I felt the same way when Cosmo started baiting ... no on can know God :fp:
being the OP I went for the challenge thinking I could perhaps help
with a notion so lost in logic, so narrow in thinking.

Pages consumed by the contrary and combative posts, I finally gave up...
    can't make 'em drink.

I guess that can be my reply in the future.

I'll try to close out the issue of the difference between 'believing' and 'knowing' with this...
Yeah, I will always call bullshit on the arrogance of any person or religion that claims to 'Know' the answer to the question that has puzzled Mankind for all of the Ages. Like, I'll call bullshit every time on Pat Robertson who claims to know... and Rev. Fred Phelps who claims to know... and Heaven's Gate who claims... er... claimed to know... and David Koresh and Baghwan Rashnesh who also claimed to know. Because I know... they don't know. And yeah, that is probably arrogance on my part... so, I invite any of them to prove me wrong and I will freely and openly admit the err of my way.
I have no problem with anyone... individual or multinational doctrine that states a belief. Belief... faith, hope, penitence is personal and tied to the individual, not to the Universe at large. One's personal beliefs are theirs and theirs alone... whether choosing to accept the doctrine of Christianity or Judaism or Islam or Atheist or their own interpretation of their life experience... that belongs to them and I respect that. I will continue to reject the false claim of 'knowledge' of God, simply because, if true, that would result in the nullification of all of those personal beliefs.
Again, i state, this is my personal belief and I have provided a back story to explain how I got here.
    peace...

To know God takes nothing from others beliefs, quite the contrary,
it brings much more respect and admiration than you certainly offer
with your incessant calling bullshit and doing your very best to try not to understand.
which of course is the height of arrogance.

This shows who you are. Where you are.

Knowing God is a very humbling place by the way. Maybe you could imagine... wait maybe not.

Shouldn't you be honest with yourself and admit you are
    an atheist?

Admit you reject the idea of God entirely. You reject everyone's religion,
even mine which is not a religion.
Shouldn't you own your not wanting to know God? Thinking no one is able?

It's ok to be an atheist, saying you are seeking when you are not is misleading.
You have admitted you are not open to the possibilities.
Honesty is important. To be honest with yourself.

My experiences have shown me, given to me. I know God. I have personal proof.
    I am not alone.

Again I ask what could someone say to convince you?

What event could prove to you God exists?

Is it nothing? As I suggested before. If so it's time to be happy with where you are
and let others be happy with what they know.
Otherwise you are certainly pushing your beliefs upon others. Allow others to know God,
don't stifle because you are unable.

Then perhaps you can go in peace when you stop tormenting and baiting believers who know God.

    you first lady friend ;)
    please stop baiting...
there are people who know God and to bait them is really insensitive.
In the future just say you don't know God ... that is a correct statement
and try not to speak for everyone on Earth.

Lemme guess. I didn't make the list, did I?
    ...
    Testing... testing... check.... check...
In my opinion... Knowing God would result in words of acceptance and respect of my unanswered questions. It would be tempered with empathy and understanding of my personal dilemma in struggling with this question. It would not be met with judgement of my character, misconception of my motives, condesending arrogance and general not-very-niceishness.
    ...
    End test.

    It is, indeed, Chadwick!

How about this for a simple take on truth and god and such: More can be learned from asking the right questions than ever will be found in believing one has all the answers.

That is true... I have learned more about people than God. Whether it is Christianity or Judaism or the spiritual beliefs of an individual, the true aspects of who the person is, comes to the surface. It tends to bring out the true character of the person I am speaking to, rather than the person they wish to portray themselves as.

Hmm, interesting thought, Cosmo. This could lead to a conversation about being forthright which is sort of a subset of truthfulness which is a subset of truth.

    It is.
I have had people exalt the greatness of their love for all of God's creations... then, condemn a massive portion of humans because of their belief system being not the same as their own.
Which had lead me to the perception that Religion isn't bad... it's the truths in the people who believe that create the problems. Like, the Rev. Phelps clan... it is their message, not the Christian Religion they claim to represent, that is the basis of their shitheadedness.

I think that, yonks ago, there was a thead about 'true colours'..... (or rather 'colors'!). Think it may have also gone down a certain path....

Though, as you say, interesting topic. Another thread perhaps? Are we who we really say we are? Might mess with my mind!

You are correct. A person's true colors do reveal themselves in certain situations. For the most part, you can kind of get a relatively correct assessment of someone by simple observation... although that can somewhat be tainted by a person who presents themself in a light they wish others to see them in.
For example, we all lie. Anyone who tells you they NEVER lie... is probably lying. They may never see the lie they believe, but, truth is... they lie.
