The east coast band wagon is a wagon of people whom most think that they get the best shows or PJ loves them more then any other place in the world. They are the ones who continually come on this board and say that PJ by far played the better shows of the tour here. (on the east coast.) I apologize if I have you wrong, but the band wagon does exist and it is rather sickening.
ahh, i see. im not into that shit. I just like getting out to shows, wherever they are.

People are desperate to feel special and better than others - it's only been made exponentially worse since this whole internet fad has caught on. They want to feel like their experience somehow transcended everyone else's. And I doubt it's too far a reach to guess they're the same people with the unenthused faces full of entitlement in the front rows at every damned one of the 35 or so PJ shows I've ever been to.
Anyway, in less retarded news, I heard a recording of Hurt surfaced. Anyone seen it?
and this is why I don't post here anymore. I was really open about my opinion. I like the guys response who said he's in his own little world. That made sense. Then he went and told me to fuck myself. That was lovely.
I'll say goodbye folks. Geeze.
OK. I will agree some people enjoy shows in other ways. BUT do any of you recall how Pissed Pearl Jam was at the fan club section because they were so apathetic at the United Center two years ago? I mean it was so bad they changed the seniority rules!
Anyway, my real point was it's fine if you don't want to sing along to every song, trust me I do not sing to elderly woman or better man anymore either, but when it is a song that has a specific call and response with the audience and when there's the crippled inspiration of the song 20 ft in front of you and you stand there tight lipped, not moving etc I found it amazing you would not join in with the rest of the crowd WHEN YOU"RE GOING TO MULTIPLE SHOWS AND ON THIS BOARD AND MOST LIKELY IN THE FAN CLUB! If they were casual fans I would not have had the issue.
That was my point.
Maybe you had to be there to understand with the emotion of the moment etc. It just stood out how apathetic the folks were who were clearly multi-show goers. That's why I wanted to bring it up here. To get a debate. Some people here clearly think its perfectly fine to stand still during a show and I'm not talking during the sit-down songs when we were all sitting down of course. Now I know. I wondered how many people felt like me about it though. Perfectly legitimate of me to bring it up IMO.
When I went and saw Pearl Jam in London the place was insane compared to a U.S. show. Even Lolla was nuts compared to the UC shows the past few tours (Riot Act and Avocado).
To me personally, if you're not into it at some point of the night (these folks were duds the entire show) there's something wrong with you.
I understand. I'm sure that a lot of people in the 10C seats were given those "special tickets" to the 10C area and had no idea what was going on. I know in the shows that I went to, they were giving out tickets to the first three rows that had shitty sits to begin with.
I gotta agree with the fact this has turned into a real crappy FANVIEW. I came on here to hear the ten clubbers experiences and how EDDIE VEDDER made you all feel and some stories about you time going to see our favorite front man. I could careless where the best show has been played. I went to 2 on the East Coast but EASILY woulda gave one up to see No more last night with T. Young. So can we stop the 3rd grade bickering and talk quality of music and entertainment for maybe just a couple posts?

