After a first listen to Talkin To The Trees, it’s the same as a lot of Neil’s newer stuff - when it’s good, it’s very good, when it’s bad…

    The Good:
I really like First Fire of Winter, it’s easily the best song on the album. It has some strong Helpless vibes, and the whole tone is warm and reflective.

    Talkin To The Trees
and Bottle of Love are really good too. Neil is definitely better on the quieter, introspective songs on this record.

    The OK:
Movin Ahead has some interesting instrumentation. I like it.
Big Change is loud and shouty, but doesn’t really say anything.
Thankful is a delicate and acoustic. A nice closer.

Silver Eagle is about his tour bus, Lets Roll Again is about cars, and they sound exactly as you’re expect them to.

    The Bad:
Family Life and Dark Mirage have the same theme of how he never sees his daughter or grandchildren. Dark subject matter that could’ve made for something great, but somehow they’re the exact opposite.

Hehe. Was a comment after the first listen of the new album :)

One thing you can say is that Neil keeps you on your toes. After Lets Roll Again and Talkin To The Trees, you might have expected another ‘environment’ album, but opening with Family Life and Dark Mirage really flips that. The lyrics are raw and honest, but full of hurt and loss. It’s as open as Neil as ever been, and it’s surprising to hear such vulnerability, but they could’ve been so much better.

I kind of dug Dark Mirage. Do need to listen to the the album again. But didn't it have some early 90s crunch to it.

Hopefully... worried he will cancel, after the California cancel-disaster of 2024 targeted at me. Me and my brothers start the 6h drive north Wednesday morning. Picking up my uncle on the way. A friend who has a 8h drive comes down from the north of Sweden.

But just now my mom said she can't look after my cat. So need to find someone who can look after her....

Then I'm going top copenhagen also (solo)

Yeah, we have to worry about cancelation.

I only have about a 2 & half hour drive but that's the closest to me and I figure this will be the last time I'll see NY.

Tonight’s set list looked good - was it Neil solo or also Chrome Hearts?

It was great. Sounded great. Neils voice was stronger than I thought but sugar mountain and needle and the damage done was shaky.

Cool as hell to throw in not one but two greendale songs and two ”unknown” CSNY songs.

    1h35m show for 200 dollars
