I met a music fan guy in the bookstore today and we traded stories about Neil Young.  I told him about my running the main spot light on Neil when Buffalo Springfield came to our high school to play but I wasn't informed that we were invited to meet the band after the show.   The other story was about how I was standing on a street corner in San Francisco waiting to get into see CSNY at Winterland and when I went back to where my buddies were standing in line one of them said, "Jeez, man, you didn't even say hello??"  "Huh?" I replied.  He said, "You were standing there, staring at the ground all dejected and Neil Young was standing right next to you staring at the ground looking all dejected and YOU DIDN'T EVEN SAY HELLO!" .  Still kind of blows me away that I missed two chances to meet Neil.

So anyway, this guy in the store today tells me he is from Detroit and back in the sixties he was in this hamburger joint and this long haired guy was in there with an acoustic guitar trying to work out some kind of song.  The guy told me that at the time he didn't know anything about Neil but that later on he read about how Neil had gotten stranded in town when the bands car broke down due to some engine parts being ripped off  so he went into this hamburger joint to get a bite to eat and sat down and wrote "The Old Laughing Lady".   And this guy was there when it happened.  Wow!!

    Great stories, Brian.
Even if you missed out on meeting him (twice!) your second one is still pretty cool.
Thanks. goldrush.  Yeah, I guess if I had to miss out at least it makes for a decent story!

Need to buy a.... RIAA-receiver(?) to get my record player working with my Yamaha-reciever. So can't play anything right now.

It's a crazy setlist. Mansion on the Hill, Like A Hurricane, Cortez, Cowgirl in the Sand, Thrasher!!!... these would be near the top of my list for any Neil show, but a solo acoustic show? Wow.

There's a pretty good audience recording out there already. Both of the new songs were on piano, and only the first half of Don't Be Denied was played before he gave up on it

    Is that all acoustic????

Ohio was electric solo when I saw him in Philly
  • goldrushgoldrush Posts: 7,542
Yeah, Ohio was electric. I think it always has to be, it's too angry to be played quietly!
The rest of the set was acoustic

If anyone is looking for a copy of the Original Release Series 8.5-12 on vinyl, Insound.com has it for $48 with free shipping. Live at Bluenotes Cafe is also on there listed at $25. Figure if anyone is looking to save a buck.

Also, very excited for the Monday and Thursday shows in Minneapolis!

this is the move. I haven't bought a Neil album when it was released (except Judy and Roxy) in years. If you wait a year or two they all get heavily discounted. Especially the new studio records.

Did they stream the sow on the 26th?

If not, then the 28th or 29th will be streamed?

They haven’t announced which one will be streamed yet. They didn’t stream the 26th but I wish they had!
Ambulance Blues and Mansion on the Hill were the first 2 songs; a 3-song run of See The Sky About to Rain, Broken Arrow, Thrasher... these are pretty great set lists on this tour.

They sent out an email with the ticket pickup process. Basically, stand in line, show ID, get your ticket, immediately enter the venue, no re-entry. Box office opens at 6pm. I won’t be down there till around 7:30.
