Well, i've got an Xbox 360, and love it, the online gaming for it was a big selling point for me. i've also heard that the Wii can be fun, but as for graphics and games it doesn't come close to the 360 or PS3, but for almost half the price of a 360 and well below half of the PS3 what do you expect.
Now as for Blu ray unless you have the latest plasma or similar tv that has a full HD output, meaning it will put out the full 1080 ratio, you will not be able to spot much difference between normal DVD and Blu ray.
But yes if you have the latest Kickarse tv you will see a great difference between normal dvd and blu ray.
there is also a big debate between Blu ray and HD-DVD and who will be the dominate format, similar to the battle between VHS and Beta back in the day, obviously with VHS winning. then the battle between Laser Disc and DVD, with dvd winning that one.
so it really a matter of what the biggest selling point is for you, weather it be purely for gaming, game and graphic quality or if you want to watch hi def dvds like blu ray or HD-DVD.
I've always said to my wife if i was gonna get a blu ray player i'd be better off buying a PS3, cause even though the PS3 is $1000, the cheapest blu ray dvd player i have seen in $1250. so it makes sense to get a PS3 cause it plays games and blu ray.
But for me the easier option would be to get the HD-DVD drive for my Xbox for like $200.
but it makes no real difference to me cause i'd have to get a new tv to be able to get full enjoyment and quality out of a blu ray or HD-DVD.
I hope i haven't confused you, but if your gonna be spending up to $1000 you want to talk to as many people as possible so you are making the right choice for you.condescending and sarcastic since 19800 -

thanks Glenn,
well i know our tv is kickarse and we do have the built in HD.... its a Panasonic LCD.... but i have no idea about ratio thingies or anything. it would pretty much just be for gaming though i think.... i cant really afford $1000 on a console... i would rather put the money towards the next pj tour.... thats why i was kinda leaning towards the Wii... quality of graphics and stuff doesnt really phase me either as long as its fun and its not too confusing to use....I'd rather be with an animal.0 -

yeah well if that's the case the Wii might be all you need. i haven't heard anything bad about the Wii, but i haven't looked into it much, but it does have some cool featurescondescending and sarcastic since 19800 -

Unfortunately there are a few ways to look at it.
- You can roughy buy an Xbox 360 + Nintendo Wii for the same price as a PS3.
- Factor in the cost for at least an additional controller for whatever console you purchase.
- Xbox 360 is great for Online gaming over Xbox Live.
- Check out what consoles / games he has owned/enjoyed in the past
- If he has been a bit of a Nintendo fan in the past, stick with the Wii. He'll get all the stuff like Zelda, Mario, etc...
- You'll get your more serious action/war/realism etc games on the PS3/360 than the Wii. Wii has the more fun, innovative games.
- Talk to some of his friends and see if they have an idea?
What it really comes down to is what games are out there that he'll enjoy playing, rather than the specific console. You'll find there will be key games that will only appear on certain platforms (Halo on Xbox, Gran Turismo on PS, Zelda on Nintendo) so if there are any particular favourites with new titles coming out soon, check them out!0 -

hey major, were you at the powderfinger gig in a stickman t shirt on the weekend?condescending and sarcastic since 19800 -
Or you could buy both the 360 and the Wii and test both of them for a few months, then with the least preffered one you can send it to me0

I fail to keep up with technology in consoles and media... way too expensive to keep up with it heh... I wonder if one day we'll have to have an obselete DVD player lying around so that we can watch old movies...
I wouldn't say DVD is dead just yet.
with blu ray and HD-DVD players up over $1000 and a blu ray or HD-DVD movie costing $50-$60. i think it's just gonna be a high end type dvd, normal dvds will still be around, unless they can make a blu ray player for $80(which you can buy a cheap dvd player for, but i don't see that happening)condescending and sarcastic since 19800 -

high definition DVD, suppose to be about 6 times better picture quality the standard DVD, as long as you also have the best TV as well.

POWDERFINGER AND SILVERCHAIR TO EMBARK ON AUSTRALIA’S BIGGEST NATIONAL TOUR – ACROSS THE GREAT DIVIDE!
After weeks of speculation, theorising and a bunch of hearsay, Australia’s two biggest rock bands – POWDERFINGER and SILVERCHAIR - have today officially announced extensive plans to stage a major co-headline national concert tour.
ACROSS THE GREAT DIVIDE will bridge the gap between the country and the big smoke with a rock & roll tour on a scale unseen in Australian music for decades. POWDERFINGER and SILVERCHAIR will roll into every capital city plus 14 regional centres right across the nation.
Months in the planning, ACROSS THE GREAT DIVIDE kicks off at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre in SILVERCHAIR’s hometown on August 29, and then moves to POWDERFINGER’s backyard, the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on August 31.
From there, the two chart-topping bands will take their show on the road for over two months, performing in locations as distant and diverse as Darwin and Hobart, Cairns and Mildura, Toowoomba and Bendigo … across the Great Divide and beyond.
In those cities which don’t have sufficiently large indoor venues, the bands will erect a large custom designed tent in which to stage the shows.
The humongous Spring tour is an opportunity for literally hundreds of thousands of Aussie fans to partake in what will be a huge event in every location it visits. Most regional centres on the expansive itinerary won’t have seen a rock & roll show like this since tours by the likes of Midnight Oil and INXS in the 1980s.
Tickets will go on sale to the general public at 9am on July 9. There will also be special presales for the members of both bands’ fanclubs plus an exclusive presale for Visa Card holders from 9am on July 2 through 5pm on July 3 (ticketing info. available shortly).condescending and sarcastic since 19800
