Hopefully this is a good learning experience. Sometimes when things come too easily or quickly you tend not to work as hard. Hopefully they'll all work hard over the winter and build a dynasty.

Sometimes when things come quickly you should play free and without a care and perform well without pressure. Next year they will favorites and the pressure will mount.
They played loose for the last several months. They just ran into a better team.

We shouldn't be too disappointed though as they were bottom dwellers just one year ago.

Schwarber's natural position is catcher. He's too good at the plate to leave him out of the lineup, so they had to put him somewhere. I don't know what the answer is... put him in at C and Coghlan start LF? When I played, I was an infielder mostly platooning between 2B/3B. One game I got stuck in the outfield and about 6 balls sailed over my head. I can't judge outfield flies for shit, either, so I'm not gonna knock Schwarbs.

All I know is that this has been the most exciting season the Cubs have had, in my opinion, since the 89 team led by Don Zimmer. I'm not gonna let 4 terrible games blow it out of proportion. There were just too many great things to take away from this season. MLB's 3rd best record, Arrieta throwing the best 2nd half in ML history, starting anywhere from 3-6 rookies on any given day, making the playoffs, eliminating the two best teams in baseball, making it to the NLCS. There was just a brick wall at the end.

Good luck to the Mets in the World Series! If they win it all, that means the Champs were the only team that could beat us. I can live with that.

34 times in MLB history has a 7-game series started 3-0. In those 34 times:

1 - team has come back to win 4-3 ('04 Red Sox)
1 - team has ever even forced a game 7 ('04 Red Sox)
    3 - teams have forced only a game 6 ('04 Red Sox, '99 Mets, '98 Braves)
    5 - teams have forced only a game 5 ('04 Red Sox, '99 Mets, '98 Braves, '37 Giants, 1910 Cubs)
29 - teams have been swept

Maddon stated after the NLDS & before the NLCS he was going with a 4 man rotation.
  • Eddie Vedder is worried about touring in October?
Someone tell Mr. Vedder he can live to be 700 years old. He could live longer than Moses.
And he wont have to worry about not having to tour in October.

He sounded like he was on his second or third bottle of wine pleading for runs during the seventh inning stretch last night.

I agree. The Cubs won 24 more games than they did last year. The team made the playoffs a year ahead of the Theo's timeline and a few rookies made it up from the minors ahead of schedule and exceeded most people's expectations.

It sucks that we got swept and that the season is over but I think this team did far more than people expected. The Mets were just a much better team the past week (and we played like garbage).

All the Cubs need to do is to field a team that consistently makes the playoffs and then hope that they get hot at the right time. The NL Central is going to be tough for the next few years but I think the Cubs are almost where they need to be for a WS run in the next 3-4 years.

I read that somewhere but don't know how accurate it is. Maddon did say they were going with a 4 man rotation. I guess it's possible that after getting smoked 3 games in a row, he asked if he could go and Lester said no....but who knows. Pretty sure if I was Lester and was asked to pitch game 4 with the Mets bats clobbering everything, I'd probably say no too. That way the Cub fans can't get on his ass for making $500 million and stinking up the NLCS twice.

I have listened to a couple different sports talk shows here in Chicago, and according to the hosts, this is exactly what happened. After being down 3 games to zip, Lester was approached and asked if he could go in game 4. He said NO.

Isnt that just perfect? Isn't that just so God Damned Fucking Fitting for this sports franchise? You sign a guy to $155 million, you are down 3-0 in the NLCS, you ask him to give you some innings, and he says NO! Only in the land of Cubs!

Bob Gibson would have taken the mound
    Koufax would have said sure!
Fergie Jenkins would have pitched 4 of the 7 games if needed.

But Jon "Overpaid, under.500, useless FUCK" Lester, says no.

Getting rid of a 25 yr old 3 time all star and swapping him out for a 34 yr old doesn't seem to make sense to me, but Cubs fans seem to be happy.

I don't get Cub fans being so pumped about it either, but thought maybe my Cards bias was clouding my judgement. I get he can be a doofus sometimes, but when he gets hot, he's as good as it gets. I guess it's the ever hopeful Cubs fan thing.

Yea I see what your saying..but I'm fine with this..even though Castro came on in the 2nd half of last season, his lax fielding, piss poor base running, ability to doze off between pitches, 50 spits at home plate during an at bat, and the face mask he wore in the mets series drove me nuts..peace out starlin.
"Going where the water tastes like wine!"
  • Well, Castro is gone. Lets see, in return I got a pitcher in Warren, who will be competing for the 4th starter position, and I have Zobrist, who is a Maddon type of player. A player who is versatile and can play 3-4 different positions. I guess in the grand scheme of things its not that bad of a deal.
I have backed Castro for the last 5 years. I have been a fan of his for the last 5 years. But there is no denying that Castro is one of the biggest AIRHEADS to ever wear a Cubs uniform. The guy has all the talent in the world, and the I.Q. of a grapefruit. That said, I am pretty sure he has more hits in the major leagues at the age of 25, than Pete Rose had at the age of 25(or its pretty damned close).

  • Warren is decent, throws a fastball about 93, 94 occasionally 95. He should have been more of a starter last year especially once Ivan Nova started pitching poorly but he was good in whatever role he was in. If you like Def Leppard's biggest hit, "Pour Some Sugar on Me", that was his music when he took the mound.

Other than looking at his career stats yesterday, I don't know a damned thing about Warren. Ha
But Castro is going to drive you N.Y. fans insane. Unless of course he can manage to act like a professional the next 10 years. Then you will be thrilled to have a perennial All-Star.

I think it will all depend on which Castro shows up in NY. If you get the one who played the first half of this season, you will not be happy. If you get the second half and playoff Castro, you got a good hitter.

This^. Also, be prepared for average at best fielding and a below average base runner.
He always seems like he's got something else on his mind during games and makes a lot of boneheaded plays.

Still a lot of talk linking Heyward to Cubs. For his asking price I wouldn't. Hope we are driving up cost for Cards. Id rather Soler cheap than Heyward over priced.

I'm hoping Heyward signs with with SF and StL ends up with Cespedes or Davis. I'm all for the Cubs overpaying for him, but he fills a monster hole for them.

Cards need a power threat and somebody to pair with Holliday for his last couple seasons. They've had enough base runners, but nobody to drive them in the last compel seasons.
