I ended up going to the show in SF last night. I don't know if Brian was hella drunk or... He seemed a bit off with a lot of long winded babbling and then bagging on someone's poster they made for a song request. Couldn't see the poster. Other than that, it was good to see them live again.

The poster thing is kind of a social media shtick. People will request a song, he replies only if they bring a poster to the show but it has to be beautiful.

I saw them last night….brian mentioned the vocal issues.
So, I guess I should cut them some slack but, damn, that show was very, very, very disappointing. 16 not great songs and they played for maybe 75 minutes. I had been looking forward to the show for six months. halfway thru (37 minutes) I was ready to bail but I wanted to see if we were getting chloe/SOLAT and I also wanted to try and get a hard ticket on the way out. I got neither. truthfully, I wish brian would have come out and said, “I can’t do this; go get a refund.”
that said, I was singing along to sink or swim on my way home from work today.
If I had known then what I know now...

That really sucks! Few things worse for concerts! I kept looking at the setlist on setlist.fm and was like this can’t be complete. Makes more sense now.

Caught the show in Minneapolis last night. Overall a good time.
Couple of things: 1. Brian’s voice was not 100%. He mentioned he was at 65%. 2. The band as a whole was a bit sloppy through the middle of the set. Turned it around for the final run of songs. 3. Played Chloe/SOLAT. Brian went on a tangent about PJ. Mentioned Ed gave him hand written lyrics for SOLAT at a show at London’s Hyde Park. Brian also mentioned he’s not a fan of Crown of Thrones and that’s why they play SOLAT instead.
Brian was on a podcast not long ago discussing the Singles soundtrack and he was complaining, in a nice way, that Chloe/CoT was pretentious because it was two songs and that it should just be one song.

Was at the Chicago show last night. I love TGA but holy shit Brian talks way too much....they had to cut 2-3 songs from the original setlist because he was rambling on in the middle of the set. At one point he went on for like 6-7 mins. It was rough. Monday night shows are brutal so just play some songs and get the crowd going! Really hope they play somewhere besides the Riv next time in Chicago....worst venue in the city.

Same at SF show. I actually don't like when musicians don't do a little bantering, but his went on so long at times that I was kinda worried. His banter seemed off and the band seemed uncomfortable. The music was great!

In KC there was a good 25 minutes plus of talking. It was a little better in Minneapolis the next night, but still quite a bit. I don't mind some, but it was more than usual so I wonder if he was taking time to recover between songs as he was still under the weather.

Have seen them a ton of times over the years. Ever since the year or so before the hiatus and into Brian’s solo tours his “banter” has increased and become worse and worse. He’s rarely funny, and rambling and worst of all thinks he’s hilarious. And there’s a whole contingent of fans that love it. It’s borderline uncomfortable and I’ve found it takes away from the shows.
And I’m someone who doesn’t mind talking from the band, especially Ed. I think most of the time what Ed has to say adds to the show. This does not.
I agree the band seems uncomfortable as well and there’s probably not much they can say about it.
Either way I still love this band and can’t wait for the NJ show. Just shut up Brian.
I knew The Gaslight Anthem was going to be in Pittsburgh soon, but didn't realize it was tonight. I could get a general admission ticket for like $45 after fees and head over to the venue, but it is a little too late and I am starting to get sick. Damnit!!!
Saw them last night for the first time in NYC. Great show. I loved the venue. The crowd was hyped. Brian does talk a lot but it didn’t bother me too much. He made a joke about how much he talks on stage. They covered SOLAT. It was a decent cover but made me sad the Pearl Jam tour is over.

Last night was a good and fun, but not amazing show in DC.
Brian's voice declined quite a bit even compared to the 9:30 club shows 4 years ago. First few songs had really weird vibes. I dont think Gaslight is able to pull off the slow burn openers the same way that PJ can. The energy started out really weird and weak, made worse by having such a high energy opener like Jeff Rosenstock. I even asked myself if they even really wanted to be there after the third song.
They definitely found a groove when the 59 sound songs and other hits started rolling. Setlist was ok. Some of the songs like Keepsake, Mae, Queen of Lower Chelsea, etc fall in the lower half of my TGA song ranks, and would have loved to see more of Sink or Swim featured. The 59 Sound remains their best album, and those songs remain their greatest successes in the live setting, in my opinion, and that was reiterated last night.
I'll go if they're super close again in the future, but a small part of me wishes the 9:30 club shows remained my last memory of them, as those are two shows that I put up there with some of my favorite shows ever

I saw them in KC and Minneapolis, the first 2 shows after the Denver cancellation due to Brian's sickness. He was noticeably struggling in KC, and he was quite a bit better in Minneapolis. I've always noticed it takes 3-4 songs for his voice to "warm up" anyway, but I wonder if he's still feeling some after effects of whatever sickness he had. I still enjoyed the shows, but I'd agree it was not quite the same as when I've seen them pre-hiatus. As others have mentioned, the longer talking sessions that seem to make the rest of the band uncomfortable are a bit weird as well.

Brian says new album should be finished recording in January and mixing in February with shows starting late spring early summer and continuing through end of year. Exciting news!
