baseball and soccer are continuous action. not as much reason to flip channels
I guess it depends on what you consider "continuous action". In baseball you probably spend more time watching a batter knocking dirt off his cleats, adjusting their batting gloves, or a pitcher constantly trying (usually a futile attempt) to pick off the runner at first base, than actual action. I think you probably just have more tolerance to downtime in baseball than football. I find the downtime in football OK (not so much the commercials, just time between plays) to be pretty exciting. It's a game of move/counter move, setting up and audible, the play doesn't start when the ball is snapped.
As for soccer, seems like every game I watch a team takes forever to get the ball deep in the other teams zone, and it gets exciting for a few minutes, then they just boot it out 40 yards the other direction. But people find the rest of the game exciting, and I'm clearly not a fan.

I dont' agree, but fair points. since the NFL implpemented instant replay I just think the product has taken a turn for the worse. this culminated last year when the lions were robbed on that TD pass to calvin johnson vs the bears. what's a catch anymore? what's a penalty? drives me insane while the refs talk about a play for 5 minutes becaues they don't know either.
I'm not a big soccer fan either. I liked watching the world cup though. no stoppages, quick games, no commercials. it was kinda nice to watch.
I love everything about baseball (which is much more mental than football), so I'm probably a bit irrational there. like you said, I def have more tolerance for mlb downtime than I do for that in the NFL.
as much as I rip the NFL I am glad it's back. sports are awesome
Agreed. The NFL Ticket is incredible...can't imagine football without it. I need to watch the entire game!
waste of money unless you have mulitple boxes and tvs
they advertise it as free for direct tv...don't know if there is a hook.
As noted it is free for new subscribers ... but the hook is that it automatically renews each year so a high percentage of subscribers that would never get Sunday Ticket are going to be in for a surprise next August when they review their bill.
It's evil and genius at the same time. It sounds like a great deal. But it costs Direct TV nothing to provide the service to the marks this year and next year their eggs will hatch, $200 at a time.
Lets say only 20% of your base is willing to spend $200 each year for Sunday Ticket. But what if 80% of your subscribers are unaware of an automatic renewal. Cha-Ching!
I do have multiples boxes and TVs. Football is no joke in my house.
*Hello my name is mamasan23 and I'm addicted to football
Well in your case, the Ticket is absolutely worth it. I plan on a similar setup when the fiance and I buy a house out in the burbs...still 2-3 years until that happens.

The replays on all scoring plays are ridiculous. I think with football, it's about the way the game unfolds. You miss certain possessions and it can kinda be like watching a movie and missing out an important plot point.
I don't watch much soccer, but yeah the WC was nice to watch, but I felt like you could flip away from it, check back to see if one team was getting momentum, and flip away or stay.
Baseball, till playoff time to me is about the most flippable sport there is.

kicking off from the Black Hole....that sounds dirty...
yes they do. wonder how Philly will do against them next weekend
we get them on a short week...but reid's teams have always played poorly against good afc squads

except pittsburgh
I'd love to see his records vs afc teams actually
second and smoke buzz .... no doubt.
Chris Berman lost his fastball years ago ... listening to him reminds me of the last year or so of watching Pat Summerall do games, just embarrassing.

I actually think he would be a decent pbp guy if he just announced the game and stopped being such a tool.
