Foo Fighters are a joke

Like Pandora said, they don't speak to me like PJ do, but I do enjoy their music. I saw them in Philly recently, and they put on a hell of a show. I enjoyed seeing them on the Grammys last night too. I only saw them perform "Walk", as i didn't get a chance to watch the entire broadcast. Does anyone have a link to the other song that they did?

Im not a huge fan of the Foos but would they still be around now if they hadnt something.

Not a fan of "Wasting Light" at all. I also have to say that Grohl does make himself look silly sometimes with the stuff he does on stage.

Their new stuff just seems way too "user friendly crafted".

I think the Foos blow PJ out of the water with their latest record. They are also very high energy and it's a lot of fun to see them live. However, Pearl Jam has the emotional connection that keeps them afloat while their last couple of records were subpar. I still give PJ the edge, but it's getting much closer for me.

You mean that one that's half Dave being a douche and kicking people out of HIS band and half a commercial for Wasting Light? I think Grohl SEEMS like a pretty funny and cool guy alot of the time, but I think it clouds some peoples' judgment on how good the actual music is. Check out the Wasting Light thread and a good portion of the posts are talking about how funny some appearance by Dave was. To me all they've ever been is a singles band, much closer to Nickelback than the bands that Dave proclaims to idolize.

It definitely seems poser-ish to preach out against electronic and rap music and then come Grammy time perform with the genres' biggest acts. On that same note I know DG loves some metal, but did anybody else think the Slayer t seemed a little forced?

And honestly, with Macca up there nobody even cared about the the Boss or Joe Walsh, so why would they give a shit about Grohl.

Look at this with a little objectivity and you'll see how ridiculous this statement is. PJ will always be among my favorite bands, but those band you mentioned along with Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath accomplished more with their influence alone than PJ ever could.

I personally love the Foos, Dave Grohl is awesome to watch live. His schtick is very entertaining between songs, he plays the shit out of his guitar, and Taylor Hawkins on that kit is a sight to behold.

I didn't watch the grammy's last night, but others in this thread are right... if the band is up there playing with a DJ who's re-hashed and playing a recording on stage, that makes him a bit of a hypocrite in terms of the idealisms he's been preaching on this most recent tour... that being said, I do also enjoy deadmau5, so I'll have to go check out a video of it later.

Look, I get it, everyone here loves Pearl Jam to the core, number 1 favorite band... but the truth of the matter is, Foo Fighters are comparable. They make great rock music, they actually tour across the US and the globe, and they wave the "real music" banner high and proud, instead of happily hiding in the shadows of the modern music scene. Every band is different, but that doesn't make them "shit".

Slap Wasting light and Backspacer in the player and tell me which one you like more.

Or go back and put on In Your Honor and Lost Dogs and do another comparison.

It's not that I dislike any of those PJ albums, just flat up, the Foo Fighters have made some fantastic music in the last decade... bottom line.

You might be right with your first one but that still doesn't make Wasting Light a great album.


I think part 2 highlights why the FF's aren't that great. PJ completely slay them with a throwaways album. Sure there's some tunes on Lost Dogs that aren't all that great, but I'll take the adventurousness of a band trying some of that stuff over the bland stylings of In Your Honor.

I do mean to derail the thread. The Beatles are absolutely a rock band. There's no 2 ways about it. The reason alot of people say they're not is b/c of how much they revolutionized it.

I like the Foos, not love...... Went to the Newark show last year, very good

But u have a point, Dave's actions and words didn't work so well last night

But the Foos are goof balls , and I've never really taken them as seriously as PJ

I stand by my statement that the analogy in the OP is offensive, but I think EVERYONE is entitled to musical taste and opinion. While I don't LOVE the Foo Fighters lyrics/songs, I think they are incredibly talented musicians. Take words out of it, I actually enjoy just listening to them rock out. I do enjoy a handful of songs, but even on the ones I don't like, I think they sound very tight.

I understand what they did can be seen as hypocritical, but I also see, as someone else mentioned, that they are trying to fight the good fight. That rock is not dead and can rival all this other shit that is out there. It's what he basically said in his speech. Their extra performance with Deadmaus, while maybe not in best judgment, was to help get across his message. At least that's what I got from it.

I think the Grammy AWARDS are ridiculous, but as a lover of all different types of music, I enjoy the performances (I should say some ). I didn't think that Grohl was mocking Sir Paul. He seemed completely into it, and moved quickly out of the way once he put his head down to realize what he was doing. Just my observation.

The only thing that rubbed me the wrong way with Grohl is that I watched an interview where he talked about writing songs. And he talked about how he writes a lot of songs that are geared towards mass audiences and what people will find catchy. He walked through the process and made a comment that the radio hits were the ones that pay his bills and keeps his lights on. I think they are incredibly talented, but when he said that, it made sense as to why so much of their songs that are released sound so poppy and are hard to connect to (for me @ least). Which is surprising considering their backgrounds and "views on music". Their entire catalogue is obviously not like that, but there is a point to make songs that will appeal to "popular culture". He was not joking either when he was discussing how he wrote their hits.

Either way, talented musicians.

for the record, ive heard all foo albums and ive seen them live. i dont dislike their music that much. i feel like its loud pop and they have some great songs. However, their albums dont have much flow and id label them as a cooler nickelback. its mainly grohl that i am taking to task here. ive heard him interviewed, etc, etc.

id be a fool to question his musical talent. my FAVORITE PJ version of RITFW (95 i believe?) is from australia when hes on drums. I just think the guys a dork, a hypocrite, cheezy, and fake. most of those attributes were on display last night. its so funny that i cant have an opinion on here. i now know what the PJ dissenters feel like. i still havent heard anyone defend how grohl has repeatedly ripped on manufactured music (i havent even heard PJ bother w this topic) yet he performed w a friggin mouse DJ last night. i think i have a leg to stand on here. my kurt comment was strong and im sorry if i offended anyone. my point was a simple one in that id rather be someone who was true to what they believed than a fake. i think dave would be a great politician. lets put it that way. how hard is that to understand?
