Can someone please talk about their experience with waiting in line? Is it worth it? I'm going to the next two shows... I'm brining my girlfriend tonight and I don't think she's going to want to be fighting people off all night.
Also... what the heck do you do when one (or both) of you has to go to the bathroom?
We're considering the balcony... we'll definitely stand up so maybe we'll get people going up there.
Also, could you please tell me about what time people were let in, what time the various sets started, etc... We're leaving for the city at 12:00 today.. arriving around 1pm.
Thanks a ton. See you guys tonight!
It occurred to me that if you can get the balcony on either side of the stage close to the front, those would be awesome seats. I'm thinking about doing that tonight, just because I think the view would be better.
If you have a girl who is kind of short, she won't enjoy it on the floor where she can't see. It might be better for you up there.
everybody wants the most they can possibly get
for the least they could possibly do
Thanks for your post Meddledeal. I think I am convinced to run for the lower balcony, and not try to get there too early to pick up my 10c tickets. And Bart sounds like it will work to get back to the east bay.
One more question... is there any water/refreshment of any kind available for sale inside the venue? I checked the Bill Graham Civic Website, but there was not much information geared to attendees. and also-- is it true that we cannot bring in binoculars? sorry to beat a dead horse!
thanks,

yeah, they've got a full concession stand like you'd find at any show. I don't know about binoculars. you might not need them. this is a pretty small venue

i did not expect first night of 3 to be soooo explosive. the civic center rocked. i loved 'of the girl' to start the set. you knew from that one that we going to rock! no last kiss, no daughter, no betterman, and band did not disappoint. the energy was palpable.
a few notes: you dont really need binoculars. you can see from anywhere in the venue. i was in the balcony. it was so fun watching people rocking out on the floor. there is food, water, and prolly, way too much beer.=)
ed seemed a little "chattier" than usual. the band seemed to be having as great time as the rest of us.
i was expecting the set to change up since we were going to have 3 performances, but i have to say i was thrilled with the set list. ( even though i have a few SLOW favs that did not get played). this was a concert to remember. i recommend the boot- HIGHLY.
lots of oldies ! so those of us OLDies in the audience were singing along. great audience. greater night. greatest band!!

most of the folks in the balcony sat down the whole show. ugh.
/quote]
Absolutely nobody sat down where I was at the balcony!! I was pretty amazed with how much energy there was on the balconies actually!
And posters were easy to come by! They didn't sell out until the end of Sonic Youth - at least not on the balcony...
See you people tonight again:-)

The band seemed to be really enjoying themselves, and Eddie gave several shout outs to San Francisco. Although he said they hadn't played in SF proper for 8 years; last time I know of was 95 at the Polo Field.
Was there a show in 98 that isn't listed in the setlist page?
Another question: those of you 10 clubbers in the balcony in front of the side wheelchair section, what time did you get in line?
Jim
Last time was GGP, when Ed got sick, and Neil Young played with PJ.
Got in line at 5:30....CCFA pre-party. Honestly, seat was great but crowd around us sucked! I think I was the only one standing all night...great show..SD still my favorite performance in CA...

They sell water and soda at the food booths. Only food was hotdogs, nachos, and potato chips.
Also have beer, wine, and (what should be) cheap liquor for $7 a pop.
In the concession stands in the hallway (not the one in Polk Hall). I made the mistake of getting the hot dog and people sat down at the table beside me with pizzas. I missed it as well.

