They performed earlier in the show. Deadmau5 made a remix of "Rope" and the band loved it. I thought that was a pretty good performance.

I didn't watch any of the Grammys, but your second sentence shows you are clearly taking it too seriously - not to mention it makes you look like a jackass.

This thread is already ridiculous. Who makes a statement like the last one in the OP's post? So fucked up.

Foo Fighters are not a joke, they are an amazing band.

Seeing Dave play with Paul Mc Cartney, Bruce Springsteen, and Joe Walsh was sick.

Deadmau5 isn't my cup of tea, but it's cool Foo fighters let them cover it, and shared the stage with them when they did.

I watched the grammys and im saying dave grohl is a tool. I think i can have an opinion. If i offended you w how i expressed myself then so be it. I honestly feel that way. From his mimicking of mc cartney to his phony speech to his awful performances. I dont even hate foo but they need to chill out in my OPINION. And i would rather be a dead real person than a fake living one. Makes sense to me. I went to bridge school and felt same way with his cheezy, contrived presentation. Just not my bag.

Your analogy is stupid and makes you look ridiculous - it's not that you thought Dave Grohl's appearance/speech/collaborations were bad. How "real" do you think people are at a show like the Grammys....it's an awards SHOW...for entertainment...most of it is scripted.

Try something like: Man, what were the Foo Fighters thinking? I thought their performance was lame a cheesy - my respect for PJ has now gone through the roof!

You are most certainly entitled to your opinion, but statements like this are just unnecessary when all of us are here for the love of music.
  • I don't personally understand how Dave can go on and on about rock not being represented at awards shows anymore, and then performing with a dance dj.

    seems a bit hypocritical.

    EXACTLY!

Even worse is at the Sydney concert he went on a massive rant about electronic music and how much he despised it and how everyone in the audience should too...

Listen i dont want to pis off fellow pj fans. Grohl has agitated me for a long time so i went a little cuckoo tonight. Is that okay? If you guys dont see something a bit contrived out of him then maybe it is me being hypercritical. I cant help to point to bridge school show when he struck me as something very inauthentic. Im a huge pj guy and maybe im guilty of holding him to a higher standard than i should. I should have posted that i thought dave was really over the top tonight instead of calling them a joke. I dont want to pis anyone off.

  • Dave is one of the last great true rock stars and I am taking it all in while we still have him. That documentary they did for the making of Wasting Light shows you how much they just love making music. One of the absolute best bands to see live as they just tear it up and you can tell care about the audience unlike most bands out there.

I think many people that really love and follow PJ get wrapped up thinking that it's lame or cheesy doing any appearances like the Grammy's that caters to a wide, general audience. Personally I think the Grammy's are a joke but that's just me and if Eddie was out there jamming with Bruce and some other old heads people would be going crazy over it saying how he is the man.

Not trying to rip the OP, just offering my opinion on them as jokes and playing some devil's advocate. :D

  • I've never got them, never been particularly into their music and hence never had a lot of respect for him (grohl) as a musician... this is forgetting about whether he's a hypocrite or a sell out or whatever and talking purely about the music. Never had much time for him as a person either but try not to be too hard on people I've never met and know very little about. I think as I get older (NOT 36 or anywhere near 36 though yet, thankyou very much!) I'm far less judgemental about what sort of crappy music other people like too
I don't mean to offend anyone, a lot of what I say should be taken with a grain of salt... that said for most of you I'm a stranger on a computer on the other side of the world, don't give me that sort of power!

  • I have to strongly disagree. FF are one of the last real bands that still get radio play. If it wasn't for the FF, this younger generation would all be listening to Gaga (and other crap like that), they would not know how real music/talent sounds.
    Hearts and thoughts they fade....
    fade away...

I am at peace with my lust.....for Eddie.

The Foo Fighters are not a rock band they are a pop act that sings loud. Soccer moms have to listen to something too! More power to them! You can't expect another band to be in Pearl Jam's league. It's just not gonna happen. Bands with Pearl Jam's artistic talent and musical integrity are very very rare. If you look back at the history of music you will find Pearl Jam right beside The Stones, Zeppelin, The Who and The Beatles as the greatest ROCK bands ever. That is where your problem with the foo fighters is arising from, you are comparing them to Pearl Jam. Don't do something like that OP, it's embarrassing.

wasting light is 100 times better than backspacer
  • his first two records mayb 3 Dave played everything he is the hardest working musician behind Matt
if he gets on ur nerves great everybody gets on everybody's nerves at times, thats life
but I want to c all the people that say he is no musician to go out and make a album as good as the color and the shape.
    Good luck
Go check out skin and bones that might change your mind
if not again ur titled to your own but as a fan of the music and its power u have to give the man
    credit!
jerry cantrell said "no drummer should be able to play guitar that well"
    i agree
don't judge anyway its bad for the brain
wasting light is not one of my favorites i might add I thought the 2 b4 were better by a long shot but
it is still a great album
    just my two cents
    until next time......

For my part at least I said I don't like his music, not that he was talentless - surely you can see what the difference is, and you're welcome to love the colour and the shape but you must be able to see that no matter how much people like music the same things are not to everyones taste
I don't mean to offend anyone, a lot of what I say should be taken with a grain of salt... that said for most of you I'm a stranger on a computer on the other side of the world, don't give me that sort of power!
  • I can see not liking them but some of the comments (the dead Kurt post in the OP specifically) are IMO just blatantly immature

Foo Fighters are on OUR team - the team that waves the flag for genuine human made rock n' roll. Like their music or not, they are not the band we should be bitching about "integrity" because they are fighting the good fight

I save my music arguments for performers (note: performers, not artists) like Niki Minaj and people like her.
  • I feel like Foo Fighters is the type of band I should like more than I actually do. They seem like a band I'd enjoy on paper, but it doesn't do it for me the way that Pearl Jam does. It's unfortunate that Pearl Jam gets a fraction of the radio time that Foo Fighters do.

That being said, from a purely observational point of view, it does seem hypocritical to be touting being a rock band that plays instruments, and then doing a collaboration with a dubstep DJ.
