I'm pretty sure they won't even need to turn the lights on at Wrigley. The glow from 20,000 phones should be bright enough! :fp:

I don't mind people taking (or trying to) a pic here and there, but for godsakes...you just spent $200+ to get tickets...and you want to watch the show from the 3.5 inch screen on your phone?!?!

I'm thinking of making a game out it at the next show I attend. Bring a suction cup gun with a ton of darts and see how many phones you can hit.

Instead of the glare of 20,000 phones lighting the venue...now we'll have 10,000 phones completely worthless by the end of the night, and another 10,000 still up in the air but in a ziplock baggie.
Can't wait to watch crappy Youtube videos from phones in plastic baggies! As if it couldn't get worse!

I don't really use my phone during shows (maybe a few pics, and maybe 1 minute of video), but they don't bother me. I couldn't care less if some people are holding them up as long as it's not right in front of my face. I don't give a shit how other people are or are not taking in the show, and I don't find some tiny little screens scattered in the crowd distracting at all - if one can be so easily distracted by that when there is a big concert going on, then either they need to work on their attention skills, or the concert sucks. I say film away. I always appreciate that there are youtube vids of the show I went to posted, and I don't have to do anything. Good deal.

I completely agree that having all those lit up displays facing your direction is annoying and distracting.

That being said I don't think they can do anything about it. It was different back when people tried to sneak in disposable cameras (or a real camera). They could confiscate it and you were out maybe $10 bux or rip out the film and you were out $3 or $4.

Smartphones really caught one. I think the majority of people under 40 have one? They're worth hundreds of dollars and its a device that everyone keeps on their person most of the time. They can't really ask people to toss them into a bin or something.... people would shit a brick

As much as it sucks I don't think Arena sized venues can do much to combat it.

It's great to be able to watch the shows on youtube. I watch/listen to PJ concert vids all the time. I think that people bother to film is fantastic as long as I don't have to do it. I see much less point in taking photos unless they're of your friends enjoying the show. Photos of concerts are NEVER anywhere near as cool looking as it looked in person.

I think performers just need to get over it. I don't understand why it bothers people so much, really. It's not like it makes a dark room bright or anything. There are laser and flashing lights and giant screens and screaming people and all kinds of shit going on, so how can some teensy little lights scattered in the crowd be bothersome? It's like being bothered by a mosquito during a locust plague.

Nah, just kidding. I don't even have a smartphone and I saw you in Berlin, in the corner, standing with your hat on. We even spoke, but hell, that was long ago. Way too long ago. Need a European tour, soon!

This was not the case with Ed's solo shows. People's flashes and cameras really lit up the room and was a big distraction. Not as big as the security running through the isles to yell at the people with phones, but it was a distraction.

I guess my point is that if someone takes their phone out and snaps a few picks I don't care. Even if they come out like shit. It's more annoying to have someone stand in front of you videotaping frequently throughout a show. Especially if it obstructs your view. That being said, I am guilty of trying it a few years back, but found myself regretting watching great songs through lens of a camera. To each their own though
