  • How were the singalongs and how loud was the crowd singing?
  • JeronimoJeronimo Posts: 30
Singalongs on A LOT of songs. Maybe, it was only the front part of the crowd, because I was standing in about the 15th row, so I don't know about the rest.

Best sing a long moments: Black (the end just didn't have an end; the crowd kept going for at least 1 or 2 minutes after the band stopped), first verse and chorus of Betterman (only crowd, no Ed), Alive, Jeremy (Ed: "I want you to help me out here"), even a part of Indifference (!).

I don't recall very well, cause I sang along with ALL songs :)

How loud? VERY loud! Get the boot, and listen to Black. You'll know what I mean.

I nearly died when I heard them soundcheck Hunger Strike... It was UNBELIEVABLE live!!!!!!!!! The 7 of us with ETB tshirts had a sign asking for Present Tense, and Mike saw it and nodded :) And then a couple of minutes later, out came the guitar and I nearly shat myself...

When the band came out for the first encore we threw 6 European Touring Bus tshirts on stage... Mike picked one up, read it, and smiled... and placed it on top of his amp at the back; Jeff hung it from his trousers and played the rest of the night with it..

I could never have imagined better Encores than we got last night - it was sublime.. I just wish I was still on the bus! Being on the bus made the experience so much better :D Oh, and wait until you hear the crowd's reaction to Black on the bootleg ;)

And for those who are interested: Ed fucked up the lyrics of Soon Forget :)
He also went for a smoke whenever he had the chance :)

Did anyone notice Stone leaning against the amplifiers during Matt's solo in Even Flow? It looked like he really didn't feel so good :\

Well this was a birthday I will never forget :)
When they began playing I couldn't believe I was actually looking at Pearl Jam
I had tears in my eyes.. I loved the playlist, apperently the crowd did too, the sing-a-long moments were great.

Really hope to see them again next year :)

Naaah, sorry, I "misformulated" my post. I was with some guys from Northern-Ireland (from RM as well) who showed that innocent finger. You guys were front row I believe. We were like 5th row, the Scots were right behind us. Anyway, it was all good fun until those stupid French came battling their way to the front.

That just breaks my journalist heart... One half decent question. One. And it's because Mike sorta handed it over to him. I mean: sure you don't have to know them like a hardcore fan, but a bit more research would have been nice.

    Mike handled it nicely though.

The Citizen Dick intro was a good effort though.
  • When I heard PJ was comin to Belgium I tried to get tickets as of the first minute. After three hours of calling and ordering via the internet, I got the message "SOLD OUT". I registered in case somebody would cancel their purchase.

I was lucky and got tickets after three weeks ... However I was sitting at the top of the Sportpaleis, instead of crowd surfin where the action took place ...

Anyway the concert rocked!!! They really play fenominal when playing live. Highlights Black, Better Man and Crazy Mary.

-> Is it easy to get tickets as a Tenclub member? If so I should become a member again! Next time I have to be in the middle of the action.

is it normal that i'm feeling quite lost after my first PJ-shows??
That I'm feeling very empty but happy and that i'm wondering around in a comfortable aimless manor after these 2 amazing days?

(I'm the clown on the left)

Once in, we headed straight for the front row, and I proudly hung my tricolour over the barrier. We were just left of centre, from Ed to Mike - 7 people take up a fair bit of room on the barrier :)

    Wolfmother rocked again:

And Jeff came out to get some snaps of the band - here he is sitting against the barrier literally 2 feet away:

Stone was REALLY getting into it last night; he looked like he was having an absolute blast...

And Mike McCready is just GOD...
    http://images.jaymac.info/album/albums/pearljam/normal_IMG_2947.JPG

Ed gave us a nice surprise by breaking out Luke the Uke for the first encore, and nobody cared that he messed up the words...

I did mention that Mike is God right?

I really don't know how to describe this evening, like some other people on this thread I waited a lousy 15 years for this cute little gig and I can simply say that it blew me the f**k away. The 10c tickets made the experience so much sweeter as I enjoyed this show to the fullest.

Don't know if Ed did this already but he changed the lyrics in WWS from "writing checks that others pay" to "writing checks that no one pays" ... made me think of my bank-account.

I sincerely hope they'll come back in 2007 for another european leg as Ed "promised". I really loved 'In Hiding', 'Black', 'Indifference', 'Soon Forget' and I just could go on and on, I mean the whole setlist was f**kin' ace!!! It made up for some absence on that one and a half decade they didn't show up!

    PS.: Aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!!

