I dont like when PJ extends Porch to 9-10 minutes and RVM forever. They kill the whole intensity of the song IMO. The newer version of RVM that I first heard on the 05 boots with the heavier bassline is cool but Porch is best at 6-7mins.
I don't know that the band has been more intense than it was during the Porch from the 4/3/94 show that lasted 10 minutes or so. That recording still blows my mind, even after repeated listenings, and I could definitely do with seeing that come back as a show closer.

to live in the present tense
I think "All Those Yesterdays" would be a nice closer. Can't you just picture all those lighters, I mean cellphones, being held in the air by all the fans????
i like the present tense and habit ideas- songs with a really cool 'jam' section that the band could do what they want with...
i always wanted wishlist to be a closer. release/oceans are cool shouts.
last exit could be quite apt.

Yellow Ledbetter has to stay. They first couple of shows i went to way back when the closed with other songs and that was fine. But recently when they close with something else it is kinda confusing. Cause you aren't sure if the show is over or not. The worst is when the play Yellow Ledbetter and then play another song after that. Or in Grand Rapids in 04 when Eddie came back onto stage after Yellow Ledbetter cause he forgot his notebook.
My whole life looked like a picture of a sunny day.

They need to do a playback of that Porch form Atlanta 1994 and simulate that they´re actually playing it.

With bands like pearl jam who have been around for 16 years i think the perfect closers are classics from their oldest albums. so i really would love seeing jeremy close out some shows. and only be played as a closer. i think it could be extended and tagged nicely as well.
but yellow ledbetter, alive, and indifference all work nicely in my book. betterman could be cool too.
However, if I had to pick one, I'd say "Come Back." After all, it's how most people feel after Pearl Jam finishes until the next time they see the band.
I also love YL; never get tired of it or any PJ song for that matter. However, if I had to choose I liked the two suggestions listed above; add on Wasted Reprise or Present Tense.
"I'd rather be with an animal." "Those that can be trusted can change their mind." "The in between is mine." "If I don't lose control, explore and not explode, a preternatural other plane with the power to maintain." "Yeh this is living." "Life is what you make it."
I use to skip YL when i hear any post 2000 boot. But the 5 times i´ve seen them live, they have closed with YL and those 5 times were beautiful and made the perfect "good bye moment".
So YL is perfect for a closer song, only if you actually are at the show, but its a little anoying to see on every tracklist, imo.

Here's an oldie but goody- "Let My Love Open the Door"
Bring it Back!!!
I agree. That was a great song. I enjoy "I Got You" by Split Endz or something and "Sonic Reducer" they used to play at shows. I think they should go back to the basics and end with Porch.
Yeah I don't get why everybody wants it to be taken away either. Its perfect
Anybody who has seen Pearl Jam so many times to actually be tired of hearing a song is pretty damn lucky and shouldnt complain about anything
Anytime PJ ends the show without YL, people stand there expectantly for another song...and are disappointed when there isn't one. So...I think they should end all shows with YL..just so you know when to leave. hahaha
Well, I personally hope they don't stop playing it. The first two concerts I went to they didn't play it, and I was DYING to hear it live...of course I got my wish, cause the 6 shows I've seen since have all closed with it...not that I mind!
But if they were to change it up, I think Come Back would make a pretty sweet closer (surprised noone else mentioned it!). Of course Indifference is pretty damn cool too.
Just my opinion.
Peace

"Six million dollars we turned down, to prevent our song to be sung by a cock" E.V. - San Diego, June 5, 2003
I agree. I have so many great memories to that song! I spent many summer nights with friends cruising around with the jeep top down to YL. Everytime I hear it, it brings back awesome memories for me.
Ummm...anything...after seeing YL 3 nights in a row in San Fran, I just wish Ed would mix it up more at the end. I know this is a very commercialized tour, so I'll let it go. Would love to see Smile or Brain of J or Black or Off He Goes end a set.
And I'm not living this life without you, I'm selfish and clear
And you're not leaving here without me, I don't wanna be without

Hahahaha... I agree, Yellow Ledbetter is the greatest, and the jealousy grows as I see people with 15 and 20 dates as their signature.

1. Alive: It's obviously their biggest hit, fast, has a long outro to get the crowd going and involved.
2. Even Flow: Why not end the show with a fast song that the crowd screams the words?
