Remember it was the Africans them self that sold there own people to America to BE SLAVES... :fp:

Were you off sick from school on the day they taught you about the slave trade?

Then again, didn't you tell us that this subject was all you were taught for six years? Funny that after six years of being taught this subject that you still don't know anything about it.

Firstly, Africa isn't, and never was, a country. Secondly, before Europeans began colonizing West Africa the slave trade was largely consigned to East Africa, and was conducted by Arabs who controlled much of the area along the Horn of Africa, and transported them to the Middle East.
As for the Atlantic slave trade, this would never have occurred if Europeans hadn't begun flooding the interior of Africa with guns during the 16th-17th centuries and establishing trading routes into the interior, stoking tribal conflicts and then reaping the rewards. The majority of people sold as slaves were prisoners of war, and therefore outsiders to those doing the selling, a situation common in much of the World. And as for selling their own people, they were no more selling 'their own' than Europeans were 'killing their own' during the Holocaust.

Then again, so what? Does the fact that Africans played a part in this massive crime mean that you can wash your hands of it? Can the Nazis wash their hands of the holocaust due to the fact that some French played a part in it by rounding up and transporting Jews East to the concentration camps?

I don't have to wash my hand....I was never involved! Move on.....
by the way I was NEVER taught that anyone had slaves except white Americans....that is all they taught back in my day.....

don't know why but I thought of this song as I continually read this thread

    Uh-uh-uh uh, uh, uh-uh uh-uh-uh
    Johnny's in America
    No tricks at the wheel
    Uh-uh-uh uh, uh, uh-uh uh-uh-uh
    Nobody needs anyone
    They don't even just pretend
    Uh-uh-uh uh, uh, uh-uh uh-uh-uh
    Johnny's in America

    [CHORUS]
    I'm afraid of Americans
    I'm afraid of the world
    I'm afraid I can't help it
    I'm afraid I can't
    I'm afraid of Americans

    Johnny's in America
    Uh-uh-uh uh, uh, uh-uh uh-uh-uh

    Johnny wants a plane
Johnny wants to suck on a Coke
    Johnny wants a woman
Johnny wants to think of a joke
    Uh-uh-uh uh, uh, uh-uh uh-uh-uh
    Johnny's in America
    Uh-uh-uh uh, uh, uh-uh uh-uh-uh

    [CHORUS]

    I'm afraid of Americans
    Uh-uh-uh uh, uh, uh-uh uh-uh-uh

    Johnny's in America
Johnny looks up at the stars
    Johnny combs his hair
And Johnny wants pussy in cars
    Johnny's in America, uh-uh-uh uh, uh, uh-uh uh-uh-uh
    I'm afraid of Americans

    God is an American
    God is an American

    [CHORUS]
    Yeah, I'm afraid of Americans
    I'm afraid of the words
    I'm afraid I can't help it
    I'm afraid I can't
    I'm afraid of Americans

    Johnny's an American
    Johnny's an American
    Johnny's an American, uh-uh-uh uh, uh, uh-uh uh-uh-uh

But that does not mean you cannot learn anything, just because you are no longer in school, right? I mean, just because you learned in in school, doesn't mean it's true, right?
And you are talking about thing they taught us in elementry school. In High School, there were teachers that taught us the truth about world history... our history... that didn't fit into the Disney version where we always wear the white hats. That is, unless you were in High School in the 1950s.
Again, your education does not stop once you leave High School. Your parents and teacher lie to you, not because they are evil or bad... they lied to you because the truth is too often cold and hard and ugly. Those who continue to believe those lies for comfort reason are only fooling themselves. They become the perfect idiots for politicians to manipulate.

He isn't perfect, nobody is. But from my experience in two of his classes, he does a fairly good job of keeping it even.

Yeah, some are better than others (and some are better than others at just making it seem that way). Anyway, I remember realizing in school that too many of my professors were teaching from a Marxist viewpoint, and most of them I don't think even realized it themselves. After that, I started to really think about it in every class I took to make sure that I was taking whatever they said with a grain of salt and then considering the alternatives (it made school more work though  )

Funny you say that, I had an English professor that came out and told us on the first day "I'm a Marxist and I vote for the Communist Party. If that's a problem with you, change classes..."

    Cool!
I don't even have a problem with the Marxist viewpoint - I'm pretty much a socialist myself. I just didn't like that I was being taught from a biased perspective (one way or another... obviously all the business majors are getting it from the opposite side of the coin), and it annoyed me to discover that that is pretty much how it goes in university... Just have to hope that there are a enough people with enough brains to work through it without being brainwashed by a bunch of their teachers.

um, I was responding to YOUR comment about Christianity. there's nothing personal about my post at all.

how about you address the post instead of just calling it bullshit? that's all you do. you mock a thread topic with your smileys and emoticons, but really say nothing of substance except to excuse your own bigotry. if you have any points to make or any posts to address intelligently, please do so and we can go from there.

well then let me ask you,i think you live in Canada right ? do feel comfortable around the muslim areas in Canada ? don't you even think about terrorism and these groups ?
I realize asking anybody these questions on the AMT might be asking a lot of most of you but seriously do you ever think about it when you drive past a muslin church in Canada ? or anybody anywhere on the AMT can honestly tell me that thought does not cross your mind while passing any muslim organisation or church ?

.... Are you expecting him to say that he feels nervous about terrorism or being around terrorists in Canadian areas with a large Muslim population???? .... I seriously doubt you're going to find the answer you're looking for!
    :fp:

I went on a really nice walk in Golden Ears Provincial Park on Sunday with my mom. There was a lot of Muslim families there (we did notice because there were several large groups of adults and children, and many smaller Muslim families as well), and mentioned that it must be a favorite recreation spot (aka out of the way place to plot and scheme) among Vancouver's Muslim community), and I can tell you, when we kept passing them on the trail to and from the waterfall, I was seriously quaking in my hiking boots. I'm pretty sure a few of them had bombs in those light backpacks, and not light picnic lunches, as they'd like to have us believe. Of course they were very friendly when we exchanged the 'hiker's hello' when passing them all, but I'm sure that's just a part of the ruse. Boy, was I ever relieved when we made it back to the car alive!
