This is turning into one of the most boring Super Bowls I've ever watched.

I disagree; that ball was very catchable. And it did look like a hold. Kaepernick could've and should've just run it in.
I kind of didn't want the Niners to win anyway. Kaepernick has only started 10 games. No one should win a SuperBowl with so little experience.
Could be. I actually didn't notice the path of the ball until the very last replay I saw. Like most people I had been looking at the contact between the two (they both looked guilty to me), and on the last replay I saw I though it looked well out of bounds, maybe not completely uncatchable, but it would have taken a hell of a catch to get it, but that could have just been the angle.
Between what both players were doing, and the fact that most of the game they had been letting them play and not calling a lot of stuff like that, I thought it was a pretty good no-call.
"See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"
If you winning comes down to good refereeing then I wish everyone good luck ... but as SatansFuton said they were not calling a lot of that stuff ... overall the refereeing is what I expect ... average. The only reason this game was close was because of the power outage, Baltimore lost all the momentum and were flat through the rest of the 3rd quarter, they did get it together in the 4th and salvaged what was looking like a disaster of a collapse, good for Baltimore, they showed some good character in the end.

Personally I didn't buy into the light thing. I mean, it could have had some affect, but they're professionals and shouldn't come out playing like shit (and they did) just because of a game delay.

Actually you're right. I just saw a couple more replays and I don't think it was catchable. Probably a good no-call too because even if he was held, he had no chance at the ball.

The evidence of them losing momentum after the power outage was clear, I doubt they went from great in the first half to looking like a deer caught in headlights in the 3rd quarter ... whatever the reason that 1/2 delay plus half time really didn't help Flacco ... and by the 4th quarter the ravens seemed fine on offence ... they seemed a little tired on defence ... either way they got the job done.
I agree with you they are professionals but football is a game in which emotion and momentum play big parts and SF somehow seized momentum from that power outage. I think they just were in too big a hole at that point.
But that was fine it made for a good Super Bowl in the end.

I didn't think they were playing all that great myself. They had some big plays (like the kick return), and some SF turnovers, but they weren't impressing me too much.
I can see if Baltimore came out just stale, but they came out sucking. San Fran had to sit there just like Baltimore.
As a Cowboy fan, you saw plenty of big comebacks this season (some of which came up a little short, like SF) and the lights didn't go out in any of those games. I think Baltimore just got too comfortable with their lead.
Like I said, I'm sure it had some effect. But just like you said that if SF needed good refereeing to win, then good luck, if Baltimore couldn't take care of business because of a power outage... same thing.
I understand what you're saying about everything, and I'm not completely disagreeing with you, but some of the stuff Baltimore did was just stupid. The lights didn't make them run into the kicker on what would have been a missed FG for example. I'm just saying SF deserves a little credit for mounting the comeback. Nothing like that can happen and NOT affect the game, we could get into butterfly effect and all that, but just like I don't blame the refs for "giving" Baltimore the game on that one call, I wouldn't have blamed the lights if SF won.
Besides, right after the lights came back on SF had the ball and failed to convert on third down and punted. It's not like they came right out and scored on the first play.
It was just such a weird situation.
"See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"
There was pass interference going on all night long by both sides, and the refs were letting them play.
Plus, it looked to me like they were interfering with each other, if they called a penalty on Baltimore they should have called one on SF too.
Plus, the ball didn't even look catchable.
I hate to see Ray win a ring as much as anybody, but I see no foul play here. Let's take our lumps here and not blame the refs.
i agree. looked like a hold and a push off, with a ball that may or may not have been catchable. but it was consistent with how they called the rest of the game...which i enjoyed. the ref's let them play. you don't want a championship coming down to a call like that. some thoughts:
i really enjoyed the game. part of that has to do with me having the ravens in multiple bets, but it was entertaining from start to finish.
people, i assume, will now have to stop ripping on flacco. marvelous game by joe. on point all night. his audible on 3rd and 1 with about 6 minutes left--where he hit boldin on the shoulder, was as good a play as you will see any quarterback make.
happy to see john harbough win. great coach/underrated no longer. he was with the eagles so long--it's nice to see him get over the hump. i thought he made a huge mistake on the fake fg, though. you can't leave points on the table. showed the confidence he had in his defense at the time though. still--9 yards is a long way to go.
the balanced attack by both teams brought a smile to this guy's face.
ray lewis can go to hell. i'm glad he's done. i tried to avoid his nonsense these few weeks and just focus on the game.
power outage definitely helped the niners. sure they didn't convert a 3rd and 13 on the first play after it, but i think the ravens went 3 and out and then the niners started scoring for the rest of the quarter. it definitely felt like it sapped the ravens momentum.
the ravens are worthy of a championship. they beat the league's 2 best teams in a row for the title.
....and the nfl remains this country's greatest reality show. there was more drama packed into the super dome last night than all the shows on all the channels in the world. good times, indeed.

