to sit down for a rest or I would have fallen down.

    It seems ogd
that you did agree to meet somebody and purchase a ticket. you then left that guy holding the ticket and loosing his hard earned $$$. You could not even apologise. instead you ripped into the aussie crowds on lifewasted then brought it back here to these boards.
Bad form mate. no class at all.
and crowds well really. when i go to shows its my iteraction with the band, how much I go off, my mates as well. how much fun we have. the crowd around me usually is going off.
why concentrate on the crowd. the band are the ones paid to perform you know. not the crowd.
unless you have only ten club shows where everyone knows all the words you are gunna get sometime fans who know the hits only.

not knowing the words to baba really who cares. songs like this and crown of thorns etc are for us the core fans. maybe if pj only played the hits we would have sing alongs like you want. give me the rare songs- the great songs that arnt on the radio, play em differently make it special. I was honoured that newcastle ( my home) was given such a special night ( honoured that a freind was given the chance to write the setlist and he delivered so well)
at newy ed was saying it was more like a party than a show and a lot of people there didnt know half of what was played. PJ loved the room that night.
I say aussie crowds were yay because I HAD THE GREATEST 2 NITES OF MY life and sydney 1 was 1 of them newy was the other.
you ogd are entitled to an opinion, but maybe it shouldnt be coloured by agro you are having with aussies at present.

    POST 666 BEWARE

If you read the whole story you will see that it is his good friend that stiffed him out to begin with. Secondly i was supposed to meet this guy for the ticket that day before the show and then he calls and leaves a message saying he is flying into Sydney and if on time will be making it just before the show. So i became skeptical and went elsewhere for the ticket and i accepted partial blame for this. Not that i feel utterly terrible to be honest as i bought a ticket that night for under 50 Aussie dollars as people were desperate to get rid of them. And as for the crowds "THEY REALLY SUCKED" IMO. This is not at all a knock on the Aussie people as clearly you are taking it as. This is based on my experience at Pearl Jam shows all around the world and the Aussie crowds are by far the worst i have ever seen. I can link you clips on You Tube to illustrate this fact. There are many people that i met that travelled from far and wide that also agreed whole heartedly with this fact. Does not mean they did not have fun or enjoy themselves, but it could have been better with a more lively crowd. Perth and Adelaide 1 are the only exceptions from the shows i seen. Sydney 1 could have been a funeral same with Melb 2. And even the shows that people claim the fans were loud are nowhere in comparison to what i have seen. Perth was the Loudest show of the Tour IMO and i think you could tell that the band was finally enjoying the crowd moreso than anyother show on the tour. And i don't recall ever complaing about people not knowing the words, but i did complain at the stupid crowds sitting down and crossing there legs during encore breaks and not making any noise at all. You say bad form and no class to me. If you were one of the idiots that did that during an encore than i say the same to you. Thank God Pearl Jam are such professionals. most bands would not even come back out after those shitty crowd responses for an encore.

  • I go to a Pearl Jam concert to watch and listen to Pearl Jam play....
Not analyse what other strangers in the crowd are doing...
I think most other Aussies do the same...

Maybe its you O_G_D that needs to have a look at yourself during a concert... Stop worrying/complaining about others on the night and just watch the best band in the world play..
You dont give blood, and take it back again!

Exactly! What does he do every time he goes to a Pearl Jam show .. stand there rubbernecking at the crowd all night?

I don't know what he means about Sydney 1 either. It was PJ's first show for the Australia tour and I still remember the tension and suspense in the air as the crowd were waiting for them to come on. My heart was beating hard in my chest and then when the boys walked out the crowds screams were piercing my ear drums. As for the rest of the night, I was oblivious to what the crowd were doing.. I was too excited at seeing my favourite band again after nearly 4 years to even notice.

Good to see you've picked out some positives here. I'll agree about Perth....I was so proud of our crowd....BUT I didn't see any of the other shows to compare. I knew we'd done well though coz the boys (PJ) really fed off us and the look of awe on Ed's face at times (I was lucky enough to be seated right in front of him), almost brought me to tears.
I understand that you have only come on here stating your opinion, but you must know by now, that bringing any negative opinions to this board is always going to make people defensive....and rightfully so. Us Aussies are a breed unto ourselves. We're a cruisy, laid-back race, who do things a little differently and we're proud of it....having said that.....if you critisize our ways, we're going to defend ourselves. Not many people from other nations understand us, but I feel confident in saying, that from many comments that Ed made during the Aust; leg of the tour, they love our island and our people and so do I :D
You're entitled to your opinion and all I can say is that you should take your experiences in Australia as a life lesson and you'll save money on the next PJ tour, by skipping Australia ;)

How big of you to come on Synergy now to bag Australian crowds, just as you did over at lifewasted.net. Sadly, we can't ban your ass from here.

Yeah I wasn't there to see what happened with your ticket situation, but I was at 10/12 of the Oz shows, doing my best to get people motivated. And while on occasion there was a lot of room for improvement, I thought overall the crowds were great. Were you even at Sydney 3?! Ed makes a few references to how impressed the band was. And Brisbane 1 from all reports was absolutely ON.

As for your Melbourne 2 comment, you've got to be kidding me. Ed saying something along the lines of "This is the best Australian crowd so far.." must mean something.

We don't have that big a 10c contingent here, so in the hands of casual fans, naturally we're not going to have the best audience participation in the world. And there's a bit of a cultural difference in terms of big crowds between us and Europe, and even the US. But like I said, I was impressed, and it was a HUGE improvement on 2003.

I just wanna know - was it you who jumped in our row (2nd row, middle) uninvited during the Perth gig? And were those wankers next to you your friends? I had a look at your photo over at LW which is why I'm askin. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I'm right, that's worse crowd behaviour than being a little bit quiet.

I think the point I wanna make is regardless of whether or not the original poster enjoyed the shows I know the rest of the crowd did very much. My brother who isnt a big pj fan anymore thought the 2 adelaide shows were awesome and were hes fav shows of the year.
I'm just flying around the other side of the world to say I love you

    mate
I said bad form about ticket issues not your opinion. Did you or not have an agreement with the guy. and did you or him break it. you were skeptical so you bought others. but he did show and you were not there, letting him down and you cant accept that. thats bad form in my book. you should have let him know beforehand.
    re the shows
I was at syd 1 and I had a ball, fantastic show, many highlights and the crowd well most of em were behind me and the band was in front so the crowd didnt mean much to me. what did was the band and they rocked and seemed to have a great time.
    same at newcastle

numericaly you are going to get more hard core pj fans in place that have millions more people. in OZ we dont have that so the numbers are made up with sometime fans. WHO DONT KNOW THE WORDS TO BABA etc.