I brought in binoculars. They looked at them and let me in. It did not seem to be a problem.
Glad everyone had a great time! Cameras, can we bring them in? Read not earlier. Have a great time tonite! See ya Tues.
yes digi cameras allowed! i walked right in with mine in my hand.......
Also, they only hole punched the 10C tix (no wristband) and all i did was hold up my tick and walk right in.......... if youre daring and only have regular tix, punch a hole right above the "er" in "ticketmaster" / next to "presents" in "live 105 presents" and get in the 10c line. hehehehe...
First of all, my seniority isnt that great when it comes to ten club, only about 4 years in the club so my shots at front rows could of been shattered for a long time. But NOT THIS TIME, I got to be upclose on Mikes side and nothing can top this experience..the show was amazing!
Got a little rough when "Go" hit, i could barely get in position to enjoy it to the fullest but everyone started calming down after with the pushing and it just grew to be a great time. Mike was totally loving the crowd, pointing at certain ones he caught eyes with, me included (see pics)... Eddie came over to our side and danced a lil by Mike during "Alive" (also see pics) I just couldnt believe they were about 3 feet away...It was so fucking awesome. PARACHUTES!!! Opening with Of the Girl was awesome, and Even Flow right after the first encore was sick..it was like no let up, they jammed all night with a few breathers... Indifference, Bushleaguer, Footsteps...god, it just got better and better and BETTER... It was the funnest "Not For You" ...kicked so much ass! and "Gods Dice" was awesome, didn't expect it at all! obviously since its not been played since 2000. I LOVED how Eddie introduced "Sad" as "the lost dog" and finally I got to hear it for the first time.
Stone did this turkey head bob thing for about a min and was fuckin rocking out! I rarely saw Matt because of the speaker next to mike but he sounded amazing and Jeff was jumping around like crazy. "WHY GO".. "SAVE YOU".. "SPIN THE BLACK CIRCLE"... "Do THE EVOLUTION"... the setlist was incredible...GET THE BOOT I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

I was at SF1 last night with my brother. We got in before the non-10C attendees and were no more than 8 people from the stage when we got there - and that's with everyone sitting in pre-show mode.
After SY, I had to hit the restroom. One of the 10C folks near us that we'd been chatting with before SY had to go as well, so we cut a path off the floor and to the facilities.
Heading back in, I got no closer than twice the distance from the stage than where I'd started. I'm a fairly big guy, but the crowd density was simply too great to try to maneuver through.
So, instead of dancing around and singing with my brother, I danced and sang with another lovely bunch of fans. A couple of twits were doing their best to start a mosh pit, but I helped shut that down pretty quickly and all was great.
I had a Canon Powershot cam with me - no hassles getting it in. It wasn't even looked at by security. In fact, I'd emptied my pockets into my hands - they patted my front pockets and waved me in. It's either because they're slacking, or because I don't fit the profile of a risky fan, since I'm starting to look my age. Heh.
I couldn't get tix for tonight's show <sigh>, but I'm set for Tuesday and I can't wait. I'm also doing both Gorge shows - hope to meet folks who are heading there, too!

I freakin love Binaural, and Of the Girl I think is top 3 openers, and God's Dice is one of my favourite tracks ever...meant alot, I was pumped.
This was my fourth show, and I've never been closer than the worst possible 10c tix. Now I was on the rail!! Me and my best friend Sam were PUMPED, we rocked out so hard my neck is still hurting the next day.
I know it's nothing special, but Corduroy was simply amazing. So was Go...coming right after of the Girl, it felt like a nuke went off.
I'm soooo Glad they played Sad...one of my favourite B sides...all we need now is Hold On!!!
State of Love and Trust was fast and intense, and everyone sang along with Present Tense. I'm going to go listen to No Code now.
Ed went into a little helf drunked shpeel about vinyls that was pretty funny....he kept spinning his hands, saying "I'm not talking about cassettes, I'm not talking about CDs...I'm talking about that black circle that SPINS AND SPINS AND..."anyways somthing like that, it was funny...and STBC was intense, a little slower tempo though
You could really tell the band was feeling the crowd...they looked almost amazed! And this made me happy, cause I felt like we had something to prove after sucking big time at shoreline last tour.

I was at the Saturday night show (15th) and had an amazing time...really phenomenal. I did get my camera in (it was tucked away), but was hassled about the GPS unit in my backpack...after being hassled about the backpack first. I also heard them telling people they could not bring in their binoculars. Go figure. Anyway, I'm still going through the photos I took and haven't posted them yet but will share the link later. I ended up being in the balcony near the back, so not the closest shots. But for those who wanted to relive some of that night, here are links to my video's for Corduroy, Even Flow and Alive....enjoy....
