we have a gun problem in this country, and we will have a gun problem until the end of time.

disgusting
Half the Police force.
And if I had to guess 3 times the size?
Even more messed up than her being 7, she was selling lemonade at 10:30 P.M.

Typical. Instead of cleaning the streets they would rather just throw a coat of polish on them.
I stay out of Chicago. You can't walk 20 feet without a camera or tax getting you.
Oh, why is a 7 year old outside at 1045pm? Great parenting skills there.
That's a shame because I used to enjoy Chicago a lot.
Ahhh yeah... +1
take a good look
this could be the day
hold my hand
lie beside me
i just need to say
Never-the-less, even though I haven't been there in several years I'd be willing to venture a guess that most parts Chicago are relatively safe and enjoyable. It's the poor who live in poor districts that suffer the most casualties and hardship in our cities. This is one place we still need to make changes in many cities- big changes.

Good points, Hugh. Besides, as hot as it's been back there the kid was probably pretty smart being open that late.
The whole thing is sad.

No. Reality is poor parenting is to blame along with Chicago being weak on gangs.
why don't you blame the shooter rather than the mom and the victim? the mom did not pull the trigger. and the mom standing there beside her daughter is not tantamount to pulling the trigger. the blame lies with the shooter, the gun, and nobody else.

So to be really clear; the Mom, the city, and the gangs are to blame. Not a child or a gun.
there was a 2 year old in the city over from me that got run over and died. the kid darted away from its mom and got hit. people on the winnipeg free press website were blaming the mom for basically not having the kid on a fucking leash.
it's just so fucking backwards.

so do you blame a woman for being raped because she was drunk walking down a deserted back alley at 3am?

He meant streets on the north side. It so sad, but no political figure gives a shit about the south or west side of Chicago. The only time this stuff gets brought to our attention is when the weather gets hot, and some "thugs" from the south and west side wander into the "white" areas of Chicago. When I say "white" I mean, Michigan Avenue and the Northside beaches.
If a child is killed, it is on the news. 253 murders so far, the news maybe reported 15 of them....because they were kids.
Mayor Emanuel wonders what type of person wanders up and starts gang fire in the presence of a child? Hey Mr. Mayor, its the kind of person who has been neglected by his/her parents and all city officials their entire life....especially the school system.
Could also be that the mother is just so hard up she can't afford to miss work, and had absolutely no child care options. Either way, I cannot understand how a kid being out late matters at all. Now you're a bad parents because ypur child is out of doors after 9?? Give me a break!!!
sad story, but damn, selling smokes? :fp:
The poor parenting put her in a dangerous position, but isn't to blame. Good parenting could have helped it from happening though.
