Well this "standard" version is 150g, so still very solid... Okay, I'm kind of embarrassed to admit this, but the record sounds good now that I put back on last night... Um, I think it sounded bad before because I'd smoked some weed and was hearing it funny.  .... But seriously, how was I to know?? Usually pot makes shit taste sound better, not worse!! :fp:

Just like you, I had some wine and Songs for the Deaf, the most-hyped QoTSA album sounded shitty, so far. Maybe, I should try French next time. :?

  • Waited until I have heard this album more than a few times.

It's freaking great. I Sat By The Ocean is a top tier tune. If I Had A Tail is pretty damn good too. I can listen to the whole album and then do it again. I used to call myself a 'fair' Queens of the Stone Age fan. I'm much more now.

Am I the only one that gets a little bit of Bowie sound in there?

After I was able to listen to the vinyl, going back to an mp3 was just awful. They don't compare but I can listen to it multiple times in a row.
    Alright, alright, alright!

Is it tempting to reference one of Elton's own records as something you're like to recreate - "I'd like a 'Street Kids' sort of sound" - or is that dangerous?

No, I don't mind saying what's on my mind. With music there's no reason to beat around the bush - he certainly doesn't do that! What really happened is we're both focused on tinkering on the same toy or engine together. That song, even though it's not clear, really has this root in that Marc Bolan, T-Rex, Wendy Carlos, "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", Bowie with Iggy in West Berlin sort of vibe. And [Elton] was there with Marc Bolan! Bolan was a great friend of his. I think he got that without me having to say, "Hey! Like this!" Jamming with Elton for us was really that - I don't think I need to say something obvious to him as he has his expertise in picking up on things without even making a thing of it. He was, like, "Don't you wanna jam?" The answer is "F***ing A, yeah I do."

Saw them at Lollapalooza in Chile in April. That was the only new song they played, but yea, it was awesome.

Got tickets to see them in Pittsburgh, Cincy and Columbus.

I hate to say it, I don't think PJ can match it, Like Clockwork is that good.

Ok, Queens fans, list your top 3 songs from each album...

This album is taking my fandom to new heights. Always liked them, but now am paying more attention.

Never really listened to their first one, lullabies, or era vulgaris and am curious what folks think of those records...

This is definitely tough, but I'll give it a go!!!

1.) S/T Album = You Can't Quit Me Baby, If Only, The Bronze
2.) Rated R = In The Fade, Tension Head, Better Living Through Chemistry
3.) Song for the Deaf = Millionaire, God is in the Radio, Song for the Dead
4.) Lullabies = Tangled Up In Plaid, Someone's In The Wolf, Burn the Witch
5.) Era Vulgaris = Into The Hollow, Make It Wit Chu, Misfit Love
6.) ...Like Clockwork = I Sat By The Ocean, Fairweather Friends, If I Had A Tail

You need to stop what you are doing and go listen to the first album immediately. Definitely their best!

This is very tough ... Here's my take, and I want to add that Lullabies is the album that first sucked me into them. I love the whole album, it is very hard to choose three. I Never Came must be something like my favourite of all songs.

1.) Lullabies to Paralyze = I Never Came; You Got a Killer Scene there, Man; Skin on Skin
2.) S/T = You can't quit me, Baby; Regular John; You Would Know
3.) Era Vulgaris = I'm Designer; The Fun Machine Took A Shit And Died; Misfit Love
4.) Rated R = Lost Art Of Keeping A Secret; Monsters In The Parasol; I Think I Lost My Headache (Better Living Through Chemistry gets an honorable mention here)
5.) SFTD = No One Knows; God Is In The Radio; Millionaire
6.) ...Like Clockwork = Smooth Sailing; If I Had A Tail; The Vampyre Of Time And Memory

Well, well, that was fun :)
I got a kick out of it when they played the Fun Machine at PJ20, I had been obsessed with that song before the festival  Bam! There it was!

Considered going to the Chi show too, but the fucking flights are too expensive. Now we're thinking of making the trip to Pittsburgh. It's on a Saturday and it's outside ...

If anyone has an extra for the lolla show at the Metro let me know. First show I'm missing since 2004

Fun Machine is one of my all time favorite QOTSA songs. Such an awesome Jam. Didn't know I could have considered that for Era Vulgaris or else I definitely would have. I would kill to see Fun Machine! I about took a shit and died when I saw they played it at PJ20. Still angry at myself for not dropping the cash on that AMAZING weekend.

I'll do my three favorite non-studio album songs:
1.)Fun Machine Took a Shit and Died
2.) Infinity (On Lullabies, but Japanese version only)
    3.) 18 A.D.

The beginning of Infinity (this version, my fave: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOMbBWbJlyc) is my current ringtone :D

And it was awesome at PJ20. I was in London to see them the first time on May 17th 2011 and people sent me messages that they have been added to the PJ20 lineup and I didn't believe them haha ... Then I wanted to see them both days in the seated section and by the grace of a wonderful fellow tenclubber got seated tickets for my lawn night (they were even closer than my own for the first night). Loved it
