I'm boycotting due to the jingoistic message of the festival's name.

For those of you without a conscience, have fun I guess.

Go buy a real hip hop record like Gang Starr Step into the arena or Immortal Technique revolutionary volume 2 or Any Wise intelligent album, so you can hear how an MC with talent spits fire...fucking Jay Z is a steaming pile...so u need 2 "STFU".

do you think somewhere there is a thread on like the Jay Z page talking about whether it should have been Pearl Jam or some obscure but legendary underground band "because PJ isnt real talent and blah blah blah -- obscure underground band is real
    rock and roll......"
because that would be almost as funny as this Jay Z vs ImMortal Kombat argument we have going

Yeah, the argument would only be relevant if you knew what we were talking about.

 okay we disagree on Jay Z's talent but this was hilarious

I went to Live8 on the parkway and what they did was have a barricade in a semicircle in front of the stage with seating for all the dignitaries, etc. So I assume this would be the same thing for the VIP section here. It's a weird area, there are trees in spots and statutes and they didn't allow people to congregrate on the street, so it's kind of weird and hard to explain. Sorry, I bet that didn't help you at all did it? :P

Why would that be? I'd like to think that everyone is open to different music than what they maybe listen to most of the time. And do you think that's what Pearl Jam would want? (that a bunch of people leave before they play?) I have often discovered new bands/new types of music because I was at some event a band I wanted to see was playing at. Perhaps everyone will discover some new new music.

I had VIP tickets for the July 4th free show a few years ago but the stage was further up the Parkway than at Live 8. it is not as far back as the Art Museum steps and Eakins Oval there. the main stage for July 4th was past or at that line of trees that i recall and VIP area was a fenced in area maybe 100 yards long and as wide as the tree lines. the area is much longer than it is wide.

here is a link to a map for the July 4th show. kind of a crude map but gives you a bit of an idea. would think this would be similar.

350 really isnt that bad i mainly look at them cause because of health issues i like to be in a crowd of as little people as possible and lounge areas also doesnt hurt when it comes to my issues

Gotta love how everyone is such an expert on "what will probably happen" at this festival (not referring to Jane!)

I agree with Jane...one of the best things about huge festivals is being able to give a look/listen to bands with whom you are unfamiliar, or in the case of many people here, too narrow-minded to ever considering checking out.

PHILADELPHIA - May 21, 2012 (WPVI) -- After a week of wait, the lineup for the music festival, to be hosted by Jay-Z in Philadelphia, has been announced.

The artists announced are: Jay-Z, Pearl Jam, Skrillex, Miike Snow, Afrojack, Calvin Harris, Odd Future, D'Angelo, Maybach Music (feat. Rick Ross, Wale, Meek Mill), Passion Pit, Santigold, Dirty Projectors, X, Janelle Monae, Prince Royce, Rita Ora, Savoy (DJ set), The Knocks.

The above list is being called Phase 1 of the Budweiser Made in America Fest.

i have not heard most of these people. jay z needs to get more rock, what about tool or a perfect circle, or soundgarden the other night pj isnt playing , matt can drum 2 days in row, or AT the drive in would be sick. just no more rap. whats an afrojack?

is there single day tickets for this? all i can find is 2 day festival pass tickets, there is gonna not sell single day tickets?

I highly doubt you will see APC this summer, Tool's only show, so far, will be in St. Paul, Minnesota. Puscifer will be there the next day...

yeah. that and the condescending tone in which some people voice their distaste for rap music. i just don't understand why people who don't want to go have to tell us why. no one cares why you aren't going. find another thread and talk about something you do like.

not to mention the fact that it seems people are confused about the types of artists which are on the current lineup. because it's actually pretty diverse, and will only become more-so as other artists are added. aside from pearl jam; there is rock, indie, hip hop, punk, r&b/soul, dub-step, and electronic music, all accounted for by performers on the bill. i think some people are just suggesting that this is some rap fest with pearl jam thrown into it, without even bothering to research the performers who they've probably never even heard of before.

I just don't get it.

I respect the fact that you don't like hip hop

however, have you ever listened to these albums:

It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back - Public Enemy

    Straight Outta Compton- NWA
