Wow! I am with you blue_rain. This thread has me very emotional as well. I have chills and tears in my eyes as I type this.

D2D! *HUGE hugs* I am SO, SO happy for you! I also lost my father and can totally relate to the gripping power and comfort of this song. It has had a major impact on me as well. For you to get this, in this specific city, on his day!? *tears* This is one of the most beautiful things I've EVER heard! Some things are truly meant to be!. Wow, that feeling that musta struck you the moment you heard those gorgeous opening chords?! Omg! I can't wait to hear your reaction....although I know overall it's completley beyond any kinda words.

Another PJ dream come true folks! :)
God this band is THE BEST!

    Congrats again!
    Such a touching story!

so then, why is the milan show so special to me? simply because september 17th is my father's birthday. he died 14 years ago this past february, and if he were alive today...he'd be turning 93. yes, i had a much older father and sadly lost him early b/c of it. so, it's his birthday which makes it a special day to me no matter what...but even moreso b/c i will be in italy for it.

I know what you mean... my dad passed away when I was 18, and he was 84... I'm soooo happy that your dream came true!!!!!!
    Best of lucks!

    *speechless*

eh, who am i kiddin'...i always have something to say. ;) haha. seriously, there really are no adequate words for it all. i was SO high after that show, just unreal. in the moment? i was overwhelmed. i had heard a few rumors/hints that it might actually get played, spoke to an italian girl who spoke to ed the night before and it sounded likely, but i didn't want to get my hopes up, although of course they were anyway. :o that said, it was early in the show and i wasn't expecting it then at all, so when i heard those first opening notes i was in total disbelief. a few tears managed to stream out, which is to be expected b/c that song is always emotional for me. i thought that would be it and i'd manage to hold it together but as it progressed i just lost it. besides, being with my dear friend barbara, she just gave me the biggest hug......and it all was so magical/beautiful.

honestly, i can never know for *certain* if it was played for me, b/c of my requests, etc......but i will always think it was for me b/c the timing/city was spot on. for that, i will always be grateful to pearl jam and also 10c....b/c i truly believe they had a hand in making sure it was known. to be honest, i started this thread, but i also e-mailed and sent a personal note/gift thru snail mail b/c it was so important to me to try and get the song played in my dad's honor. it was just so, so, so special to me and i will always remember that night...and always have such deep appreciation in my heart towards pearl jam honoring my request. what a special celebration/remembrance for my father.

also too...it was beyond amazing to have so many after the fact come up to me and say how they thought of me, of my dad, when they heard the song...how quite a few people cried b/c of it while it played...even right after it one of my new-found friends standing across from me gave me a huge shout out and a beaming smile, all adding to it. so yea....just truly amazing and i cannot thank pearl jam enough for it.
    Stay with me...

I did think about you :)

And of course it was played for us. That and Release in Verona, just for me.
    That's right :p

Glad you had a good time. Sounds like you were smarter than me at navigating the first few rows business...
... and the will to show I will always be better than before.

    *gasps* NO WAY!!!!!!!

    ;)

So glad it was wonderful for you and yes, we all were thinking of you (of course, others as well) when it was mentioned that they played MOTH.

Yay and glad you survived the moshing... whew. You're one tough gal, aren't ya?

I've never made it there... *squished*

  • haha. :p

seriously, the entire italian tour was just an unreal experience. each time i tour for pj shows, it gets better and better. sure, some snafus along the way, but that just goes with travel, coordinating with others, etc. however, despite a few major issues....things all progressed beautifully, and i must say, sharing it all with barbara was great. we've seen numerous shows together in the past, but this was the first we've actually traveled/shared together....and i couldn't ask for a better, more compatible travel and pearl jam companion...just always on the same page....and made it that much more special. add to that ALL the new people i met along the way...sharing the music....the atmosphere....and yea, many, many drinks ;)......bellissimo!

definitely a memory i will always carry with me. :) i cannot wait to get all the boots from italy, but especially milan, to relive it all.......*chills* :D

man, i'm finally here and i'm a mess ;)...time to go and dream...seeya all around the bend.

    buena sera.

  • It's my new favorite Man Of The Hour version. It was played very early in the show, so maybe someone got a message to the band.

  • Hey D2D I assume you are now back in the US of A - I bet you have downloaded that boot and played it a million times already!!

Great to met you and Barbara at the show (and the drink afterwards!) - we were so happy for you that we cried!!

Hope to catch you at another PJ show (maybe in the US) sometime!!
  • Hey D2D, I don't know if you knew about this or not, but the postcard made it to Gitta and she had me throw it onstage. I did so after the lights darkened and it actually cleared Jeff's amp as he was walking out from behind it, so I'd assume that the guys did in fact get it- despite it travelling much further than I'd have thought or intended.

WOW girl, very touching post. VEDHEAD27 told me about this thread, and it almost made me cry just hearing her telling me about it. I had to read it myself. I am glad that you got your wish to hear this beautiful song as a tribute to your father. :) I know you probably overwhelmed by it and one of the reasons why this band always make things happen.

Truly, we all believe in miracles;)

    *HUGS*

congrats on hearing your song sweetie!

  • hey all, YES...it really was too beautiful! i just DL ther show last night, getting set to give my first listen...ahhhhhhh!

perry! haha. what a silly username for you. you are far too adorable to be skinny, sweaty dude. :p i have a couple of pics of you from the milan show, PM your e-mail and i'll send em along. nothing like that *glow* of a first pj gig. :D

jeff - hey, thanks again! yes, i actually gave it to gitta b/c she was closer and after the show she mentioned you tossed it up and you and i did briefly speak about it, and i thanked you then too, hahaha....but that post-show high makes everything such a blur. i do hope they got it, would be very sweet. either way i am sure to pop something in the post in any case.

and yes....absolutely...i hope to see you ALL again at shows...wherever, whenever.....love it if you'd make it out to NY b/c after italy don't think i'll be doing any long-distance travel for some time, so come on out to the big apple. thanks for all the love all. *still beaming*
