honestly wtf are we doing up in chicago? what is it with all of this violence and murder the last few months up there?

we have a gun problem in this country, and we will have a gun problem until the end of time.

Double the murder rate of New York.

    Half the Police force.

And if I had to guess 3 times the size?

Even more messed up than her being 7, she was selling lemonade at 10:30 P.M.

Good question. Tragic about the little girl in any case. I would wager that most of the 253 murders this year in Chicago were not by licensed/registered/legal gun owners.

Chicago just gave $1M to a group of ex gang members to act as mediators before violence erupts.

Typical. Instead of cleaning the streets they would rather just throw a coat of polish on them.

I stay out of Chicago. You can't walk 20 feet without a camera or tax getting you.

Oh, why is a 7 year old outside at 1045pm? Great parenting skills there.

That's a shame because I used to enjoy Chicago a lot.

What a shame. Terrible and very sad.

Never-the-less, even though I haven't been there in several years I'd be willing to venture a guess that most parts Chicago are relatively safe and enjoyable. It's the poor who live in poor districts that suffer the most casualties and hardship in our cities. This is one place we still need to make changes in many cities- big changes.

    Agreed Brian... Man... How sad...
  • I dont' give a shit how old she was and what she was doing. even asking that question is a slippery slope to blaming the victim. it's like saying "that brutal rape was awful, but really, what was she doing wearing such skimpy clothing like that?". Come on people. she was an innocent kid selling drinks with her mom. she was with her MOM.

Good points, Hugh. Besides, as hot as it's been back there the kid was probably pretty smart being open that late.

    The whole thing is sad.

Yeah they were just talking a stroll on a picturesque beach with the wind gently blowing their hair.

No. Reality is poor parenting is to blame along with Chicago being weak on gangs.

why don't you blame the shooter rather than the mom and the victim? the mom did not pull the trigger. and the mom standing there beside her daughter is not tantamount to pulling the trigger. the blame lies with the shooter, the gun, and nobody else.

Why anyone would even hint that this is the fault of the victim baffles me? A seven year should feel safe no matter what hour of the day it is.

it is just like blaming the poor for their lot in life. it is the easy answer to a HUGE problem that plagues our society.
