Sadly by the time my mom took me to the dentist as a kid, I had a mouthful of cavities and resulting big fillings. Today I had to have two crowns --one on both sides-- cut off because of the decay under them. And I brush twice a day and floss!! I was there over 2 hours - and everytime that drill got loud I turned up my ipod a little louder. Miserable. And I get to go back in 3 weeks. :-S

Thanks Jen. I think I was suffering from ptsd yesterday. I remember my Mom telling me she felt sorry for me when I had to spend hours in the dentist's chair back then. I'm feeling better today. I hope all goes well for you Monday. I don't usually mind the dentist but here lately it has been sucking. I have started using a fluoride rinse too now. Maybe that will help.

So, after taking a year off from the dentist, I get to start the whole process over today. I am going to get my teeth cleaned today, and then start working on the remaining cavities/fillings. In 3 months I think I will be finished.
    Take me piece by piece.....

I'm pretty sure the cavity in my front teeth is so bad they're going to have to do that thing where they cover it with a fake tooth. The last time I had it filled they explained it to me.
So I'm basically never going to the dentist again.

okie dokie. driving a truck being gone during the week, well you can easily understand the difficulty in getting to the dentist.

UNTIL I found this 7 day a week joint. So on Easter Sunday I had 3 filling AND a root canal plus a referral to a periodontist.. when all I really wanted was a basic exam and a cleaning.

I need to go...haven't been in years...I'm afraid to see what they say....but up until now I haven't had any problems with my teeth...but now they've become sensitive to hot and cold and sometimes when I brush....dunno what that's about but has me a bit worried....

  • I need to go again. Haven't been since two years ago when I had six teeth ( or what was left of them) pulled at once. It was surgically pulled.. So they sedated me.. And apparently I kept telling the dental surgeon he was a douchebag, but hot. Lmao the things you say under sedation!

To you guys who are avoiding the dentist.... please get your asses to the dentist!!! Seriously, it will likely prevent you from having to wear fucking dentures down the road, and save you a lot of money and pain in the long run.

See I've never seen a dentist who puts you under sedation. Even the malofaxicsomething surgeon only gave me local. And they don't understand that I have some kind of tolerance to that shit and need a lot of it. The last time I had filings done they didn't believe me when I said I could still feel my teeth and started drilling. Until I screamed then they fucking stopped and put more shots. Assholes.
I feel like if I could find a "buddy" to sit in the room with me I'd rather just get knocked out completely.

Very true. I haven't gone cause I can't afford it. Medicaid doesn't cover much dental stuff here, other than routine cleanings. And I still have one root canal to
    Go. So no
Point in going just to hear what I already know, but can't afford. Keeping your teeth healthy is providential to the health of the rest of the body.. But the most expensive thing to maintain.. Total catch 22.

I'm not avoiding it...I've never had issues going to the dentist...like I'm not scared or anything...we didn't have dental insurance for a while, and now, it's like OK, I just gotta sit my ass down and find a local one now that we moved and find a good time to go...

I strongly dislike the dentist as well. Would force myself to go every two years or so. That was until my Dad's dentist found an odd lump that turned out to be cancer. Now I see her every 6 months.

So I don't remember what thread I was discussing this in, but a couple weeks ago I found out I have dental coverage included in my Obamacare. I found a dentist in my area that takes it and went for my first dentist visit in however many years. The cleaning was traumatizingly painful & i made him stop once & even had a couple tears escape against my will. But it was free!
Anyway verdict was 6 or 7 (I forgot) cavities, a root canal, and one tooth that's so fucked it's probably not worth saving & just needs to get yoinked. The cavities are covered (hallelujah!) But the other stuff requires approval from the insurance. I got the letter from them today. DENIED!

Is it wrong that I'm made super happy by this? No root canal for meeeee!

Thanks Obama! (Joking. This is a joke)

  • So I forgot that when I got this crown they put in on temporarily for a week, and when I went back in to have it permanently seated, she tried and tried and couldn't get it off. So it has been held on by Elmer's glue for 2 years and four months. I pushed it back on last night and she had to pry and pry to get it off this morning, but it is now permanently secured and thankfully no damage was done to the tooth underneath. :lucky::joy:
