Got through 2/3 of it streaming before I had to leave for work. LAst song I heard was a keeper! Havent a clue which one it was, but none of it sucked so far.
Probably comeback story great song album is really a winner think they've performed 4 at the iTunes festival can't wait to hear the rest of the songs live.
If Lightning Bolt is anywhere near as good as this album I will be a happy man.
The songs I've heard off of LB make it better than the new KOL already.
Going by the hype in this thread, Mechanical Bull is a big disappointment to me. Another album of meandering lackluster tunes.
I've always enjoyed reading your opinions on music that is talked about here. I also agree that the Kings always seem to put out "incomplete" albums, always a song or two that just doesn't seem to fit. However, I strongly disagree with you on this point. Supersoaker runs circles around Mind Your Manners, and Sirens......well take out the vocals and it will be hard to tell the difference between it and stock elevator music. I have not heard any other LB songs as of yet however....
Wide range of reactions here. I just personally think this is their best album since Because of the Times. The last two were atrocious.
I agree with this. On first listen I automatically thought it was better than the last one, and after another listen I think it is probably better, as a whole, than Only By the Night too.
Some of it I really like, but as someone else said it is a similar tempo from beginning to end, not sure if that is really all that bad though. I'll need a few more listens, but overall I'd say I'm happy with it.
My only other gripe is that some of the songs remind me WAY too much of older songs. The initial breakdown in the chorus of Tonight reminds me of instantly of another song (Immortals maybe?) and the guitar in one other song really reminds me of the bonus track from the last one, Celebration (which is actually a good song). Just my thoughts.
Yeah but for me, the fact that they are going back to the old style means they are on the right track. If PJ came out with an album that sounded like Ten or Vs. Some people on here would explode, ha.
Between this, PJ, Arcade Fire and more... It's going to be a hell of a fall.

I think it is, when you have a really limited range of sounds. It makes songs run together and hard to remember which part goes with which song. Most albums I gravitate towards have quite a bit of dynamic range, but it isn't totally necessary when there's more variety.

This sounds alot like their last album and, to me, that doesn't sound much at all like their first few albums.
Listening to it now. Almost through my first listen and I'm really diggin it. Best album by KoL since Because of the Times.

I was highly anticipating this album after hearing Supersoaker and Wait for Me, thinking that we may have an album with some hint of their earlier work and BOTT - Whilst it is definitely better than the last album, it is very similar to bot the last 2 albums.
I don't dislike it - I will listen to it, but nowhere near the album I thought it might be - very middle ground and mild tempo offering. 2-4 very good songs and a lot of so so filler

After being disappointed by their last two albums I wasn't expecting much but I'm surprised at how good it is. First listen but yeah, better if not a complete return to form
I streamed the album a few times on iTunes last week so I knew what to expect, but listening again today it's a great listen. I've liked all their albums, and this one is certainly no exception. Good stuff.
The more I listen the better this album gets. Its taking some time, but each song is beginning to stand on its own. Rock City, Beautiful War, Wait for Me, Supersoaker, Comeback Story, Family Tree.........good stuff here people.
wow this album is awesome. by far their best since Because of the times....and that's coming from a guy who loved come around sundown.....but this new album has a lot of great tunes on it.
Half way through, very good album- sounds like the older stuff (A-ha, Youth and young manhood, Because of the times).
My faves:
rock city
Beautiful war
Comeback story

Yup....Family Tree is funky as shit. And Comeback Story right after it is damn great. Love the line "I walk a mile in your shoes. Now I'm a mile away......and I got your shoes." So simple but I love it for some reason, ha.
Also digging Work On Me a lot also. It was one of the songs that is on the deluxe cd.

They also sounded fantastic at Global Citizen Festival on Sat. Very new song/hit heavy (short set), but was awesome to finally see them live. I need to catch a full show of theirs soon!