EV SOLO-- NYC 1 and NJPAC
Enough of the drama and heavy handed opinions. I think we can all agree that "we" all love the band and our own small personal experiences that we have had with seeing the band/EV. So this "East Coast", "West Cost", "Real Fan", "Fake Fan" shit is getting ridiculous. If we were not true fans fans we wouldn't be on this board talking about the shit. But lets all stop and smell the jam for a minute......... We are extremely lucky to have a band that means so much to so many, in a time of a commercial horse-shit music industry filled with one hit wonders! That, by the way, tour once every three years and put an album out every four. We as fans should be so appreciative to be able to enjoy PJ/EV right now, for it will not last forever. There are not many bands that stand for anything, much less appeal to so many people as PJ/EV does. My daughter is four years old and I let her listen with PJ in the car with me and she bobs her little head back and forth, smiles and loves it. It makes he happy too. I can only hope that one day when my daughter is older there will still be a PJ out there for her to see. I just can't wait to take her.................
Found the song on my own. Interesting, but that overemoted caricature baritone he uses sometimes really bothers me. He does it a lot in the song, especially the 'everything' in the last line of the first verse. It could've been more of a Crazy Mary kind of feel. But it's still cool I guess.
I know this is a long shot, but I thought it would be worth a try. On Thursday night, at some point during or after the show, I lost my ticket (Pit row DDD). I'm hoping that someone on this board may have come across it and picked it up. Because that show was particularly memorable, the ticket has sentimental value to me, and I'd like to get it back if possible.
If someone does happen to have it, and is willing to return it to me, I could offer cash, a poster, posters, or a donation to a charity of that person's choosing as a reward. I'm completely open for discussion.
Please respond on this thread, or via pm if you happen to have it, or know somebody who might. If I don't get it back, it's not the end of the world or anything, but I thought this was worth a shot. Thanks!
First off, the line Ed mentioned about set lists was genius. Something like:
"I've been doing this for 17 years so I don't need some fucking amateurs helping me out...."
I believe he actually said fucking rookies, but close enough I suppose. Either way it was a great line, and I thought set the tone for the crowd being cool and not yelling stupid random shit out all night.
This show was definitely my favorite out of the two nights. Eddie was in such a fun, good mood.. The music was excellent and for some reason, it seemed really emotionally intense. My eyes teared up every now and then (like many people, when Tomas Young was on stage).. When Eddie sang I am Mine, I got a little emotional.. For some reason that song gets to me.. The crowd was wonderful. I was unfortunately directly behind the guy who pissed himself so that sucked but it wasn't enough to ruin the night for me.
I went to Milwaukee and both Chicago shows and this was definitely my favorite of the 3. I didn't know the meaning behind Arc before this show but the girl I went with told me so that gave the song a whole new meaning.
Before the show, I ate at the restaurant on Michigan Ave. right by the back alley where Eddie came in and out of the theater. I was wearing an ITW shirt and this guy comes up to me and says I should talk to the waiter because Eddie Vedder was there eating like 20 minutes ago. So I ask the waiter and he says no, it was Eddie Van Halen. I asked him if he was sure it wasn't Eddie Vedder. He said the guy had kind of long, scraggly hair. I said, "That sounds like Eddie Vedder!" The waiter says, "No, he has some concert tonight." I said, "That's Eddie Vedder!" Again, the waiter said no, that he was performing at the United Center and he was certain it was Eddie Van Halen. So... I don't know which Eddie it was.
Also, I met Eddie after the show, right at the end of the back alley on the sidewalk of Michigan Avenue! The girl I was with and I waited and he came out at 1:45 A.M. There were a couple of decoy departures by the white van, but the friendly security guard led us to think (without actually telling us) that Eddie was still in the theater. Special thanks to the asshole who went off on the security guards who nicely asked us to clear a path for the alley since it was an emergency exit and he and his buddies refused to move saying, "This is public property, blah, blah, blah." That got us a little visit by the Chicago police telling us all we had to leave or otherwise be arrested for trespassing. Huh, funny... once the cops showed up, guess who was the first one out of there, hiding out behind the bus stop? Asshole and his buddies. Why didn't you try your rant about the sidewalk being public property to the cops? And the cop made some comment, "If you think you're going to see a celebrity or something tonight, you're not, they've already left." Whatever, dude. Well, everybody spread out down the street and the cops eventually left and we made our way back to the alley.
Anyway... 1:45, Eddie's guard comes down the alley and says Eddie is going to sign one thing for everybody and that if he sees even one camera, Eddie won't come down. Then here comes Eddie frickin' Vedder strolling down the alley, with a cigarette hanging out his mouth. It was so surreal! There were maybe 20 or so people left. We had all been bull-shitting all night, but when Eddie got down to us, suddenly we were all speechless! When he saw how many people were there, he said he didn't want to sign anything but he would stay and talk for a minute. He shook every person's hand and looked each and every one of us in the eyes. Afterwards, the girl I was with commented how long he shook our hands. Finally, we determined that we were the ones that let go of the hand shake. Eddie didn't let go until each person was ready to let go. Damn it! Why didn't I hold on longer? Of course I had so much I wanted to say to him, but all I was able to get out was thank you and it was a great show. The only person who really said anything else was this girl that said her husband/boyfriend (can't remember) was an Iraq veteran and Eddie said he was glad he was back safe.
After a couple minutes, Eddie headed back down the alley, hopped into the front seat of the van and rolled out on his way. He had his window down, arm hanging out with the cigarette in his hand and I don't know if he said anything or not... I was too overwhelemed by what just happened. After he was gone, I was shaking and started crying... well, more like sobbing. The girl I was with started crying, too. Then we were lauging through our tears because we couldn't believe how emotional we were about meeting Ed. It was one of the best moments of my life, even though I didn't get to tell Ed what he truly means to me. AND, the best part of it all was that after having this awesome experience, I got to go to another show the next day! What a great dream come true!

I have a copy of Betterman slow version from night one in Chicago. The picture is sort of bad because I was trying to limit the light exposure from my camera to keep from bothering those around me, but the sound quality is good.
Thing is, I can only figure out how to download the avi file to my desktop. If someone wants to pm me their email address, I can email it to you and then have you post it (how nice of you~!)
And before anyone asks, I don't have a copy of Hurt. I only wanted to record one song because I didn't want my camera to be a distraction and I don't really care for that song to begin with.
(let me know if this is against the rules. I've lurked this board for years but never have posted anything like this before. Thanks!)

That was me! It was my husband. I said, "Eddie, this is my husband. He's an Iraq vet." Ed said, "Well I'm glad you're home safe." He shook both of our hands, and he looked at me and said, "That must have been..." and he sort of held his fist to his heart (as in, that must have been tough for you). My husband said, "Thanks for keeping her sane while I was gone." I said, "Yeah, I went to a few shows while he was gone." Ed laughed and then moved on. What a night!
Another funny thing that happened, I'm not sure if you saw this or not, but there was a blond girl and a few guys she was with. They kept saying, "Ed's gone, I definitely saw him in the van. Go to the Four Seasons in 10 minutes if you want to meet him. I promise you guys, he definitely left." So then their little group left, and a half an hour later, the white van comes back, and Ed comes out- classic!
did he say this , really:

What the...? Which night was that, Thursday or Friday? Because I waited till about 2:30 AM after the Friday show (I didn't have anything else to do that night) and never saw him. I should have stayed up Thursday night and skipped work! Happy for ya!
Thanks!)

It was Thursday night. You should've stayed! Come on now... where's your priorities, work or meeting Eddie Vedder?
I know where my priorities will be next time they come to town.
i was in DDD on Friday night, didnt see it...
The lost ticket was miracuously recovered. Thanks again to C186, and everyone else who offered their tickets, gave advice, etc.
I promise you guys, he definitely left." So then their little group left, and a half an hour later, the white van comes back, and Ed comes out- classic!
so, i am glad that someone else enyoud it
great
"I've been doing this for 17 years so I don't need some fucking amateurs helping me out...."
