Time to put the C. F. Martin cap aside for awhile.

CjTrash - this was right after the Lions overcame his cheap shot hit on Deebo and scored their final touchdown of the game.

Jerry Rice had two records fall today.  Most postseason receptions and total TDs in regular/postseason for a 49er.
Is most cases of Stick'um used in the post season the only playoff record he has left?

but that shit happens. dan campbell made conscious bonehead decisions. next gen stat analytics brought to you by amazon  may say “go” but you gotta have a feel for the game and look at the score. I didn’t major in math, but I think 100% of 2 x 3 > 0% of 2 x 7.

the chiefs did the same thing (once) but survived it. their one score game wouldn’t have been so close, had they taken a FG.

The "go" decision is based on all teams, all data,  all games, etc. If Campbell was able to run the play 72 times he could probably achieve the result he wanted with a confidence level that drove the "go" decision,  but you only get one shot.  And they lost that shot twice when it mattered.

  • I don't think Campbell used data.  He used "me got big balls.  Me go for 4th down.  Me inspire team" gut feel.
He blew that game for his team. They obviously made some bad plays and Niners got some incredibly fortunate plays.

the announcers made a good point after the second turnover on downs. "this is what got them here, this type of decision making, so criticize all you want, but they wouldn't be here if he didn't take those chances". in quotes but obviously paraphrasing.

if they make it; brilliantly executed coaching.

I'm still on team FG on this one. what an epic collapse.

It wasn't just missing the 6 points - getting stopped on 4th down was a spark for the home team, got the players and the fans (70% of the crowd I guess) back into it. And it set the Lions off into at least 30 minutes of choking panic. On the other hand, kick the FG, take a 17 point lead (3 scores!) and play some damn defense. ARRRGH this Super Bowl sucks.

Maybe... but presumably some of that success was against lesser teams, at home, different points in the game, etc.  And definitely not against an offense with three superstars at the key skill positions.

But I'm a risk manager by trade and I protect against the downside.  I would have kicked that FG to make it three scores and again to tie the game and reset it.  I think those were just terrible decisions.

I feel like San Francisco was just a snowball rolling downhill in the 2nd half, and no matter what Detroit did, they were going to match/exceed.

The game wasnt going to come down to field goals.  Needed touchdowns in the gunfight.

If Campbell kicks field goals and Detroit gets outscored, he takes shit for kicking field goals today

I don't know... turning the ball over on downs is a huge momentum boost, totally different than kicking a FG.  Everything still felt like Detroit could move the ball, they just failed to execute late.  Maybe the moment got too big for a young team, not sure.  But it didn't feel like to me that Detroit was on the ropes.  That didn't happen until they gave up that late TD.  I just think "three scores" is a big difference in how a game plays out.

I didn't mind the 1st time going for it but you 100% have to kick the field goal to tie the game in the 4th quarter.  The game was basically over once the Whiners scored after that.

I also hate the fact that the NFL has made getting an on sides kick almost impossible to recover.

think Taylor is on tour, oh the humanity 🤣

I don't know if you follow Alan Cross, but his newsletter explained what it would take for her to make it to Vegas.
"If Taylor hops on her private jet by midnight Tokyo time (7am Saturday Las Vegas time), she’ll need to make a beeline for Vegas, which is a 13 hour-ish flight, depending on condition. That would have her in Vegas at 1pm Sunday Tokyo time/8 am Vegas time. The Super Bowl will start at 3:30 pm Vegas time on Sunday and 8:30 am TUESDAY in Tokyo.

Assuming her jet lands on time, she can be whisked from the airport to any of the whale hotel suites in half an hour. There’s still time for a nap and some freshening up before the game."

I bought NFL+ a month ago, so I can get Chiefs Radio.  Throughout the playoffs I've turned down the TV and married up the timing on the streaming of the TV with the radio.  Such a better experience.

I’ve always enjoyed the radio announcers over television for all the major sports. Always seemed more knowledgeable about the game and their “color” was better because their audience didn’t have a picture. Except for the stretch where the Sox had an announcer who would start almost every hit with, “way back, way back, waaaaaay back, and it’s caught at the warning track.” And their voices seemed timeless like they’d been up in the booth for decades, chomping cigars, disheveled old school sports junkies.

I think fans should be able to vote on announcers and see them removed from a game.  Some of these people (looking at you Greg Olsen) can ruin the viewing experience with their dumb takes and incessant blather.
    I actually like Olsen...
Omfg, he never stops talking.  No bare air around that guy.  He also tries to predict things or explain things, only to have events play out (while he is rambling) to disprove his ideas.
    One of the absolute worst.
sooo i get what youre saying.  I listened to him last night and I get it, lol.

    I still like him...

    My take this Sunday.

Happy the 2 teams I wanted are in.

Chiefs Ravens was a good game but not high scoring.  Great defenses.
    Mahomes and Kelce click.
You can see why they are going again.  Bills, this is your Jordan/Bulls wall you need to get past.

49ers/Lions was two games in one.  The first half was the Lions show.  The 2nd half was the 9ers show.

Dude flexes and spins the ball over opponents head gets 15 yds.  To make it even worse, ball gtes punched out by dude u wee flexing over at 1 yd line for a fumble...

I will be enjoying the superbowl!!!
