Do you even know the context the term "death panels" was first used? It was used by Sarah Palin describing a panel that would determine what would or wouldn't be paid for by the government. It may not have been accurate but it's also a far cry from claiming that the government would euthanize people. So people claiming that Palin or Fox News ever said that Obama's plan would force senior citizens to be judged by a death panel that determined if they lived or died misrepresented the quote. Does that make those people repsonsible for this woman's death since she clearly seemed to believe their interpretation of the quote? I'm guessing nobody who blames Fox News will also blame themselves.

yeah ... fed to her by a right wing think tank ... and then ran with by fox news ...

listen ... no one is saying fox news is to blame except the son in this case ...

but if you guys can't see how the PR and propaganda machine contributed to this woman's death - i'm not too sure what else to say ... we've already said that the woman and to a certain degree the family have to take personal responsibility ... but the fact is - she would have went to the doctor if she wasn't brainwashed into believing lies ... lies perpetuated by fox ...

Who equated "death panels" with euthanasia? Palin? I don't think so. She sai the government would refuse to pay for health care in some instances and referred to the people making those decisions as a "death panel" (and she used quotes when she wrote it). Somehow, that was reported as Sarah Palin claiming that the "death panels" would be euthanizing people, like in this article:
In a Facebook posting, the former GOP vice presidential candidate claimed that Obama's scheme will create a "death panel" promoting euthanasia.
    http://articles.nydailynews.com/2009-08 ... ealth-care

    Now for Palin's quote:
The Democrats promise that a government health care system will reduce the cost of health care, but as the economist Thomas Sowell has pointed out, government health care will not reduce the cost; it will simply refuse to pay the cost. And who will suffer the most when they ration care? The sick, the elderly, and the disabled, of course. The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's "death panel" so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their "level of productivity in society," whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil.

That sounds to me like she was warning against the government rationing health care and there's no mention of euthanasia. So who was it that said "death panels" would equal euthanasia?

    BAHHHHM !

How can we read the exact same Sarah Palin quote and you not see anything evil in talking about "elderly standing before a death panel"? Come on - that was a big fat lie, just like almost everything the GOP says these days.

Has anyone from the right wing ever come out and said "I'm sorry - there are no death panels"? I've never heard it. Ridiculous.

Also, I don't think you can forcibly take an adult to a hospital, so some of you might be presumptuous in blaming the family. It seems we don't have all the facts here, so we can't quite blame Fox News or her family at this point.

Of course, I don't see how anyone can deny that Fox News spreads false information.

I said that it may not have been accurate, but it is still a far cry from asserting that the government will decide to force euthanasia on the elderly. If you read the entire quote it's obvious that she's talking about rationing health care to save money and that people (not just the elderly, either) will suffer because of it. The term "death panels" was clearly rhetoric and the left ran with it and turned it into "Sarah Palin said Obama is going to force euthanasia on people." For the record, I searched "Sarah Palin euthanasia" and "Sarah Palin euathanasia quotes" in Google and all I came up with after 5 pages was the Facebook post I quoted in my other post. I did find articles accusing her of making false statements about euthanasia (such as the article I linked to and quoted) but they all seem to use that same Facebook post.

    If I may answer this:

Everyone here seems to be saying that the woman was afraid of being euthanized against her will and that it's Fox News' fault for reporting that. I pointed out the true context of the term "death panels" had nothing to do with euthanasia and that it was editorials from people on the left that made that connection and reported it as a fact that she had said it. So if you want to blame someone for planting that fear in tis woman's head, then you have to look at how the pundits on the left twisted her words and reported their false interpretation as factual information. Personally, I don't blame anyone but the stubborn old woman herself--and even then there's no guarantee that she would still be alive today if she'd gone to the hospital.

"Rationing health care" is a very small step from euthanasia, even if she didn't directly say it. And, yes, the RIGHT WING ran with it.

Pretty soon we'll be back to birth certificates I guess.

You can take an elderly parent to the hospital who is in a life threatening situation.
Leading up to this point when the family was seeing her irrational behavior much can be done
that a responsible family would have done.

I actually did read it. I 'd just like to point out that I find it pretty ironic that wikipedia is being cited in a thread that claims Fox News isn't a valid news cource.

I never said the right didn't harp on the term "death panel." What I'm saying is that the people here who are saying that Fox News, Sarah Palin, etc. equated "death Panels" with euthanasia are wrong. It was the left who turned that quote into that and they ran with it for the purpose of making Palin look stupid (or stupider). All of the articles I found that linked Palin's use of "death panels" with euthanasia were written by people on the left. She never made that connection and I didn't find any articles in 5 pages of results that showed Fox News making that connection. Palin was talking about a denial of care or minimal care when she equated that section of the bill to a "death panel." So if this woman was afraid of what Palin called a "death panel" as it was used by Palin and Fox News, as far as I can tell she would have been afraid of being denied care at the hospital. If she was afraid of being euthanized, then she was afraid of what the pundits on the left reported as the meaning behind Palin's words. In either case, it was her choice to stay home and if any family members or friends were unable to convince her to get medical help then it's because she didn't want it and not because Fox News or editorials on the left misled her.

    Actually... those are facts:
FOX News broadcast those stories along with tons of commentary on thos topics disguised as news.
She was stupid because she believed it to be news (journaliasm) because they present it as journalism, not as editorial.
She died based upon her idiotic assumptions that FOX News actually delivers 'news'.

Remember how Obama was going to take away everyone's guns... so crazy fucking people ran out and bought up guns and ammo after the election?
Remember how Obama was going to indoctrinate the little children with a televised message at the beginning of the school year.. and fucking nutcases freaked out and kept their kids home?
Remember how Obama 'Nationalized' all of the banks, General Motors and Chrysler?
Then, there were the 'Death Panels' and the vaccinations ahead of the flu season.
