Any updates on Machina. I know the final mixes were turned in and all that was left was the art, but its been quiet on that front? Maybe this Fall?

There was preordering on Amazon.de when I checked about 6 months ago for this year.. Not sure what happened with that.

Easy order on the archive release! Looking forward to more! I bet we get Machina late this year. That will be incredible!

Really excited for this one since it's a double album and will be released as the band intended, despite not being my favourite SP album.

For a record made in 2000, it’s a really impressive package.

‘Hello, friend. I can’t believe how quickly this new year is passing.

I do hope that amidst what is a turbulent time in the world politic; culturally, spiritually, politically and the like you are taking time out to honor yourselves and those you love.

On the musical front we are still in search of a guitarist, and hope to hold auditions most likely in the spring. I’m hard at work currently on the new SP album, which is very guitar-oriented (translation: not a lot of synths lol) and has been fun to make for it brings back many great memories but also helps at times to illuminate new pathways; as my relationship with the guitar now goes back some 42 years.

And if you haven’t seen, Reverend Guitars just announced a new BC signature model called the ‘Drop Z’. Check it out if you can.

Also, I am working hard on new archival releases, one of which looks like it will be a vinyl collection in excess of 10 albums; maybe more. And not a synth in sight on those either.

    Lots of love,
    WPC

New album dropping on August 2nd, Aghori Mhori Mei, looks to be digital with a limited run of vinyl. The email said it’s a 45-minute rock record, lol.

I’m sorry if this is a humblebrag but I’m also super jazzed that I picked up a ticket for a show nearby in a town called Bala at a venue that holds 1,050, the day before they open for Green Day in Toronto. I think this venue’s smaller than when I first saw them open for the Chili Peppers in 1991, lol!

I’m pretty sure I fell asleep listening but really enjoyed the album as far as I made it (it’s been a busy week, lol). Going for a deeper listen this evening but my first impression was that it was a good representation of what I saw on stage the night before.

Oh, and there is a synth track or two, caveat emptor, lol!

I like the new album.   Ended up ordering a vinyl copy from Amazon Canada.  It was hard to justify spending over $100cdn on a copy to get color vinyl and a 7" when the standard version is $31 on Amazon.  Plus if another place releases a cooler variant I can always change my mind :)

The new album starts off well, but it isn’t great. The vocals are pretty terrible. Still, it’s better than the last two and I’d say it’s a better album than Dark Matter.

I’ve listened a couple of times now. My favorite late pumpkins album is Oceania. This does not surpass that. It’s good though. Musically I like it, but Corgan’s vocals since Cyr leave a little to be desired. Also, some of these lyrics are a bit strange to me. “Kino”? Overall, I like it well enough.

This is how I feel about it. His voice just gets to me after a while on these songs. Musically great tunes, I can only imagine if somebody else was singing these, may be better.

I really don't get the praise for this album. It is shorter and a little more rocking but there is nothing at all memorable or 90s-esque and yes his vocals are kinda grating. I might be in the minority but I really liked Cyr and Monuments to an Elegy and haven't like much else recently.
  • matt84matt84 Posts: 760
I really like Monuments to an Elegy too. Didn’t care for Cyr though. I think the new album is definitely a grower. But I agree there isn’t much memorable on there. I feel the same way about Dark Matter. I don’t get the praise (especially on this forum) that it is getting. It’s easily their weakest album in my opinion. I've listened to it many many times, but there’s nothing apart from the title track sticks out.

:) I think Dark Matter is fantastic and so much better than anything they've put out since Avocado.

He addressed his change in vocal style a few years ago in an interview, saying something like it was too hard for him to sing the way he used to, and if he didn't change his delivery style, he'd had to stop singing. Not that his vocals were always great to begin with lol, but yeah his vocals over the past few years have been meh.

really odd. first listen,. this album did absolutely ZERO for me. Then I went for a drive. Put it on. Something clicked. Not all tracks are fire. But some of these riffs are straight metal. That being said, the problem I noticed with Billy's songwriting now is that he seems to be writing soundtracks, not individual songs. They lack the HOOK of his early work. A lot of it just seems like one long song, all indiscernible from each.