  • Pearl Jam, amazingly fucking awesome !!! They were perfect…
Belgian audience, amazingly warm, and that was what Eddie said, they were not expecting the Belgians to behave like that.
Lucky him that he was on the stage, close to the real fans, and not on a f… seating place surrounded by Belgians that stayed sit down until Jeremy (the song before the last in the first go). And here is the first negative point to Belgium: goformusic and ticketservice just couldn't handle the amount of people trying to access the site when the sells started, and so we ended up with this seating places...
And when I said the guys around us were seating, I really mean sit down! Seated and threatening those who wanted to stand, and jump and scream all single lyric… Do you imagine what is it? to listen to this list - Animal, Hail Hail, World Wide Suicide, Severed Hand, Not For You, In Hiding, Unemployable, Given To Fly, Even Flow, Present Tense, Do the Evolution – SITTING!!!??? JUST THE WORST VIB YOU CAN GET!!!
They almost destroyed our show, but Pearl Jam was greater than everything…
…after Jeremy, finally, PJ managed to turn put those ice freezing asses jumping.
The first Encore was never ending… I was afraid to see them leaving after every song… but they kept playing for our delight!!!
After all those songs, you could expect that they wouldn’t come back (as in London) but they DID, and what an Encore with Indifference, Hunger Strike, Baba O’Riley and Yellow Ledbetter with Mike finishing his solo alone in the stage … wowwww
1st time in Belgium? They played last year for the 1st time ever in South America (Chile, Argentina, Brasil, Mexico) … try to get those bootlegs and see how those guys touched the band, and if you manage to speak Spanish or Portuguese, maybe you will understand most of what Eddie said during those gigs…

That would have been the shit. Life Wasted (and REprise as well) is one of my favs of off the new album.
  • It was my first show ever as well. They couldn't do anything wrong ... the opener was my favorite song: corduroy!!! Absolutely stunning start for me, i was on the right side 'quiet side' of the stage, but i didn't care.

But the most beautiful moment was after the song Black the crowd keep on singing and singing dodododooodododoooo .... it was awesome

Iam looking forward to the bootlegs, up to paris, my second and last show.

  • I'm proud to be Belgian! What an amazing concert! I still have goose bumps! We really screamed our heart out, so Pearl Jam would certainly come back next year. Ed promised us that he would. I hope the will never forget Belgium!

    P.S. Come back!
Talkin' to herself, theres no one else who needs to know...
    She tells herself, oh...

  • There's a lot of comparing going on between Arnhem and Antwerp. Unfortunately, I was not in Antwerp on Wednesday. I've only seen the show in Arnhem. So it is hard for me to judge.

But there's a big difference in venues. Arnhem is footbal stadium with a capacity of 30.000 people. Antwerp is a sports venue with a capacity of 15.000 people. The athmosphere in Antwerp is much closer and the venue has a more intimate feeling.

Therefore it's a very big achievement that Pearl Jam got everybody of their seats in Arnhem and kept them dancing, jumping and singing for more than 2 hours.
For me, it was one of the best shows i've ever seen.
I'm very happy for all my Belgian friends that they had an even better show.

I will see PJ again in Berlin on the 23rd. So see you then.

    16/07/93 - Ahoy Rotterdam
25/08/95 - Pukkelpop Belgium - Neil Young with PJ
    06/11/96 - RAI Amsterdam
    29/08/06 - Gelredome Arnhem
    1993 - Rotterdam
1995 - Hasselt (with Neil Young)
    1996 - Amsterdam
    2006 - Arnhem / Berlin
    2007 - München / Düsseldorf / Scheeßel / Nijmegen / Werchter
    2009 - Rotterdam / Berlin
    2010 - Nijmegen / Berlin / Werchter

  • G'day folks,

just a little information about the Belgian crowd here.
Belgians love festivals and gigs,we have different festivals/gigs every weekend during the summer and when we go,we make sure to drink enough beers to be in the right mood offcourse :)
Rock Werchter for example has been voted for "best global festival" twice in 3 years. All international artists could vote for this, one of the criteria is the crowd and it must be said we stunned many artists with our respons.
If you have been to a gig in our country you hopefully know what I'm talking about. If you haven't been here, try to come over and experience it,it's worth it,believe me.
As for PJ in A'pen:legendary concert,I expected so much from them after 15 years but they gave so much more.Respect.

Keep on rocking and cya next year in Werchter ;)

    Yesterday is history
    Today a gift
    Tomorrow a mystery

i think the interviewer might have been a little nervous as his voice seemed to be shaky. nonetheless, those were some lameass questions. we have better journalists, why did they assign this rookie to do this interview? props to mike though for being so polite and dealing with it the way he did.
  • Finaly I can drop my photos inhere as well :)
First post inhere - so needed to wait a little to have permission.

    http://www.justdimi.nl
or http://www.myspace.com/justdimi for my photos...of the antwerp gig.

I have seen them few times before but never this close to where I live,so had to be there ofcourse. I am from the Netherlands but antwerp is only 25 km away so I chooce antwerp for 2 reasons - smaller venue and closer to home.
And I actualy hoped a bit for special treatment in Belgium because they never played there (not with eddy - once pukkelpop Neil young and the Band but is not the same ;)).
And a special treatment it was, not the 4 hours that where asked for on the shirt they throw on the stage, and also not the 6 hours we should must have had like eddy said, but we got hunger strike :)

I had a great night, and hope to have it again in less than 2 weeks because I was lucky enough to use my 10C membership to got tickets for BERN :)
( I tried others before bern but it all seemed to sold out in few minutes so better BERN than nothing ;)..
