But if a "man" (actually woman!) is caught using a women's washroom they could go to prison for 6 months??! What about female transgendereds? Because I'm smelling a serious double-standard. There is just so much wrong crammed into this one little article I can hardly believe it.

i don't understand completely what you are saying here but i will try to see if i do.

Are you saying that you find that the punishment is harder for male to female trans person as compared to a female to male person.

Hmm. Seems I'm more clear in my own head.
Yeah, it's up to the discretion of the cops to charge a female using a men's washroom (which they wouldn't), but if they find a transgendered man in the women's washroom (s)he goes to prison?? Not only is it a double standard for women vs men, but also one for non-transgendered vs transgendered. And I just figure these bigots aren't clever enough to have given any thought to the scenario where a female transgendered person (so living as a man) uses a men's washroom. Would they send her to prison for 6 months? Or would that be up to the discretion of the police, since she is a female in the men's washroom? What if (s)he just says she was skipping a line up? Does she get off? And would the line up excuse work for a guy? ....

you are reading way too much into a pile of bullshit. stop. it is not complicated.

leaving it up to the police officers means exactly that. which mean nothing will happen to anyone unless something like blood or guts were spilled.

if your dude was once actually a woman or your woman who was once a man uses the restrooms they are not going to get jail time. 6 months in jail is out of control & a huffy scare tactic or some shit.

I understand your point, but I just don't believe that many men will actually do that. the really solution to this problem is no more male or female designated washrooms. I don't understand why we can just have unisex washrooms as someone else mentioned already.
I don't know about Europe, but all the unisex restrooms I've seen are single occupancy. So it's a moot point in the US.

As for your first point ... I assume you are a women ... Because a man's sexual drive .... Well ... Vatican City.

    I think not.
I would not mind at all if a transgendered WOMAN shared the gym shower with me. I consider transgendered men women. I call them "she". Now how about you - would you feel comfortable with a transgendered man being in the shower with you? Perhaps someone who's moving towards or has already had a sex change? A "man" with breasts and possibly a vagina but maybe a penis? Because that's what you're suggesting would make more sense. Although frankly, I doubt there are many transgendered people who have had such a wonderfully smooth and harassment free life that they would be showering publicly anyway. Most of them, from what I can tell, are quite concerned about becoming targets in those kinds of situations.
To be honest, I don't like showering with guys around period.

That's nice that you don't care about this issue (not sure why are you even participating in the discussion if you think it's bullshit), but it still bothers me that legislators are actively talking about restricting the rights of transgendered people by exclusively considering what sex they were when they were born. That part of this story is pretty significant if you care about the rights of this group of people, which I do, since I've known and been friends with some.

  • They're afraid people will expose themselves to children.

Is there no law against that already?

They have to punish the whole transgender community because men occasionally flash little girls?

    Ok.

Nobody said Arizona is a place for smart people.

  • So I'm a dude who is lost in my own body and think I'm a chick, so I dress like a chick, but, have to go to the men's washroom, and that somehow is not going to make people uncomfortable.

Glad to see they thought this one through.

"Sorry sir, we know you are transgendered, but can you drop the women's gear before you go into the men's bathroom and when you are done, you can dress back up and carry on." I think this is how they should word this new law.

Get over the hang up people. Travel to Europe and see what life can really be like. One bathroom for a whole club. Guys, girls, trannys, cross dressers, dogs, cats, moms, dads, children, etc.....

I always hear how America needs to be more like Europe ... then I watch a FIFA football game and the fans are chucking bananas at players with darker skin and players doing Nazi salutes after scoring goals.

But they have bathrooms figured out?

    Which is it?

I don't really understand the issue. I mean don't women's washroom have enclosed stalls. So even if a transgender woman went into went into one it is not like she would be able to see anyone else using the washroom. And it is not like anyone would be able to figure out that she was not born a woman, since she would be using an enclosed stall. Plus if this person identified as a woman, why do people think she would want to check out other women using the washroom?

People in general seem way to freaked out about the idea that other people are going check them out naked/changing/using the washroom. To me it seems that people must think very highly of themselves to assume that other people want to see them naked.

ya every cop in the world cannot wait to abuse transgender people. i'd imagine most cops would protect them & try to keep the peace. the cops in my little iowa town would not use their authority to bully & abuse a man in a dress who believes he is a girl. they would try & protect him/her from nasty ass society

You seem really angry with me these days Chadwick. ;) And I'm not sure why you're asking if I know what my own city is like. I am way more aware than you are about the crime issues that we have. I wasn't making a comparison with your little town. I was simply making the point that cops can't necessarily be trusted to do the right thing (especially in large cities, and especially in Vancouver). But I'm not sure what your point is anyway - is it that cops can only be trusted when there isn't a high crime rate?? I would actually think that there are some small town cops who would be less accepting of transgenereds than those in major cities.

Actually, I personally KNOW one of the cops who did that (they all went to trial and were found guilty). He was a friend of my ex boyfriend's. And yes, four cops just decided to take a guy from downtown (he was known to police but not breaking the law at the time), and took him to the park and beat the hell out of him. It was simply a macho, group mentality thing. That is ALL that is part of the story. I wasn't THAT surprised when the guy I know ended up being one of them though (surprised he was that stupid, but not that he went aggro). I went paint balling with him once while he was in training, and he wore full police riot gear for it and went crazy. :fp:

And there are SO many other stories from our police force that would blow your mind (if you respected me enough to believe me, that is).
