I met Alex Levine, the bass player, this afternoon! My daughter and I ran into Wegmans (supermarket chain in the northeast) to pick up a a few things for dinner and I spotted him near the meat department.  I was instantly 99% certain it was him.  I know he owns a barber shop in Bradley Beach which is about 10 minutes away.  He had a long sleeve t shirt from the Asbury Park speed shop on so I could only spot one tattoo which was on his neck.  I did a quick google search to confirm the tattoo on his neck was the same to spare myself any embarrassment if it ended up not being him.  Then I ambushed him while he was picking out some prepackaged salads.  He was super cool and gave me a fist bump.  I told him how much our family enjoyed the music.  He was so gracious and just kept saying thank you. I probably talked to him for around a minute or so but it felt like 10 minutes.  We talked about the upcoming tour with counting crows and he told me “it’s going to be a long summer” and kind of rolled his eyes.  We talked real quick about the stone pony and a couple of other local spots. I didn’t want to overstay my welcome so I tried to keep it short and just thanked him for all the great music  and got out of there.  Also other people nearby were picking up on the conversation and I could tell they realized this guy wasn’t the average supermarket shopper.  Super nice guy and so cool to meet him.  🤘🏻

That's awesome. It's so cool to meet people you admire and find that they are chill. I've always wanted to talk with Brian about music and all of the references he makes in his music.

That's great, he really is a good guy.  Alex used to cut my hair when he worked in the shop in Asbury.  The first time I went to that shop, I randomly made an appointment with him based on who was available when I was.  I was somewhat familiar with GA at the time, but had no idea who he was.  When I was sitting in the chair and he was chatting with me, he eventually told me he played in a band and when he told me it was GA I was completely blown away.  I went back to him numerous times (he is a really great barber!) until the shop raised their prices beyond my budget. These were the years that the band was on hiatus so he was keeping busy working in the shop and I think he had a newborn at home as well.  I never wanted to press him too much to talk about the band but he did share a few cool stories.

That’s so cool he cut your hair!  Seems like such a down to earth guy.

I know before he had his own place he was cutting hair at Swagger & Blade in Wanamassa and I would always keep my eye out for him there but I never saw him. 😣  But I had to stop going there… the owner, Shane, was just too much sometimes.

The Jersey Shore BlueClaws, Official League, and New Jersey’s own The Gaslight Anthem are teaming up for the first time ever to bring fans an unforgettable night of baseball, music, and hometown pride. On Thursday, May 22nd, the three will debut an exclusive capsule collection as part of the second drop in Official League’s groundbreaking Local Legends series, with a special appearance by the band at ShoreTown Ballpark during the BlueClaws’ game against the Brooklyn Cyclones.

The band will be in attendance at the ballpark that night, and the BlueClaws have also launched a limited ticket and merch package available now BY CLICKING HERE, which includes the following:

    • One game ticket to the May 22nd game
    • Your choice of an Official League wool or corduroy hat from the new collection
    • Guaranteed merch access (quantities are limited—first come, first served)
    • Hat pickup available during the game in the Sand Bar, located along the left field concourse

The full collection will be released online at store.thegaslightanthem.com/ and blueclaws.milbstore.com/ on May 22nd. The collection will include the wool and corduroy hats, and four premium outerwear options.

The night will conclude with post-game fireworks, giving fans one more reason to make May 22nd a can’t-miss celebration at ShoreTown Ballpark.

This new release marks the first official collaboration between The Gaslight Anthem and the Jersey Shore BlueClaws, and the second installment in Official League’s Local Legends series—a five-part campaign that celebrates the connection between iconic musicians and their hometown Minor League Baseball teams. Launching in April with the sold-out Fall Out Boy x Iowa Cubs collection and rolling out monthly through August, the Local Legends series brings together the raw energy of live music and the hometown passion of MiLB for exclusive, limited-edition collections that embody the soul of each city.

“We're thrilled to partner with The Gaslight Anthem and Official League on this amazing collection,” said BlueClaws General Manager Bob McLane. “The Gaslight Anthem has a great following here at the Jersey Shore and the chance to welcome them to the ballpark is very exciting for us. We can't wait for May 22nd.”

"The Gaslight Anthem are Jersey icons, and this collection is a tribute to that legacy," said Monique Gilbert, Vice President of Music at Official League. "We're proud to bring this partnership to life alongside the BlueClaws in a way that merges baseball, music, and local pride into one unforgettable night."

Geez. I just looked up reviews of Ace of Spades in Sacramento. Bad. I thought something might be off since they offered the bullshit fast lane for extra money and some exclusive bar pass for extra. Sounds like that place was bought and is frequently oversold with bad sight lines for most people in the venue. Sucks. I really wanted to see TGA.

Took in a Counting Crows show last night in Toronto (great show) and The Gaslight Anthem opened. I am not overly familiar with them, but surprisingly, they covered Chloe Dancer. Great version of it. Their set was great as well but I was pleasantly surprised to hear Chloe.

Glad you liked the show.  I bought tickets for the show here in New Jersey at the end of the month.  Counting Crows in the late 90s was the worst concert I’ve ever seen.  But I couldn’t pass up a chance to see Gaslight Anthem again. Especially after they dropped the lawn tickets to $30.

We went to last night’s show here in New Jersey.  Loved the setlist.  Too short but it was awesome.  They really need to play back here in NJ soon. Also loved that they came on stage to the Sopranos theme song.

I was tempted to bail right after Gaslight was done but I wanted to give Counting Crows another chance.  They were better than the first time I saw them but we ended up leaving halfway through the set.  The band was really good but Duritz just seemed uninspired.  He seemed out of breath a lot, he recited some lyrics instead of singing them and let the crowd take a bunch of high notes.  Not terrible but not good enough for us to hang in for the whole show and it felt like a letdown after TGA played. A lot of people seemed
to be leaving early as well. Super happy we went for the opener though.  😁
