This is all going to boil down to how many tix 10club can get for the shows...if they are limited to 10% by Livenation/Ticketmaster, people in the big markets will be shut out at an alarming rate and all the puppies and bunnies from this trial will be out the window and we'll have more bitching than possibly ever before about the system, but if they can cut a deal for a larger ticket allotment as they have sometimes been able to do previously, this system could satisfy a fair percentage of folks. All remains to be seen.
My success rate is soothing like 30/33. 91% Most of which have been northeast shows.
If a lottery were in place for these 33 shows. I cant image my success rate being any greater than
8/33 That is like 24% And that is probably generous.
Say i was going for 4 shows
Boston
Boston 2
MSG 1
MSG 2
If I don't win my priority 1, there is very little chance you, if any, you will win your priority 2, 3, or 4 because I'm thinking there will be more priority 1's than there are actual tickets. So it wont even matter if you have the other shows as priority 2, 3 and 4. So essentially for the northeast, you are limited to one show, if your lucky.
We are talking northeast shows or other high demand places because this is where the problem is. Of course people that don't live in high demand area love this, they arent going to have issues getting tickets anyway.
I could be wrong, but this is how I am thinking it will be. And I understand this is speculative but that's what these discussion boards are for.
And there is no way I am happy about this new system. Yes F5'ing sucks, but I know my success rate will always be a lot higher than a lottery when it comes to the northeast.

This sounds great until you realize that it's impossible to do as your #1 show could be my #4 show.

If they would allow singles to be sold, that would be one of the biggest things they could do help the situation.

Hate to say it, but F5 seems the best route. Too much uncertainty here and you pretty much have to know and make special arrangements well in advance with the possibility of actually not getting 10c tickets. Sure, you could always go the Ticketmaster route or buying a single from someone on here, but even more work and wouldn't we all just want 10c tix anyway? And sure, it sucks having to take a bunch of time to pound the ol' F5, especially in bigger markets, but that's part of the beauty (and pain in the ass) of it.

Still not clear on this... not asking about actual tour, but just for this contest.. are we supposed to cancel our orders immediately after submitting them? Will that cancel, or not, our entries into the merch contest? Thanks.
Here's the thing, though. You will always get in to show you really want to see. For as many times as I have stressed myself out with all of the F5ing, I have trouble reminding myself of this.
As an example, I decided to go to the very sold out PJ 2010 MSG shows two weeks prior to their occurrence and I got in. Purchased extra 10C tickets the first night and was a seatmate to a ticketmaster ticket buyer the second night.
Maybe the 10C can't always help us out with tickets. It's okay, if you know where to look. Besides, I think that the 10C having a higher demand than supply is a good thing.
I'm for a ticket lottery system, simply because it will help me feel like it's out of my hands a little sooner. And, I will, therefore, stress a little less.
Wow, this sucks big time. My succes rate with F5 is 100% and with the new system it could drop to 0% and there is nothing I could do about it. Nice.

Likewise I too have had very good luck under the old system... but fortunately my job allowed me to sit at my computer for 45 minutes to an hour at the time the tix went on sale, by chance.. other times it would not have been possible. The one huge plus of the new system is that I don't have to worry about that anymore. (Dunno why they never made it so that tix go on sale at 9pm et or something then.)
Actually, this new system pretty much is exactly what 10C had in place when I joined in the mid-late 1990s. Just that there were fewer fans and you were pretty likely to get your show of choice. So they've actually come full circle.
As many of you read in Monday's fan club email announcement, we are currently running a test of our new ticket drawing software that was developed just for www.pearljam.com. The test has been successful so far and has exceeded our expectations for fan participation. Thank You!
The fan feedback we've received has been so helpful that we've decided to add one more show to the test.
No need to rush, you have 3 days to enter! For your convenience you will have until Friday, Jan 11 at 10am pacific until Monday, Jan 14 at 10am pacific to enter for the added show!
New Test Added!
We have added one more show and one more epic contest prize to help test out some of the changes we've made to the new ticketing system. For this added show we would like to invite all members active as of Thursday, Jan 10th to participate in this final test.
Just like a real fan club ticket drawing you will be asked to enter your credit card information in the billing section. Your card will only be authorized $1 for this show. The drawing entry period ends on January 14th at 10am Pacific. After that time your credit card authorization will be canceled and the held funds will be released back.
New Prize Added!
To up the ante, we have a very special prize for this faux show in particular. One participant will be selected to receive an original pennant that flew over the festival grounds at the historic 2-day Pearl Jam 20 event at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin (see photo of above). The vinyl pennant measures 5 feet wide by 7 feet tall in black and red and was designed by Jeff Ament. This is a special item that was made only for this event. This was never made available for sale, making it a true collectors item!
**NOTE** Previous drawing entries do not apply to this contest prize. To be entered in the drawing for this prize, you must enter the drawing for the new added show. Mural in the above photo not included.
Site Forums:
For the purposes of this final test, there has been a change made to the www.pearljam.com forum login. Question, lets say there's a ten leg tour with Louisville, Lexington, shows I want to skip, plus NYC.
Should I list NYC, then Louisville and Lexington? Or should I do it vice versa? Or should I leave them all out but NYC sine I will probably be able to get the KY shows on ticketmaster and just go for the gold?

