[quote="The Beatles as the greatest ROCK bands ever.."
Now that's funny.... Pop not Rock. Agree with rest of bands
Dont mean to derail OP's thread.
I do mean to derail the thread. The Beatles are absolutely a rock band. There's no 2 ways about it. The reason alot of people say they're not is b/c of how much they revolutionized it.[/quote]
They did change the course of music, but to say they are a "rock" band- No Way
I guess everyone has their own opinion.
Foos are great and last nights performace of rope and walk were awesome. Lots of energy- must be awesome live.

for the record, ive heard all foo albums and ive seen them live. i dont dislike their music that much. i feel like its loud pop and they have some great songs. However, their albums dont have much flow and id label them as a cooler nickelback. its mainly grohl that i am taking to task here. ive heard him interviewed, etc, etc.
id be a fool to question his musical talent. my FAVORITE PJ version of RITFW (95 i believe?) is from australia when hes on drums. I just think the guys a dork, a hypocrite, cheezy, and fake. most of those attributes were on display last night. its so funny that i cant have an opinion on here. i now know what the PJ dissenters feel like. i still havent heard anyone defend how grohl has repeatedly ripped on manufactured music (i havent even heard PJ bother w this topic) yet he performed w a friggin mouse DJ last night. i think i have a leg to stand on here. my kurt comment was strong and im sorry if i offended anyone. my point was a simple one in that id rather be someone who was true to what they believed than a fake. i think dave would be a great politician. lets put it that way. how hard is that to understand?
we got it. od-ing on heroin in front of your 1 year old is real, and being in a famous rock band is fake.
Foo Fighters are an excellent band. Dave Grohl is the epitome of a rock star. I'm not going to knock other bands to make my point, but look at the respect he has from his peers and that should tell all you arm chair musicians how great he is.
Nope, they don't write dark lyrics such as Pink Floyd or politically profound and angry lyrics such as Rage Against the Machine... but they write ear pleasing , loud and proud rhythyms that give me great pleasure when I feel like rocking it.
Excellent band. Excellent. End of story. Nice try though.

You're wrong. What they were playing early in their career...that's what was considered rock. Dunno how anybody could listen to Revolver-Let It Be and say the Beatles are anything but a rock band. There's a few transitional albums in the middle where i could see it getting a bit murky, but throughout the bands career the music they were playing was deeply rooted in early rock and roll.
The first line from their wiki entry...."The Beatles were an English rock band"
It's like saying the Rolling Stones aren't a rock band.
That statement, even as a joke or to make a point, should never be uttered.
Music is obviously subjective but there are some things that just can't be argued.
Well the Rolling Stones sounded exactly like The Beatles when the Beatles were together so that's my point. Saying one isn't a Rock and roll Band is saying the other isn't.
And saying either of them aren't rock and roll bands is just lunacy.
I hate when people say The Beatles aren't a rock band.
Agreed. That's baffling. CRAZZZY.

I thought they were a blues band.

There wouldn't be Rock and Roll without the Blues. Just ask, Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Led Zeppelin.

They should change their name to Dave and the House Band
i watched their documentary last week....it really was Dave and a hired band. the first album was 100% him....then they were doing anouther album...and dave was playing everything. i don't view them as a band that works together like PJ...i see them as Dave and a his hired band.

imo of course.
That's laughable since PJ has had 5 drummers and at times have almost broke up as well.
At least know what you are talking about. The band that is currently constructed has been together for 13 years. How is that a house band. They have actually been a complete and unchanged band just as long as PJ has.

actually, Pat has only been in the band since 2006...unless you want to count his start date as 1995
don't focus on the house band comment...focus on the fact that dave dominates everything in the band....at least that is how it was portrayed in the movie.

Hate to break it to you, Ed dominates everything in this band also. And Pat has been a member for 10 of the 17 years, including the last 6 years. He has always been a part of the band, it was just when he felt like playing he would come in.
Hate to break it to you, Ed dominates everything in this band also.
i would agree, Ed is big part of what the band does...but IMO, with PJ, the other members contribute alot more to the music than what Dave's house band does.

You have no idea what you are talking about. I'm done with this conversation. First it was a house band until you found out they have all been together longer than you expected(and longer than the current PJ), now it's Dave controls everything(which almost all vocalists of there ilk do) and then when you realize that you change up again.

i don't see Ed kicking Matt off the drums so he can lay down the track...or kicking Boom off the keys, or jeff off the bass or mike/stone off the guitars
from what i saw....dave wanted to control everything,...play all the tracks for the records...and then have the band play the instruments during the tour....that's what the movie make it look like...
they don't speak to me like PJ does but I can appreciate that they do to others
they seemed so happy last evening and full of personality, that was nice to watch
Pandora, IMO, FF give the next best live show to PJ. You mentioned that they were full of personality, they bring that A game to each performance and they are amazing. I just thought it was neat how you pointed that out in your post and I wanted to emphasize it. They are just the same each night on stage as they were at the show last night.

One of my favorite beatle albums is one that is called "Rock and Roll Music"
