Hey if they dont go presale to 10C members then does that mean we will have to buy general public tickets?? and would it be better to camp out for tickets on 19th than to buy pre-sale tickets on wednesday the 17th (general public)

we've always had Staffy's....love them...they have the most beautiful nature and are absolutely brilliant with kids...tough and put up with any 'roughness' kids throw at them as long as they're getting attention.

i love staffy's! they are a beautiful breed! lol and yes they will do anything for your affection..... unfortunately alot of people dont realise how much attention and affection they need and they end up in the shelters. my aunty has a young staffy at the moment and he is the most devoted dog i have ever seen.... he just sits next to her and stares at her!

if nothing is everything i would have it all

Yep...exactly. all our staffys have been like that....don't know how anyone could resist giving them attention, let alone put one in a shelter. Our youngest (child) is only 2, so not at school yet. So while her big bro's are at school, her and our Staffy are inseperable and I can confidently say that I trust Hera (our staffy) 110% with our daughter Maddi. It doesn't matter what Maddi does, Hera is still so patient and gentle with her. You could say Hera is our other daughter..hehehe.
This is weird...should say something PJ....8 hrs and 20 mins to go!!!! COME ONNNNNNN!!!!!!!!

Lol...I actually meant Kat as in the moderator on this board, not the other Kat...but I will say hi for you next time I talk to her ;)

  • Oskar is a great name!

generally this is a really good breed... the main few things you have to worry about with them though is their fierce dominence over other dogs. its important to socialise him with other dogs as much as possible, but as with a Husky, Oskar will really bennifit the use of a Gentle Leader.... for dominant dogs they really are a must. They are way more effective than a choker chain (which i NEVER recommend) and besides helping to control pulling on the lead, you have complete control over his head. this means that if he does turn to have ago at another dog, you have complete control of him.

the other thing that you have to be extremely mindful of is his weight. once you have stopped feeding him on puppy food (at 18-24months) you really need to be able to control his weight with a good excersise routine and good food. Oska is going to be a HUGE dog, and you need to be aware that this has some major effects on his joints and digestive system. He should be on a Large-Breed Premium food or even better (the best infact) the Royal Canin Giant Range. this will ensure an even growth rate so that he is getting a good amount of calcium and not too much energy. this will mean that he will have stronger bones for the rest of his life. the other thing is that Large and Giant breed dogs have a shorter intestinal tract than other smaller breeds of dog... this means that he has a very sensitive digestive system as food has less time in the gut to be absorbed and processed properly.
a good buscit like Royal Canin caters for this problem... the buscits are also very big to ensure that they actually chew the food before swallowing (as they tend to inhale their food). This also cleans Oskars teeth in the process.

the other way that you can help Oskar's digestion is by raising his food and water bowls so that he doesnt have put his head right down. you might notice that as he gets older and bigger, he might start to lie down while he eats.... he's not being lazy, it just means that he can process his food alot better. You can get bowls that are raised from good pet stores.

Although it is alot more expensive than supermarket food, it is really extremely important that you feed Oskar a premium food. The main difference between the two foods is that Premium food doesnt contain "fillers". "Fillers" are cereals and water and flavouring.
Premium Foods contain all the vitamins and minerals that everydog needs. it provides all the calcium and kelp that supermarkets dont. premium foods also use either a meat meal, or dehydrated meat as their number one ingredients which means that they are getting real meat and protiens. Because premium foods are so highly concentrated, you dont need to feed your dog much at all.... the portions are all done according to weight ratio, and because they are able to absorb everything that is in the food, stools are ALOT smaller and alot less smelly. Because supermarket food has no nutritional value to it whatsoever, it means that the dog tends to be defficiant of alot of vitamins and minerals.... meaning more trips to the vet.
Yes premium foods are more expensive up front, but you dont have to feed NEARLY as much in one meal and long term it is much more bennificial health wise, and could contribute to an extended life of Oskar :)

he might develop breathing problems over time due to the shape of his face but theres nothing really that you can do about that.

i think ive just about covered it.... any more questions?

    just a couple
    and thanks for your insight

im feeding him purina bonnie at the moment is that a good enouph food?

secondly im feeding him a generos handfull about 4 times a day im allways stressing that im going to feed him to much but the breeder just told me to fill up his bowl and that he would stop when he was full as they are a grazing breed she said that she did this when all of the pups were together and they did not over eat but it still concerns me!

by the way were does your expierence come from?
Makes much more sense, to live in the present tense

purina is a good brand, but Pro Plan is what he needs to be on to get the nutrition he needs. if you follow the weight guide on the side of the pack, and then break this down into 3 even meals per day this is all he should need. he wont over eat but the reason he will eat so much is because the fillers in his food only keep him full for a small amount of time.
As for the grazing thing, this is ok if you have dogs in a pack situation (ie with the litter) as they have competion for their food. but now Oskar is home, he has been placed into your pack (family) its extremely important that he has a place within the pack and he knows that place.

by putting his food down at the same time every day, and then picking the bowl up again after 20mins (no matter how much he has eaten) establishes in his mind that you are the leader of the pack. by picking up the bowl after 20 minutes, YOU become his competion for food (like he had in his litter). This then tells him that if he doesnt eat his food then and there then its gone and he doent get it til next meal time. if you leave the food down for him to eat at his leasure, you are telling him that he is higher than you in the pack. this is where the dominance problems will start. it also means that he will become extremely fussy about his food..... whenever i have someone tell me "my dog wont eat anything!" the first question i always ask is "are you leaving the food down for him/her?"...... guarenteed they are leaving the food down!

picking his food up is also better for hygene reasons.... it means that his food is not exposed to bacteria for long amounts of time which is extremely important because of his digestive sensitivity.

you can also just give him a handful of dry bickies before you go to bed at night. this will just help to settle his belly and help him sleep through the night.

as for my experience, i have worked with animals all my life, but iam a zoo keeper by trade. i have also worked extensively with the rescue shelters for dogs and cats.

if nothing is everything i would have it all

Pro Plan is Purina's version of Premium food.... it is one of the best foods you can buy (only bettered by Royal Canin) as this is one of the two foods that actually uses dehydrated meat rather than a meat meal or flavouring.
this is also the best food to feed if your dog has any skin sensitivies (but you shouldnt need to worry about that).
