Not exactly on topic. But I played Yellow Ledbetter for my mom yesterday, after surfing the radio in the car and finding nothing good, and she was like "Now this is great!"

Ive always loved Mike ending the concert... and he has the opportunity to do that with Yellow Ledbetter more than any other song I think...

I think MotH would be good. "Goodbye for now..."

or perhaps a solo Eddie acoustic "Can't Keep" would be funny. That is perhaps the most underrated song in all of Pearl Jam's catalog...

  • If you have to replace YL (which I wouldn't), Porch trimmed to around 6 minutes that just blisters all the way through

Indifference is my first choice.... although the finish in Toronto '03 (I think) that ended with Rockin' into Baba O'Reilly was pretty cool too.

LMAO !!! you rule. go cubbies?
I wanna tell you that I love you, but does it really matter? ...first show 12-31-91 w/RHCP and Nirvana.

I hate to hear YL...because it means it's over!
but otherwise I actually like it to finish.

Parting Ways would be a good closer too.

What I am sick of is getting Baba or RITFW as second to last all the time.. I don't mind the songs themselves but THEY are now marking the end of the show rather than YL... htat's getting into a routine and I don't like routine :(

I wouldn't mind hearing something like Porch closing with a real long extended jam. But then again, it'd be really wierd to have the house lights on with Porch playing, so maybe not.

You know, Yellow Ledbetter is a good closer. Or Breath, that'd be a sweet closer I think.

  • i love indifference and it is a treat to hear it live............BUT, when they closed with it a meadowlands 1 it had a pretty unsatisfying feeling, like i thought for sure they would play another, and when the lights went up it felt wrong...........did someone already say this? i didn't read all 6 pages of the thread
"I'll tell you what: If all I had was Pearl Jam, and I didn't have another band in the world, I would not be worried. Because in there is the essence of making great music. You don't have to use it all at once, but it's there." - Neil Young

(ignoring the fact that YL was an unexpected extra encore) they closed Cardiff in 2000 with Smile.
Jeff on guitar (including part of the solo), Stone on bass, everyone singing "I miss you alreeeeeeaaaaaaadyyyyyyyyyyyyy". It was perfect.
Plus Eddie descibed it at the start as "It's a 'going away' song, I guess" and it's not exactly a regular in the set so it would be even cooler if they started playing it more often

I like it when they end with Fuckin up. Love the hard Neil riff.

But the guy who said people just stand around until they play YL is right - people just won't believe its over for a while until its played.

  • YL is irreplaceable and no matter how many times I hear it played or see it performed I will never get sick of it. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.

You aren't! Footsteps would be cool though.
  • Smile would be a great closer... but it's still no YL.

Seems like a lot of people would rather see another song to for PJ to close a show with than 'Yellow Ledbetter'. I still enjoy but wouldn't mind seeing other songs to close with.

What do you think would be a good replacement for it?

My choices would be 'Gone' or 'Present Tense'

Never! My fav closer for a Pearl Jam show. The perfect period to end it, with the twangy notes at the end begging thee show to not end.
