saw an attack ad for akin against mccaskill tonight. he talked about how everyone knew about his little gaffe in 60 seconds, but it is more important for them to know about mccaskill's 6 year record, or something along those lines. i can't believe people in missourah are still taking this guy seriously.

whats important is for the people to know this guy is prone to saying stupid shit without merit of a factual foundation.

My understanding is that the Dems are withholding their attack ads until after some deadline for Akin to be removed from the race, then they will let loose. People on the inside think the race will be over after that happens. Whatever.

i have not gotten any robocalls or seen commercials from claire attacking akin for this, so you could be right.

most of claire's commercials are trying to distance herself from obama's record stating that claire "specifically voted against" x, y, and z...

They didn't really have a choice I guess, since he didn't drop out. Surely there is no chance this mental case could win, is there?

he said today that "mccaskill was more ladylike in 2006 campaign"...

women's groups are understandably offended by this and they have been calling on the national gop to condemn the comments and at this time they have not... stay tuned as this might become another issue for a man who clearly is not connecting with women voters here in this state...

that is exactly what he was saying. in his religiously warped mind she needs to be submissive and in the kitchen, not in public office, and certainly not going after him, a man, in the manner which she did in the debate a few days ago.

Yes. He was contrasting her "ladylike" demeanor in 2006 with her "aggressive" behavior this year, where she "came out swinging".

That may be what he meant but I don;t think the term ladylike is bad at all. It's like saying gentleman-like or gentlemanly. She is a lady as opposed to a gentleman after all.

Well that all depends on what one thinks a lady should be like. This guy apparently thinks ladies shouldn't be "aggressive" in competitions & they shouldn't "come out swinging". And, unlike the word "gentlemanly," the word "ladylike" is often used to remind women of their so-called place & create a double-standard. I can't think of any examples of the word gentlemanly commonly being used in that way.

this is interesting ... my 2 cents ...

i think both those words (gentlemanly and ladylike) are aimed at pacifying the person ... make them less aggressive ... in men, that is often seen as a good thing because men are considered to be the more aggressive of the genders ... while in women, it is has the same desire but the context is completely different as it has a oppressive connotation ..

lady like is opposite of pig like ;)
and yes of course subjective and based in personal opinion...

which absolutely everyone has the right to express,
and of course suffer the consequences for.
Stop stifling people, let them dig their own graves, he has with those who do not agree.
  • Hell, I just thought ladylike meant that a woman carries herself well. Well spoken, put together, intelligent, courteous...etc

And I thought gentlemanly was the same but for a guy. But I guess those are just my definitions.

But, again, it all depends on how people think a woman should carry herself. I'm not necessarily against the word altogether. When "ladylike" and "gentlemanly" refer to the same characteristics, I'm generally in support of that. It just frequently doesn't, that's all. Too bad we can't just use a gender-neutral term and get rid of the gender contexts. Then we wouldn't need to have this discussion.
