dude wants to spend $4m on ads touting their environmental record!?? ... like seriously? ... you gutted our environmental laws, you've done nothing on global warming (in fact - you did worse than nothing by sabotaging climate talks globally) and you are pushing 2 pipelines that are gonna have major environmental consequences ... like how much of an asshole does this fucker want to be?

that's just the friggin' law from before ... that was one of the problems in the valdez spill ... exxon said they would have double-lined hulls and that they would have state-of-the-art sonar ... but guess what - they didn't want to pay for it and no one holds them accountable ... same thing here ...

thats why I didn't really pay attention to the ad...I was pretty sure the info was inaccurate...I think if you want real environmental protection we'll need to elect the NDP...even though I am so frustrated the with current system I'd like proportional representation looked into as an alternative...

oh for sure ... two things:
1. where have all the progressive conservatives gone?
2. i hope we never get another majority gov't
This is why the senate needs to be abolished...our elected MP's actually voted unanimously and passed a private members bills (NDP Joe Comartin)...and our unelected senate is set to vote against the bill. So the very time it seems all three parties cooperated and passed a private members bills, especially a private members from the opposition the unelected senate actually wakes up because a bunch of lawyer from sports league lobby them.
This bill would have had major impact in helping casinos survive...
This is why all lobby needs to be banned ...

How about an elected senate? As Canadians people should feel good that our elected politicians actually unanimously supported a bill introduced by the opposition...it shows the system can work. Its a good bill...it will help struggling casinos. I don't care if the greedy professional sports league don't like it...it will not effect their leagues one bit...they just don't want people too make money unless they get a cut...if the casinos offered them a piece of the action they'd be all in with support. Got news for them people are single game gambling already.

yes Harper really followed through on that elected senate...the NDP are for abolishing it. A checks and balance system would be nice...

I think the problems there have been with trying to change the senate, is that to pass a bill to change so that senators are elected, you have to get approval of the current appointed senate. Of course those guys, who have the cushiest jobs in all of government aren't going to approve reform that would mean they would have to go out and campaign and get elected. Why would they?

well ... the conservatives control the senate ... shouldn't be that hard if they really want to do this ...

Answer to questions
1. The Liberal Party
2. The conservatives will win another majority again, unless there is some kind of co-operation on the left or a major scandal from the cons
2. The conservatives will win another majority again, unless there is some kind of co-operation on the left or a major scandal from the cons
i'm not so sure ... i think these omnibus bills will come back to haunt him ... it really depends on where the liberal party is headed ...
There were many things that should have sunk the cons last election but the electorate has a short memory. But the main point is that the numbers just aren't there for a progressive minority/majority government. The left vote will split again and the cons will cruise to victory again.

If Justin Trudeau becomes Liberal Leader, anything could happen. I think he could probably completely turn the party around as far as getting people to vote Liberal goes, because Canadians are suckers for the Trudeaus. I wouldn't vote Liberal, but I still think he could turn it around for them so much that it would at the very least get the Cons into a minority gov't again.

well ... i would say not as much as there is now ... his agenda has definitely opened up with his majority ... plus the dysfunction of the liberals added to that ...

i'm not too sure if he's ready ... and in this day and age ... this could ultimately sink the liberals even further ... the conservatives are going to come out guns a blazin' on whoever is the liberal leader and if he/she can't handle it - it'll set the liberal party back another decade ...

Oh, I have a totally different take. I think Trudeau will totally raise the party from the dead. I think Canadians, especially younger ones, are itching for a younger and more energetic leader, and that's how he'll come off.

i'm not so sure a private members bill from the opposition is at the top of Harper's list
i do think it really shows that government can work for the people ... unfortunately a bunch of unelected officials are being ridiculous
besides i saw the opportunity to make some easy coin ... drop a 100 on the leafs opponents ... i kid :P

never thought he'd end up in the top 10 of longest serving prime ministers.
Just seeing that in writing makes me want to puke.
I know ... but some how he managed it ... I also don't think he'll leave the conservatives a mess either (like the federal liberals are, or as the Ontario liberals are headed) he wants to leave the party in good shape ... imo ...
I've also read some opinion pieces that say he might leave well before the next election ... so time will tell.

the guy has become a master politician ... he has also cultivated a strong political base ... he has absolutely zero fear of accountability because no one who voted for him cares to do so ...
looks like gerard kennedy is indeed running for provincial leadership ... i like him ... from the list - it's good to see that guys like duncan aren't running and it kinda shows that they recognize what's wrong with the party ...