Putting in for multiple shows doesn't lessen the chances for your priority 1 to be selected.
So you definitely want to list MSG as your priority 1. Then the less demanded shows after that. With your scenario, even if you don't get picked for MSG, the remaining shows in your scenario would likely have enough tickets for all priorities and people that chose that show. So anything after priority 1 has a good chance of being selected because in cities like that, there is enough fan club tickets for everyone that wants to go.

Highlighting, yet again the problem with this new method.
I'm starting to go back to the F5 side here. I guess it could wind up the same. Maybe, it highlights the seniority problem. It doesn't matter WHEN you get your ticket, as long as you get it.
How 'bout TM takes care of the dealio, you limit the number of tix per 10C member (at least in the first go round) and let the Wild eat their young?
Still on the fence, but I'm definitely leaning (not that it matters 1 iota).
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.
just go with ticketmaster already. that was 17 years ago.
Yep!! Not sure why we are reinventing the wheel here.
Because TM is now not only corrupt, they are scalpers too!

I am still not feeling this lottery system, especially if the only city you live near is Toronto. I can understand if you have multiple show condesnsed into a small area. So JP will probably do 2 nights in Toronto, and I don't think TM sell out of tickets right away. Now, I am sure some people will say that I could get my tickets through TM if I don't get tickets through the lottery, but I would say to them I have my 10c membership so I don't have to deal with TM, I have it so I can get good tickets. I don't pay for a 10c membership for the chance to enter a lottery.
Obviously I will try the lottery system, but I remain highly skeptical. ANd I don't understand why some people seem to have such a problem with senority.

Except they use them for the general sale. So, what's the difference?
And, let's get off the scalping crap. If these concerts were priced properly to begin with, that wouldn't be an issue. You can't play the - we want to make it affordable card FOLLOWED by the - why are others making money off us card. Not saying PJ themselves do. And not saying the former is a BAD thing necessarily. But, you can't have it both ways. The market will bear what it will bear. Move on with your lives.

yes,but who said that with the previous system you will get tix??
lottery or not,10c has some fan club tix to sell..ALL no matter the method will sale them, goes to 10c members..
before tix goes to the lucky ones that their pc wasnt frozen, crach, need to be specific time to your pc for the presale,f5 for hours,
now tix goes to the people are lucky at the lottery, and dont have to torture themself to get a fan club tix..
with the previous system, same with the now system, the 10c members wanna see the show and didnt score, buy from ticketmaster or get spares from 10c members that scored tix..
and seniority is a reward to the members are at 10c alot of years in the row..i agree to that..
but used only to the ones score tix already..
chances to score tix ,must be fair to all 10c members..not matter seniority

Well, to piggy back on my credit idea... if your first selection doesn't get picked, your #2 pick would become number 1.
This sounds great until you realize that it's impossible to do as your #1 show could be my #4 show.
The only real solution is more shows to meet all the demand

As an example, I decided to go to the very sold out PJ 2010 MSG shows two weeks prior to their occurrence and I got in. Purchased extra 10C tickets the first night and was a seatmate to a ticketmaster ticket buyer the second night.
Maybe the 10C can't always help us out with tickets. It's okay, if you know where to look. Besides, I think that the 10C having a higher demand than supply is a good thing.
I'm for a ticket lottery system, simply because it will help me feel like it's out of my hands a little sooner. And, I will, therefore, stress a little less.

Actually, this new system pretty much is exactly what 10C had in place when I joined in the mid-late 1990s. Just that there were fewer fans and you were pretty likely to get your show of choice. So they've actually come full circle.

Should I list NYC, then Louisville and Lexington? Or should I do it vice versa? Or should I leave them all out but NYC sine I will probably be able to get the KY shows on ticketmaster and just go for the gold?

If you were 20 years old, you'd understand. Step into other folks' shoes once in a while. They tend to be uncomfortable at first, but you'll work them in.
lottery or not,10c has some fan club tix to sell..ALL no matter the method will sale them, goes to 10c members..
before tix goes to the lucky ones that their pc wasnt frozen, crach, need to be specific time to your pc for the presale,f5 for hours,
now tix goes to the people are lucky at the lottery, and dont have to torture themself to get a fan club tix..
with the previous system, same with the now system, the 10c members wanna see the show and didnt score, buy from ticketmaster or get spares from 10c members that scored tix..
and seniority is a reward to the members are at 10c alot of years in the row..i agree to that..
but used only to the ones score tix already..
chances to score tix ,must be fair to all 10c members..not matter seniority