Well I don't know what your definition of dominating is ... but with only a 1 1/2 quarters to play and 28-6 lead ... the ravins were dominate where it matter most, but I believe they were pretty dominate in most areas of the game. Whether the power outage changed momentum or SF halftime adjustments changed momentum we'll never know. But the Ravins offence came out of their 3rd quarter funk in the 4th quarter to score enough points to get the win.

that kelly chick from that band they were all in is hotter than beyonce.
Which one of those chicks was married to Roy "Horsecollar tackle" Williams?
All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.
For a moment, I thought last night's Superbowl was going to be one of the worst Superbowl I've watched in a long time. But after the power outage, it really became exciting. I was really hoping San Francisco would win, but in the end, the Ravens won and they deserved it. Superbowl halftime show was meh! I don't know who will perform next year at Metlife Stadium, but it wouldn't surprise me if Bon Jovi perform, seeing they are from New Jersey. Only time will tell, but I hope it will be a rock band.
Good no-call on that final 4th down. It would have been a total bail-out call. SF was a trainwreck on those final four plays. The final two in particular:
-Play clock runs down, waste a timeout.
-Use that timeout to call a shitty 3rd down play where the ball wasn't thrown into the endzone.
-Again, they're somehow up against the playclock, but instead of wasting a timeout, they rush a horrible play.
-Kaepernick throws it up, hopes, might have got a holding call with another side judge, didn't get it here. Oh well.
Also, HORRIBLE call on the 2pt try. That's not 1998 Randy Moss over there where you can just press the X button and he catches it. Shoulda been a pistol option look.
They were certainly dominating the scoreboard, but they didn't really look dominating, to me at least. They didn't look bad, but one TD was a kick return, and SF practically gave up some other points. Like fumbling the ball on their own 25 yard line setting up a Baltimore touchdown. Then right after that Kaepernick threw an INT, which because of the fake FG didn't translate into automatic points, but it led to them getting good field position (credit to Baltimore for one pretty decent D stand) which they were able to turn into a touchdown. I'd say they were playing OK, and things were going their way (like that incredible sideline catch that was more like desperation that paid off, and could have easily been an INT), but they didn't look to be dominating San Fran. But I think the score was more about SF playing terrible and Baltimore playing OK than it being about Baltimore playing outstanding.
Their offense was doing alright but they weren't automatic, and I felt they were getting pretty lucky or benefiting from SF's mistakes. I think they had 1 actual long drive that resulted in a touchdown, the rest of the time they had good field position (around mid-field). But with SF's explosive offense I had complete faith they could come back, like they did against Atlanta after being down 17-0. It's games like that, and when they beat Green Bay in spite of coming out stale and throwing a pick 6 out of the gates then recovering, that make me view it as a pattern for SF. If you take out the power thing and call it a comeback, it fits in with their other post-season games. The Green Bay game wasn't a big comeback, just coming out looking bad on a smaller scale, before they just started dominating.
I'm sure it had some effect, it probably robbed some momentum but shouldn't have made them suck. But I think the commentators ran the whole thing into the ground because it made for a good controversial story, plus since they had nothing else to talk about during the blackout they had said this could benefit SF. So when they did better after the blackout, they of course said that was the reason because it made them look correct. Which they love. They were going to stick with that narrative regardless, when you think about it, SF couldn't have come out looking any worse than they did prior to that, having only scored a couple of field goals. If they managed to score just one touchdown they were going to point to the improvement after the blackout.
