I am really fucking giddy about this show. At this point I have tickets for Worcester night 2, both Brooklyn and this. I am most excited and have a fantastic feeling about Hartford. Can't say why.

Any locals here who are familiar with the Ferries??

Looking into a cross Long Island Sound Ferry for
    both me and my car.
Question is, which destination would be easier,
Bridgeport or New London? Thanks !

From the Rockaways? Throgs Neck or Whitestone Bridges. Why would you waste your time and money hiking east?

But definitely Bridgeport Port Jefferson. New London is high speed, but it will take you an extra hour winding through 2 lane highways to get to/from Greenport. Plus you are WAY too far east going to Hartford from New London.

Even getting to/from Port Jeff, you are winding up Route 25. It will take you longer than the miles it appears.
Depending on the time of the day, it might be easier to go 95 south from new London to rte 9 north than coming from Bridgeport on a Friday. I'm assuming Bridgeport would be 95 N to 91N?

Yeah, but getting to Port Jeff is a bitch and Greenport is even worse. Both 2 lane "highways" with lots of lights winding through town after town. It's not the Ct side that's a problem. Plus, they really aren't cheap for a car. Port Jeff Ferry is also an 1:15 minute ride. You dont really save any time taking those unless you live near them.

Edit: and you have to arrive early for loading. I live east and go to Ct all the time for family, and I never take the ferry anymore.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

I was saying the same thing, how Hartford seemed the most anticipated show of the fall!

You'd be behind the stage for that and even a little to the side of it. I had basketball seats in 240 and they were not bad at all.

I'd have to go back and check my pictures if I took any of that section.

Edson and Lloyd- thanks for the advice.

The last time I drove up to Hartford for a Bruce show ,
it was a complete clusterfuck with construction on ( I assume 95- don't really remember )
I figured if I left early enough in the day on a Friday , the ferry might be better.
I used the Orient Point Ferry when I went up to Mansfield in 2008, that worked out very well.

95 is always a clusterfuck. You'd be better off taking 84.

Yeah, if you want to avoid 95, take the Whitestone to the Hutch (avoid the 95 bottleneck from merge to Hutch exit) to 684 to 84. It's about 15-20 miles longer than either Hutch/Merritt or 95, but 684 is the fastest 30 miles you'll ever drive in the Northeast.

BTW, you can also avoid 95 by taking 15 (Hutch/Merritt/Wilbur Cross - it changes names, but is same highway) to 91. No trucks. It is only 2 lanes each way, so if there's an issue, it can be a disaster, but that is rare. You can also take 95 to Route 8 to the Merritt (you pu 8 in Bridgeport) Route 8 is a pretty good speedway, also. It's shorter than 684, but similar in the speed you can go.

If you take the ferry on a Friday, you might need a reservation. October won't be as bad as summer, but folks do use it to commute believe it or not.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.
  • Coming into New London on the ferry, you could also bypass Rt. 9/I-95 completely if you take Rt. 32 to I-395N and pick up Rt. 2 W into Hartford. About 50 mins no traffic.

I'd always recommend avoiding I-95 if you can. Tho it may not be as bad in October without beach traffic... but the drive on I-395 / Route 2 is tit. You won't hit traffic till you get to Hartford and then you'll only have a few exits to go.

Again - the issue isn't Connecticut. Getting to Greenport on Long Island is a 2 lane highway with traffic lights winding through tiny towns for 45 minutes (after you've already been sitting on the LIE for over an hour from the Rockaways). It is not pleasant if you're not actually spending time or living on the North Fork. Yes, once you get there, the high speed ferry and the ride in CT (though even that to start - Rt 32 is a bit of no fun) is fine. But, from the Rockaways, it's probably taken you as long to get to Greenport as it would just shooting up the Cross Island Parkway to the Bridge and sitting in a bit of traffic (let alone then having to take a 40 minute ferry to a 50 minute drive).

When I first moved back to Long Island, my wife (fiancé at the time) was still living in Windsor. Every Friday afternoon, I'd take a 3 hour traffic filled musical tour rather than try to wind my way to one of the ferries. Traffic sucks. The problem is, on Long Island, no matter where you go on a Friday afternoon, there is traffic. So, you might as well head in the direction you need to go.

And, don't get me wrong. On a nice crisp, early fall day, the ferry rides are beautiful. And if you share the ride (i.e not driving yourself), Port Jeff has a bar on board. Port Jeff is also a beautiful little village to hang out in for a bit (Bridgeport - not so much  ). So, if this is why you are taking one of the ferries, do Port Jeff-Bridgeport. But, time wise, you are costing yourself (don't forget to show up a half hour early for loading the cars!).
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.
  • Just figured I'd give ya some input from this end... since I'm near New London. I deff. think I395 - Rt2 is the better way to go than I95 - Rt9

I must say driving to CT on a Friday makes me happy for the first time ever that I work in Westchester (so that I am already 40 minutes closer to the venue from NYC)

That's what half days are made for - leave by noon/1PM and you'll have very few issues in early fall.

I got the same question. I took i95 up in 2011 for Ed's show, the traffic wasn't too bad. I am guessing the fall will be better. So I have been looking at food places in harftord. I guess the biggest question is if I should stop at woody's or doogie's for hot dogs?

Doing the same for Worcester 1. I hope getting there at 3 pm won't be too late.
