I love Zeppelin and The Beatles as much as anybody, but I think they accomplished too much for this conversation. I'm not sure how staying together would've benefited them. I include the Doors in this as well, but personally, I think their career was too long.

This topic is length of career. The Beatles as a successful band were together a shade over 5 years. Of course they put out 2 album per year most of that time but still was way too short.

I agree with you about Zeppelin though. They shouldn't be on this list.

the beatles were around for ten years. 1960-1970. started recording with their well known lineup (w/ringo starr) in 1962. so give them 8 years considering that.

and i completely agree with dewie cox. the beatles accomplished so much in that time, and then we got the solo careers out of them. not sure we would've benefited as fans by having the beatles around as a group longer than they were. same goes for zeppelin.

    Culture (with Joesph Hill)

    Nirvana

    Sublime

As much as I liked Sublime, I don't know how long that style would have lasted. I could be wrong with that, but I sure loved them when they were around though.
I agree with this...I think they would have travelled the same path jeremy lin is destined to go down. But I would've loved to see where they could have gone.
I echo CCR and The Doors for sure.

I will add SRV...he had 10 or so highly productive years but still far too short

oh god. are we really injecting jeremy lin into this discussion? WOW! clearly a bitter boston fan here. go GIANTS!

Honestly the last thing that Boston Fans would be jealous of are Knicks fans. Even 76ers fans aren't jealous of the Knicks. hahahahahahaha

boston has a major inferiority complex when it comes to new york. it really doesn't matter what the team is. my gmen just beat the pats in the super bowl! and then the media seamlessly shifts to an out of nowhere point guard phenom starting for the new york knicks....trust me, this is killing bostonians everywhere.

they released an ep, then their first album, did a couple of tours, got a decent sized write up in rolling stone, and promptly imploded....sad, because that first album is one of my all time faves...

 I actually do not care about the NBA whatsoever and I actually threw that in for RM22's sake since i so enjoyed reading his argument about Lin yesterday.
And yeah...I am a Boston fan in Mizzip...but I was pulling for the Giants since I wanted my boy Eli to have more titles than his Volunteer brother. Go Giants...I'm with you on that one

Still i should note that I do have the same stance on Lin's staying power as RM22 does. :D
    Ok..no more Lin :D
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow

That's because your basketball IQ is very high. All these Lin fans are fair weather fans that latch on to the next big story, kind of like all of the Tebow frauds out there.

If he played anywhere but NY, people still wouldn't know who he was just like they didn't for the last 6 years he's played organized basketball.

it isn't my intention to hijack the thread and turn it into a jeremy lin debate, but this statement is asinine. lin has been playing great basketball, and has had arguably the best series of games to begin his career as a starter in nba history.

the only thing similar about tebow's story is the way the media has not stopped talking about it. tebow is an overachiever who has no business starting at quarterback in the nfl and managed to string together some miraculous nail-biters, taking advantage of the fact that football, contrary to our other major sports in the US, is the ultimate TEAM game.

Lin is a stud who slipped through the cracks.

bottom line is one guy can play his position, the other can't.

i apologize to the op for the interruption. carry on...
