New song going around today called Beautiful War is excellent. Apparently Caleb initially wrote it the same weekend he wrote Use Somebody, and it was re-worked for this album after no one liked it back then. I really enjoy it, along with the few other new ones I've heard, and I haven't been the biggest fan of their recent albums.
    Where can I find this?
  • You can listen to all the new songs they did for their Radio 1 Maida Vale session here:

I'm really liking the vibe of this new record from what I've heard, reminds me of Because Of The Times.

Excellent song 8-) . Think it may be the one that convinces me to pre-order the album. KOL is back to form :)

Make sure you see the weeks, you won't be sorry (if you haven't seen them before). They are really coming into their own. Saw them twice about a month back, 4 times total now. Good stuff
I'm surprised that KOL chose The Weeks as their support for this tour. They practically sound like the same band. I've been listening to The Weeks for years now as I was drawn to their early KOL sound. Definitely a good little band.

I've listened to all the tunes out there so far and I'm just hearing a bunch of average tunes, and I love BotT and OBtN. They all have some promise to start with, but they just plod along and don't really add anything else to make them interesting and I feel the last one had the same problem.

Could not agree more with the "plod along" part of especially the last 2 albums. It's like they write 5 or 6 good songs, decide to pack them all at the beginning of the album, throw in 4-5 fillers, then a good closing song. It almost seems like they know it too, three examples:

I remember an interview from the last album asking about the song Beach Side, which IMO blows, and Caleb said something like well that song was initially labeled B-side because it wasn't very good, but we needed another track for the album so we added it and changed the name.

Someone asked Jared (I think) why the song I Want You is never played live, he said Matthew and Caleb hate it.

The new song It Don't Matter, which is kinda boring to me, they said they wrote it quickly (maybe an hour) because when they were done recording they said we need another fast song for the album, so they wrote that.

I enjoy their music, but I just want them to make a full album, front to back, that is solid, that they are proud of. Not just ehhhh lets fill it up and put it out.

This is just a good business move for KOL, being that they signed the Weeks to their label. What better way to increase their exposure? They opened in Europe for them and got great responses from the crowds from what I've read and from talking to the band when they were in Philly recently. Hopefully they continue to grow....but maybe keep their heads better than KOL

  • Just heard it, so I've heard 3 songs from the new album and they all smoke anything they have done since Because of the Times. I considered these guys dead after the last two albums and never in a million years saw them getting it back together. Hopefully they pick up where they left off 6 or 7 years ago. Aha Shake and Youth & YM are two of the better albums in the last 15 or so years if you ask me.

Between regaining old form (hopefully) and Pettyfest, I'm throwing 'bows to get back on the bandwagon. It seems like they are just having a ton of fun now as opposed to a few years ago.

  • Thoughts on the album folks? It's out there. I think it's very solid but on first listen I like the last one better. This one is definitely more upbeat and youthful, but it seems more poppy to me. Not really anything new. I liked the darker melodies on the last album. We'll see how my opinions change over time.

I streamed it from iTunes today... It's gonna grow on me... Some catchy hooks... "Wait for Me" is probably my sentimental fave... Sounds quite a bit more mature than their last outing.

    I dig it.

It probably will at some point, BBC usually bring out 'Live Lounge' compilation cds.
  • I heard the first 7 songs so far. IMO, their best effort since Because of the Times. I still like Only by the Night and Come Around Sundown though.