"See a broad to get dat booty yak 'em, leg 'er down, a smack 'em yak 'em!"
Warren Sapp really? He's a first ballot hall of famer. Not saying he wasn't a great player but first ballot seriously.
Is it me or is the Pro Football HOF kind of becoming a joke. It seems super bowl rings are more important than the impact a player had over their career. Irvin getting in before Brown, Carter and Reed was and is a sick joke.
???
a) Warren Sapp = 2nd most sacks out of the DT position in NFL history...7 Pro Bowls...Super Bowl Champion...NFL Defensive Player of The Year...intimidating & disruptive despite being double teamed most of the time...oh yeah, part of the Tampa 2 D that most teams tried to copy for a decade straight...more importantly, helped make TB a contender after a history of awfulness. I'm not shocked at all he's a 1st ballot HOF'r. Doesn't mean I'm a fan or liked him. But he does belong...Plain and simple.
b) Michael Irvin simply is a better wide receiver than Andre Reed & Tim Brown. The other 'triplets" got in 1st ballot, he had too. Like Sapp, disagree with his personality or off the field shenanigans, but no doubt he was great and a game changer.
c) Maybe Tim brown and Andre Reed get in. To me, they are first ballot Hall of Very Good. Talk football with knowledgeable long time fans of the game, I'm not sure Andre Reed or Tim Brown are brought up in the top 10 receivers of all time. I know you are a Bills fan, Durp, and Andre Reed was a special and great player...HOF'r? Not sure.
d) You HAVE to put Cris Carter in the HOF. One of the greatest to ever play. Ever. And yes, ahead of Reed & Brown, for sure. Brown was so consistently good, I personally hope he gets in one day. Could be a while. Marvin Harrison and Randy Moss = 1st ballot HOF'rs.
e) The process for HOF is somewhat of a joke. I will say, this year, I feel like they got it right however. Strahan will get in, not a first ballot guy though. To me 1st ballot = can you discuss the game - and its history - and be mentioned in the conversation out of the gate when it comes to the position? Sadly as Fins fan, seeing Strahan not make it on 1st ballot, makes me wonder if Jason Taylor will get in ever...
Randy Moss is not a first ballot HOF'er. The writers won't forget how he pouted and bitched and moaned and took plays off. Is he a great reciever hell yes but his attitude at times has sucked majorly on the field. He pouted in Oakland because he was on a bad team.
Harrison yes he should get in. Carter was long over due to get in. Saying Reed and Brown are not HOF'rs is a bit drastic. Both played at an elite level for a long time. Reed consistantly went over the middle and got knocked around and got back up and did it again. If 951 Rec 13,198 Rec Yds and 87 TD's is not great than I don't know what is.
I often wonder if Irvin didn't win a SB would he have got in before Carter? The voting process is turning into a popularity contest. Irvin was a great player but just because Aikman and Smith got in on their first try doesn't mean he should have. By your logic Reed should have got in already because Kelly, Thomas and Levy are in there along with B.Smith and Ralph Wilson.
Why isn't Steve Tasker considered. He changed the way people look at special team players. Since him guys have made careers at being a special team player. He changed the game and be honest every team had to account for him on special teams or he would make you pay. Isn't that what the HOF is about not only great players and coaches but those who changed the game for the good?
Am I biased as a Bills fan yes I am. Not even going to hide it one bit. But Reed will get his spot one day just going to be later rather than sooner.
