Bob Dylan is a gift from God. When you listen to Bob Dylan you should say a prayer and thank God that you are on this Earth and can hear. Bob Dylan is a gift from God.
Blood on the Tracks is an example of a genius at work. That album in it's entirety is so perfect that it will live on forever. IMO there will never be a collection of songs equivalent.

Wow!! I like Blood on the tracks a whole lot, but that is real dedication. I don't think I can follow you there, but I sure love to see you stand there and wave to you while I sing to you from a distance: It was in another live time one of coil and blood, when blackness was a vertue and the roads were full of mood.
It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.
Revisited Real Live this week. I agree with some critics who say that Dylan is being over-the-top on this live disc, but love the version of I and I. This one is going back into the storage bin for a long time.
Because of this thread I decided to pick up my first Dylan album on vinyl. Had the 'Essential Bob Dylan' on mp3 for a while, but it was time to get a proper album...

And what a lovely one you picked out.

Thanks, am happy with it too, this thread mentions it a lot in peoples top 5 Dylan releases. I got another one the other day, will post here soon...
i always recommend people start with freewheelin or another side, and then the times they are a changin. any one of the three will make you appreciate his greatness before you even get into the later stuff.

Man, does Andy Samberg look like Dylan in that album cover photo.
Absolutely love Slow Train Coming, Saved is too preachy for me, and Shot of Love has a few good tunes but a few duds too
Yeah, I like the musicality of his "Got God Days" quite a bit, but I'm not big on a lot of the lyrics. I don't mind a bit of that thrown in with some artists even though I'm an Atheist (Joseph Arthur manages it very well, for instance), but Dylan got too into it for a while there - preachy indeed. I still like Slow Train Coming a lot, but I do find some of it distracting because of that factor.

That one is even better than Blonde On Blonde! Desolation Row is such a wonderful song. Ballad Of A Thin Man has this great unsettling quality. And Like A Rolling Stone is an absolute classic of course.
Listened to Modern Times yesterday. The album is only ten songs but comes in at a whopping 1 hour and 3 minutes. Average of six minute and 20 second songs!
PBS had the 30th Anniversary Concert on Friday night and so naturally, I had to go listen to Dylan. The question is, where to start? I may have to start all the way at the beginning and go on that crazy journey of listening to Bob's studio albums from "Bob Dylan" to "Tempest." Let the adventure begin!

Go for it! Dylan has the greatest discography of all time.

Listened to Bob Dylan and Freewheelin' last night and started The Times They Are A-Changing this morning. He certainly has one of the best. His '60s work ranks up there with The Beatles and one of the best for any artist in any decade. Not one bad album from the '60s; even his debut is good.
