Seven-year-old girl shot dead in Chicago

You guys must be blind, nobody blamed the girl. I did blame the Mom for letting a 7 yr old outside at 1045pm. You'd think that it's common knowledge to get inside before the animals come out but what do I know, I don't play in the street.

So to be really clear; the Mom, the city, and the gangs are to blame. Not a child or a gun.

there was a 2 year old in the city over from me that got run over and died. the kid darted away from its mom and got hit. people on the winnipeg free press website were blaming the mom for basically not having the kid on a fucking leash.

it's just so fucking backwards.

so do you blame a woman for being raped because she was drunk walking down a deserted back alley at 3am?

I cannot see how I matters what time it was. School is out, it is a million degrees there right now, they probably didn't have air conditioning. They were probably out because it was too fucking hot to stay in their home. I don't care what time of day it was, a mother should be able to have her kids out 24/7 without them getting shot. The blame and responsibility is completely 100% with the shooter.
Could also be that the mother is just so hard up she can't afford to miss work, and had absolutely no child care options. Either way, I cannot understand how a kid being out late matters at all. Now you're a bad parents because ypur child is out of doors after 9?? Give me a break!!!

No. Reality is poor parenting is to blame along with Chicago being weak on gangs.

The poor parenting put her in a dangerous position, but isn't to blame. Good parenting could have helped it from happening though.

My favorite time of year. I just imagine everything I hear is fireworks and no gunshots. It would not suprise me to see a record number of shootings this week. Temps are supposed to be in mid to upper 90's all week=more people on the street to cool off and more people up to trouble.

Sad news about the girl, but hopefully some good will come from it somehow? They caught the guy that shot her, and their is no parole, I think they are still looking for an accomplice.

Isn't 10:45 a little late for a 7 year old to be up, much less on the street "working"? I also get the impression from the tone and words spoken by the mother on the news, that she is more interested in revenge than she is overwhelmed with sorrow. I may be dead wrong with the impression she gave me, but this is how it sounded to me. Who was near them that was the intended target? Did the mother know this person, and do they have gang affiliations? She knew this was a dangerous area at a dangerous time of night. I'm not saying it's her fault, I'm just saying that as a parent you should never put your child in an unnecessary dangerous or potentially deadly situation. All of the blame is on the shooter, however a child of that age has no business on the street in that neighborhood at that time.

Went to Floral Art School there in the late 70's, scared me then
went to see PJ in 09 still scared me.

I live in Atlanta, still Chicago scares me more. I think it is the heat that people can't take.
More frustration and aggression. Here it is hot and it's just lazy.
Aggression is seen in how people drive good lord ... look out.

Illegal guns are the problem.

50 years ago I couldn't be out at 10:30 at night and my suburb streets were safe.

you people amuse me. how the fuck does one become scared of a city??? be honest people... youre not scared of the city.... youre scared of the people that inhabit it. i have never been anywhere where ive been concerned for my welfare. everywhere i go i feel i belong. perhaps this is naivety... perhaps its cause ive lived in cities all my life.. but whatever it is i refuse to allow anything to make me think i do not belong. i walk the streets at whatever hour in whatever city im in. i walk as if i belong... and hey! fuck you if you think you can intimidate me cause you are sorely mistaken. if you want to fuck with me its you who doesnt belong... not me.

no... i havent had the pleasure yet. but then i really have no reason to. but i have done NYC, LA and chicago... and ive done them at night as well as in broad daylight.
